  2. Under new leadership, yes. For the rest of 2005 I think that's highly doubtful.
  3. Record in 1-run games: 20-7. Best in MLB.
  4. Hairston sure deserved it. I swear, he must be the dumbest player to come from a successful baseball family. That guy has made WAY too many dumb plays.... Moises Alou? Considering his '04 performance on the basepaths it's hard to disagree. But my point is: Hairston is stupid. Really stupid. So stupid I can see why he's not starting. Cuz he makes a lot of stupid plays. I expected him to be smarter, since he's from the baseball Hairstons. What did he do? I didn't get to see the game because WGN is stupid and doesn't show alot of games anymore-as well as the fact my wife gave me the "are you [expletive]" look when I mentioned spending 200 bucks on MLB EI's. Please fill me in? It was only $139 if you ordered before the season began. You should buy it for the second-half of the season as I think they offer it at a discount during the free preview after the A-S Break. If she still has a problem with it, well, buy it anyway.
  5. Will Al Hrabosky continue to call the Rockies a "second-division team" after last night's beat down ? He must've made that statement 10 times last night, regardless of the score.
  6. Four teams get the Thursday after the All-Star break as an off day. One of those teams is the Cardinals. Yep.
  7. What, can Tony and his babies not sleep on the flight back from SF ? There are plenty of men and women up on the corporate ladder that fly across country for a couple days and take red eyes back to make a big meeting the next day. It's life.
  8. Len Kasper is light years beyond Chip. Even though I tolerated Chip's play-by-play with the Cubs, I can't listen to him do Braves games. It is brutal. Orsillo and Remy are solid. I also think Jim Palmer does a good job on O's broadcasts. He always refers to offense in terms of OBP and such.
  9. Care to elaborate on this ? I think any manager in their right mind would walk ARam every time there was someone on base if you knew Holla or Barrett was behind him. I'd take my chances with facing Holla or Barrett rather than pitching to ARam. In fact, I'd probably walk ARam even if the bases are empty. Even though Barrett has been the second-most productive hitter on the Cubs with runners on or in scoring position ? I can't think of a better player (other than Lee) to protect Ramirez at this point.
  10. Care to elaborate on this ?
  11. There is no reason why Todd Walker shouldn't be hitting at the top of the lineup, regardless of whether it's Neifi or Hairston up there with him. For Baker to say he needs Walker as protection is an explanation that I don't buy given the strengths of the other players on this club. Yes, Walker is hitting .390/10 rbi w/RISP, but in a limited 22 ab. However, his ability to get on base at a .360 rate outweighs the "protection" arguement, especially when you consider Michael Barrett. I'm not sure how many people recognize it, but Barrett is having a wonderful season w/RISP. In 54 ab, Barrett is .370/1.112/29 rbi. Second-best (by far) of those on the Cubs with 50 ab. If anyone should be protecting Ramirez, it should be Michael Barrett. Additionally, Barrett's .274 OBP with no one on doesn't lend him to starting a rally at the top of the lineup. Of course, it's no coincidence that other than Lee; Hairston(.338), Walker(.333), and Perez(.333) are the best on the club in OBP w/ none on. And finally, Corey Patterson is the worst amongst all regulars with none-on base --- a .270 OBP. As Walkah so accurately stated; "you can't steal first base." Corey Patterson is the prime example of this. Baker continues to assemble a lineup beyond explaination and one that doesn't work for this club given its parts.
  12. Yes, but Hollandsworth for Grieve is a big step up when you consider that Grieve is probably the slowest player in baseball. Also, Hollandsworth is Baker's Gold Glove LF (at least in his eyes).
  13. If he answers no to that, I'd be freaked out. Me too, but sometimes it seems you don't get your questions answered unless you lay them a fastball right down the middle as a portion/all of the question...
  14. Always -- both know me by sight after all these years -- but I'll save them for for Sunday's wrap-up. I also have a question for Dubois, but I still haven't thought of a good one for Leicester. Maybe you could ask Leicester how/why he had better control of the strike zone as a Major League rookie as compared to his minor league and college career. And, does he feel like he can build of the success of last season and continue to come right after guys with confidence.
  15. In some ways, Dubois reminds me of Glenallen Hill. Both have similar power and more speed than most players of that size. A notable difference is that Dubois will draw a walk, whereas Hill never did. It's hard to project Dubois as winning any job next season, especially if there is any "proven" veteran on the club.
  16. Rumor has it that Jon Kontract Koncak finally ran out of $1 bills in recent months. He is pleased with the acquisition of Twon Walkah and looks forward to grabbing his choice seat at Phillips Arena whenever he can. !
