  1. 29 points this week. Too bad they aren't putting a beating in the Championship Round. Nope, I'm not bitter!
  2. I also like a season in which GT is ranked #15. The early season hype for ND will be huge in 2006. Then, they will come to GT in Week 2 and the Gold Domers will be in tears.
  3. Is this a first ? The same lineup two nights in a row. I can't believe it.
  4. i agree with most of this, aside from the liking boston thing. they annoy me a lot. especially schilling. zip it. DIDN'T YOU SEE! HE PITCHED WITH A BLOODY SOCK! Oh god, that was beyond nauseating last season. I wanted him to just get a shellacking so I could laugh at him for being such a "warrior" and a general nuisance about the entire situation. Cub fans would have been lining up to have Mark Prior's babies if he pitched in the playoffs with a detached tendon in the ankle.
  5. Here is what Dusty said about Murton on July 9th, after Murton's second or third game in the Major League: ...
  6. Will Keith Foulke find himself on the trade market this Winter ? And, here is his contract status: - 04:$3M, 05:$7M, 06:$7.25M - 2007 option may vest (with 45 games each 04-06 or 95 games 05-06) - 2007 option may be a club option ($7.5M with $1.5M buyout) - 2007 option may be a player option ($3.75M, or $7.75M with 53 GF 2006) Sounds like one unhappy camper in Boston. I wonder what the Sox would be able to do with him ? He's been nothing short of terrible.
  7. That is possible, but Macias is still on the roster for Dusty to do as he pleases. Legitimate or not, my fear is that Greive may take AB's from Murton. This Cardinal series features Suppan, Morris, and Carpenter. I think all Cub fans who pay attention would like to see Murton face these guys over the weekend.
  8. Wind blowing out, lefty on the mound; I like Murton for a 3-5, hr, 2 rbi. gT
  9. He's here to learn from Macias.
  10. So you're telling me there's a chance ?
  11. Len, one other question. In memory of the great Arne Harris, the Cub broadcast production crew continues to provide folks with many shots of attractive women at Wrigley. Harry Caray always followed those up with, "it's a beautiful day at the ballpark!". I always sense an awkward silence in the booth when they do this. Are you ever tempted to make a comment ? Or is it just best to stay away from that entirely ?
  12. No, that's what happens when you can't manage a bullpen and bring in Mitre who's pitched 1/3 inning in the last 14 days. That's Dusty trying to buy an out there in a 2-1 game and save Novoa/Wuertz for extra innings, knowing very well that he would have to PH for Mitre. It's never Dusty, it's always the youth, the weather, the color of the opposing uniform, Steve Garvey's make-a-wish kid, the wind, the fans, and on, and on, and on.
  13. The O/U on pitches faced by Macias: 3 He will accomplish this in 4 ab, because in his first AB he will bat out of order not knowing what to do with himself as he's never hit 6th in his career.
  14. After 143 games, the Giants were 77-66 (.538), 2 back of NYM and 3 back of the Cubs. The Giants went 12-7 over their last 19 games (.632) This scenario requires the Astros, Marlins & Phillies to all play .500 or below and the Cubs to go 15-4(.789) or 16-3(.842) to win 86 or 87 games We will never forget the Cubs holding a 3 game lead in the loss column to the Astros with 8 games to play last year. Stranger things have happened, but I don't think this Cub team is strong enough (at least relative to the 04 Astros) to go on a tear in these last three weeks. Additionally, they are the only club with a better record on the road than at home and with 12/19 games at home, that doesn't seem to bode well for their chances.
  15. Hey Len! Hey! If you were a hot dog, and you were starving, would you eat yourself? Anyhow, how difficult is it to become attached/fan/supporter to the club you're broadcasting for after x number of years with one club ? I say this because early in the season I sensed less excitement in your voice after a big moment. As the year has progressed, you've really seemed to become more emotionally attached, so to speak, with the Cubs. I'm a big fan of what you bring to the games. I hope to hear your calls with the Cubs for years to come.
  16. It would be nice to see Theriot and his propensity for the leadoff walk coming to the plate leading-off in the late innings. Or, at least instead of the obligatory Macias late-inning roll out to second base.
  17. Batting 8th: 2004 - 192 PA 2005 - 198 PA
  18. On a good note; the Reds throw two lefties (Milton and Keisler) in the final two games of this series. The way Patterson is playing, there is no reason for Murton not to be out there against Harang tomorrow night.
  19. and it looks like stewart has been taken out of the game. i gotta say, i've had some bad luck this season (2nd highest point total in the league, but needing a tie breaker to get in + having the 2nd highest point allowed in the league), but my luck has been nothing but remarkably good against you. in a regular season game, ayala had come in and pitched a scoreless inning in the sunday night game, cementing a victory for you. but then he went back out for a second inning and fell apart, and i ended up winning by a very small margin. then, this week, you lose sheff and griffey (two of your huge bats), and then ortiz and biggio take sunday off. now, you did get a ridiculous five save week out of dempster, but still i'd have to say i had the advantage luck-wise. PLUS, two teams screw with their rotation...giving me an extra start and taking one away from you. then your last hope is taken out after five innings in a blowout loss. and i'm obviously not trying to rub it in by typing it all out like that...i'm just trying to say i feel your pain, and i know i was very, very fortunate to win this week...assuming my math is right and i really am on top... [expletive] Gardenhire. yep. it was a good battle and i got screwed by several organizations. had the Yankees not kept everyone in the dark on the Sheffield injury I might have been able to make a lineup change there, but it's not to be. good luck against Tootielicious. he's probably wiping his brow avoiding the 10-start monster! :)
  20. Look out above (if you're Corey or Neifi)! C. Patterson - 20 bb/418 pa = .048 N. Perez - 16 bb/509 pa = .031 J. Macias - 4 bb/136 pa = .029 M. Murton - 11 bb/84 pa = .130 R. Cedeno - 6 bb/85 pa = .070 On this same note, Michael Barrett should be recognized for improving both his bb/pa and bb/k ratios by a nice margin over last season. An all-around nice season for Barrett.
  21. it's going to come down to Stewart's last ab, hopefully 2. he is 1-3, 2 k tonight for 0.5 pts. The score is 260-252. I think your total is around 257-258 for the week, so unless Stewart hits a HR or the equivalent thereof, Buddiga will lose. it would be brutal to lose a potential 10 start week. special thanks to the D-Backs organization for [expletive] Team Buddiga.
  22. you have a 3 start advantage here on the final day down 22 points. if you get a QS from at least one of your guys, i think you'll win. Sheffield and Griffey's absence have killed this team... three start advantage? don't i only have a ONE start edge? johnson and el duque v. vazquez. and thank you, alan trammel, for taking johnson out after 5 innings and 68 pitches against the royals. that was the start i was needing 15 points out of. that's a big break for you... i'd be feeling a little better about things if shelton's good game wasn't being somewhat negated by monroe. i need vazquez to have a 1/3 ip, 6 h, 7 er start today in coors... You also have Kenny Rogers going today against the A's. The D'Backs have decided to go with a 6-man rotation, and are holding Vasquez out until tomorrow. That'll help if I advance, but it does me no good as they apparently send R. Ortiz to the mound today. Oh, and Ortiz is out of the lineup against Unit today in the Sox-Yankees showdown.
  23. you have a 3 start advantage here on the final day down 22 points. if you get a QS from at least one of your guys, i think you'll win. Sheffield and Griffey's absence have killed this team...
  24. Does anyone think Macias batted down 1 run, two out in the 8th last night because Dusty thought he could hit a HR after flying to the wall in St. Louis ? I couldn't believe he was sent to the plate with McClain, Murton, etc sitting on the bench.
