  1. Nothing is ever Dusty's fault. Haven't we learned this after 2+ seasons with this clown ? I can't stand Skip Bayless, but when Baker left San Fransisco Bayless noted that the folks back in Chicago and Cub Nation will learn that nothing is ever Dusty's fault. I gave Dusty the benefit of the doubt, but Bayless was right on.
  2. I hope Hendry sends a message by designating Remlinger and Macias, but that isn't very likely (I think Rem being DFA at least has a very small chance of happening). Out: Hairston Mitre Cedeno Remlinger In: Wood Patterson Garciappara Williamson There is absolutely no need for Remlinger in the bullpen.
  3. Well, if your #4 hitter was hitting .221 w/RISP, but had the 3rd most plate appearances in the league in those situations; you might get sick of being stranded on base.
  4. Hopefully Hendry DFA's him with the return of Williamson and Wood. Ohman and Rusch are more than enough from the left side, especially when your third lefty can't get lefties or righties out.
  5. Oh, you're not going to want to read this Dusty gem: "I put Walk sixth because I needed a bat behind Aramis Ramirez so they don't just pitch around him," Baker said. "I didn't want to put two lefties back-to-back." ...
  6. People sweat when the temperature is 93 and the dewpoint is 68 ? You learn something new every day.
  7. Here are a few comments from Hendry on how Lawton fits in to the lineup: “That’s up to Dusty, but I think by the nature of his performance and track record, including this year, he’s certainly a top-of-the-lineup guy, whether it’s 1 or 2,” Hendry said of Lawton. “He’s an on-base-percentage guy, but at the same time when that lineup rolls around to his turn, he knocks in his share of runs from that 1 spot.” And, from Baker: “I’ve got to talk to him and talk to Walk and Hairston and just see his preference and see what we need,” Baker said. I think we'll see Lawton/Walker 1/2 in the lineup against all RHP and Hairston hitting 7 or 8. Against LHP, Hairston will probably leadoff with Murton 7 or 8.
  8. Officially: Hairston Perez Lee Burnitz Walker Murton Macias Barrett Prior How on earth does Macias bat ahead of Barrett ?
  9. Neifi played a couple innings at 3rd on Wednesday. He could be back in at 3rd and put Cedeno at SS. The club is stronger both offensively and defensively if indeed Aramis is out today. Then again, Cedeno had a tough day yesterday so he needs five days on the bench watching the proven veterans.
  10. Murton reminds me a lot of Kevin Millar, but with above average footspeed. Millar was a 15-25 HR guy until this season with a lot of doubles. He walked enough to keep to keep the OBP in the .350-.370 range.
  11. The poster-child for this in 2005 is Manny Ramirez. He runs at less than half speed to first and has cost himself a few doubles this season because he never runs the ball out. The Sox announcers are good at pointing it out ("Manny was running at half-speed there"), but also wise enough to say nothing more.
  12. It's not just that, but consider how bad Hollandsworth has been in July: .220/.288/.678 in 58 ab On the other hand, Murton has been phenomenal: .462/.531/1.070 in 26 ab We are fortunate that the Cubs have faced an abnormally high number of LHP this month, or Murton would be rotting away. I would be shocked to see Matt Murton start today, despite the fact that Hollandsworth is 2-24.
  13. 11 pm start time on the East Coast ? I might be getting up to get ready for work if the game goes extra innings.
  14. Understandably, the Sox have fallen apart since Clement left. A couple hits and a grand slam. ...
  15. I hate to bring the bad news, if you haven't been watching the Red Sox game tonight. Matt Clement was just hit in the head by a line drive off Carl Crawford's bat. He hasn't moved in over 10 minutes and is being stabilized and is soon to leave the field in an ambulance.
  16. The Cubs face another lefty, Brad Halsey, on Thursday. Sadly, I find myself looking ahead in the schedule to see when the Cubs face a lefty so I can see Murton and maybe even Cedeno in the lineup.
  17. I've been wondering about this as well. One issue that I think could arise is Neifi getting time at 2nd base against LH pitching in place of Walker. I'm just going based on past history and the fact that if there's a right-handed option against a LH pitcher, Baker will use it. The only problem with that is: Walker vs. LH ('05) - .474 ( 18-38 ) BA, 1.381 OPS My hope is that Nomar gets back into full-time playing shape by Septemeber. Maybe you start him 4 games and Neifi 3 for the first couple weeks in August and go from there.
  18. Actually, against Carpenter it's not a bad idea to load up with the LH. I think he might be the best in the game against RH batters: .172/.212/.457 LH batters: .252/.314/.712 It'll be nice to have Murton/Cedeno off the bench late in the ballgame to face King, Flores, etc.
  19. Because Beltran is twice the player at half the age of Damon? You and your IU math. :)
  20. DJAXXFAN; the modern day Scoop Brady!
  21. Damon goes where Michelle Damon wants him to go. She's demands even more attention than Rockstar Johnny (she has her own show on NESN). I felt like he would end up with the Mets after this season, but that was before the Beltran acquisition. I think he will stay with Boston.
  22. They've also done it without Durazo, who's been out most of the way and will miss the rest of the season.
  23. Hopefully we see something like this take the field: Hairston Walker Lee Ramirez Murton Barrett Burnitz Cedeno
  24. At one point yesterday here in Eastern Mass, the temp hit 92 with a dewpoint of 80. I thought I was at the Equator.
  25. The Sox made a couple other moves this afternoon, designating Embree for assignment and re-acquiring Hyzdu from the Padres. This is after they acquired Kapler from the Japan and promptly put him on the DL. Not exactly sure what is going on here in Boston.
