  1. Mussina and Cabrera get 2 starts this week, though they are at the bottom of the list of who I'd hope get 3 starts. A-Rod will play 8 games if he can stop getting sick. Both clubs get 7 starts. It should be pretty close.
  2. Team Buddiga has managed to grab the slim lead back, but Mussina gets pushed back to Tuesday. I have no replacement for him so the lineup stays as is.
  3. I watched the last 2 innings of that. It was beautiful. I am going to spend the last 3 weeks salvaging the baseball season pulling for the Marlins. If nothing else, maybe it'll open the old gaurd in baseball up to playing young players.
  4. I think the new continuous clock movement rule helps Tech because the run the ball more and will eat more clock. Can they beat ND ? Yes, because they are at home. Will they beat them ? Only if Reggie Ball steps up and plays to his potential. That means 1 turnover or less and > 70% completion rate. I think this game goes under. 24-20. Tech.
  5. Full Article CLASS! You don't hear a lot of players leaving bitter. Who wouldn't want to play in Wrigley in front of great fans... Dusty. Cubs fans are a bunch of bigots.
  6. Agreed, though Theriot brings something that neither of those guys do which is plate discipline. He walks, and he swings at strikes. That approach puts him ahead of about half the team and light years above what Neifi brought to the table.
  7. Who's going to get hurt next for the Red Sox? Schilling? Beckett? I mean, it can't get much worse now can it? Well, if they lose Schilling or Beckett, then they can be entered into the discussion with the Cubs of which team has been most injury-prone. It continues. Schilling was scratched this morning from his Monday start against the White Sox. He has a mild strain in his right side which apparently occured while warming up for his last start at Oakland.
  8. I care...about beating them!
  9. Just when things couldn't any worse for Boston - they did. Papelbon left the game in the 9th holding his throwing shoulder after a breaking ball to Overbay. They are supposed to get most of the guys back early next week (Tek, Nixon, Ortiz, Gonzalez, Pena, maybe Ramirez). 5.5 back with 28 to play is probably too much. If Papelbon is done, they are done.
  10. I thought Jones throw which cleared the backstop screen was a fitting end to the game and roadtrip on Wednesday. That was a thing of beauty and the second time he's accomplished it this season.
  11. I'd be all over anyone who's playing every day with a .226 OBP and a .398 OPS. According to some metrics, Neifi had the worst season in the history of baseball a few years back. Could he eclipse that performance with this season's .263 OBP and .576 OPS ?
  12. Boston is the 11th largest metropolitan area at 4.5 million. As for the rest of the season; it's a long Winter ahead, the Pats look mediocre this year, the Celtics stink, the Bruins play but no one will care when the Sox start back. People will show up the rest of the season and look forward to 6 months from now.
  13. It's a supply and demand issue. I am certain that the park will be full the rest of the season. Many middle class families haven't seen a ballgame because it's impossible to get tickets or the premium is out of their price range. This is an opportunity for people to get tickets at face value (which is still way overpriced). They singled out a few folks who spent a lot of money on tickets and are grumpy that the team is playing poorly and the key players are out of the lineup. Boohoo for them. Nobody is going to pay double face for tickets.
  14. Timlin's post AS break free-fall has killed the bullpen, especially given that their innings have increased with the loss of Wakefield, Clement, and Wells.
  15. Restovich seems like a guy who could end up in KC playing DH on a regular basis.
  16. Don't go telling Dusty that. He expects big things out of Z tonight. Big ballgame. We're still in it.
  17. Just saw this on ESPN.com. This is going to absolutely kill the Sox with Manny being hurt right now as well. Hopefully he gets better. They are going to need shutouts from Beckett and Schilling and basically hope everyone comes back. They have 16 of their final 26 at home. Four of the road games are at NYY, so, I wouldn't count Boston out until Labor Day.
  18. they teach clutch hitting well down in Georgia - and just what the heck is timely defense? Sounds like a couple of areas the Cubs definitely need to address in the off-season. Cesar Izturis might knock in a lot of runs with his glove, but I'm not sure he's "timely". they need more georgians - like jody davis . . . and corey patterson. How could you forget Marc Pisciotta ? Actually, the last time Georgia sent a team to the LLWS (East Marietta LL) they won it with Pisciotta on the mound.
  19. It's probably because they have Clemens in the rotation. That's a lot of respect right there. Although, Rich Hill was recently added to the rotation, so that might make the club more vulnerable with the rook in there. And Papelbon too, there's no respect there...
  20. He's back in the show. You'd think this was the second-coming: ...
  21. Dude, we're still in this. The mathematics say so.
  22. they teach clutch hitting well down in Georgia - and just what the heck is timely defense? No clue. When's the last time you saw intentional walks in LL ? Then again, when's the last time you heard of a 12 year old with 54 home runs ?
  23. I may be wrong on this, but I'm not sure how many in the media are Cub fans who actually cover the Cubs day in day out (save Bruce). You see it in Boston where Ryan, Edes, Gammons, Shaughnessey, and MacMullen are all locals and passionate about the Red Sox. They call it like it is. They say Boston is a tough town, but that's got a lot to do with all the writers being passionate locals who care about seeing their teams win. I don't see this much in Chicago outside of the Herald and haven't seen it in the Trib or Times since Greenstein was the Cub beat writer. Thus, unless you read the Herald, you don't have writers conveying the faults of this club on a daily basis. It's all sugar-coated and Baker continues to get a pass, hell, Rogers even made a recent case for bringing Baker back!
  24. The entire Cub organization should have been clued to the 20+ hrs of baseball the Red Sox and Yankees played last weekend. Thousands of pitches thrown, countless great AB's, and excellent approaches at the plate. Many against some of the top pitchers in the game today.
  25. Well, when you bid against yourself, this is possible. Hendry is developing quite the reputation for this. I'm sure those skills will be put to use this offseason. If I were Freddie Gonzalez, I might as for $7 million/yr to manage the Cubs because I might just get it...
