  1. They have the easiest draw in the Tournament. I think they get to the Final 4 and lose in the Semis.
  2. Dude, he's fast...

  4. I've had a pretty cynical view of this Tournament since it's beginnings, however I have been able to see this from a unique viewpoint in the last few days. I'm traveling in Korea for work right now and saw part of the Korea-US game yesterday afternoon. Koreans are extremely hard-working, work-a-holic from some American perspective and particularly from a European perspective. However, yesterday, you saw many people taking 2+ hr lunches so they could see part of the game. I think we only left our lunch because there was a meeting scheduled with the customer at 2 pm. This tournament is a success overseas --- which I believe was the goal all along. It is not about the US, rather, it is a marketing tool for baseball around the world. And, I think it is working better than expected. Asian baseball is thriving. A lot of work needs to be done to truly make this a world-wide success. The timing of the Tournament is tough, but, it's tough for everyone. You've seen it in the US pitchers who aren't throwing much above 90 and aren't throwing much breaking stuff. The exception is Clemens, but he has little to lose. The Asian Leagues start +/- 2 weeks of MLB so their pitchers are at the same disadvantage. I'm glad I've seen this perspective of the Tournament and I think holding it on a 2 or 4 year basis could really help make it a great success.
  5. Maybe Hill/Guzman have a chance to start the year in the rotation after all..... both have been better than williams or rusch, though obviously in limited action. i haven't been able to figure out dusty's formula as to who spring training counts for yet, however... It's a good thing he isn't managing the Padres. Bobby Hill, Josh Barfield, and Bellhorn are battling for the 2nd base job...
  6. You sure? I figure KU, UNC, and Memphis State give them a run for their $ in that stat. You're kidding....Memphis St is that young? Wow. I heard that quoted on a Georgia Tech radio broadcast. 87% pct of Tech's minutes played are by Fr/So. The other 13% are from the backup PG/SG who is a Jr and the backup C who is a Sr. UNC has gotten a ton of minutes from Noel, Terry, Miller, and Sanders. The young team aspect of UNC has been overplayed because of Hansborough.
  7. That was probably the worst final 12 minutes played by any team in Division I basketball this season, with the exception of the other 5 times Tech has done the exact same thing. 5 points in the last 12 minutes ? 7 ACC loses when leading at the half ? Brutal. You guys are having a tough year. Are you still happy with that coach from Siena? I am. It's tough to replace 88% of your offense and the top 6 players in minutes/game. No team in Division I has seen more minutes played by Freshman and Sophomores than Georgia Tech. I thought they'd be further along at this point with the level of talent on the roster, but I underestimated again, the importance of leadership at the point*. Look no further than the 9 losses by less than eight points this season --- 7 of those in ACC play. The reason Tech played for the Title two years ago was purely based on who handled the ball. This year, it's not happening. Tech is going to be a lot better next year adding two of the top players at their position, particularly Crittendon at the point. I think next year they will be a tournament caliber team without question. The following year they could be poised for the deep run. *see Wake Forest as well after Chris Paul's departure (2-10 in the ACC with basically everyone returning but Paul)
  8. That was probably the worst final 12 minutes played by any team in Division I basketball this season, with the exception of the other 5 times Tech has done the exact same thing. 5 points in the last 12 minutes ? 7 ACC loses when leading at the half ? Brutal.
  9. The Jackets are up on Duke 39-34 at the half. Lets see if Tech can play a full 40 minutes of basketball for the first time in a while. They've lost 6 ACC games when leading at halftime and Duke will be the toughest to hold off.
  10. Where you bat, where you field, and how much you play should be based on performance. If that is the metric, then who would you be targeting to bat 2nd based on each player's most recent performance (2005): A. 268 ab, .280/.300/.714, 33 r, 6 bb/26 k B. 254 ab, .299/.351/.843, 36 r, 20 bb/23 k ? As for Murton, I completely agree that he's got a chance to be a superb #2 hitter, but I don't see that as being a likely scenario. I really feel like Dusty is going to slot him 6th going into the season. If I had to guess on opening day: 1. Pierre 2. Walker 3. Lee 4. Ramirez 5. Jonez 6. Murton 7. Barrett 8. Cedeno
  11. Her writing is the type I'd expect from a beat writer covering a college sports team. College beat writers are instructed to do their best in terms of being overly critical and putting down a student-athlete. They are not professionals and sports is not their livelyhood. This lady is writing for the Cubs and is so defensive when it comes to this team. These guys are athletes paid millions to perform at a high level in MLB. Just imagine where they would have been with Ronny Cedeno, or Nomar, or Perez. Yep, I know, probably 4th place.
  12. There's a new Comcast channel called UHD, Channel 846. From the listings it looks like they have several hours of Olympic coverage per day in HD. When they aren't showing the Games, they will be showing Knight Rider. !
  13. It now seems very likely, in fact, he'll be re-named as Red Sox GM by Thursday. The Ben's will likely return to their previous duties. He's been calling the shots the whole time anyway.
  14. While the struggles continue for the football and basketball teams; beer pong results have never been better... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060118/ap_on_fe_st/beer_pong_champs
  15. Steve Novak might be my favorite player to watch in the college game. He has made 6 three-pointers in a game six times and is at 46% for the season. A lot of guys who are great outside shooters can't make free throws. Novak is at 98% for the year. I hope Marquette makes the tournament again. He was great supporting cast for Wade a couple years ago during their Final Four run.
  16. Except for that whole part about Duke being at home and winning the game with the 3... Duke is very good this year. They are a consistently overrated team, but I think they are finally legit and won't bow out to an 8 or 9 in the 2nd round of March. Usually they play a cake OOC schedule. This year they have wins at Indiana, Memphis, and Texas. The ACC is far from what it will be next year. Duke is in it's own league this year, but the rest of the conference will come up to them. However, NC State on the road is always a trap game for them. Look for them to struggle tonight and need the officiating to help them get a W. If Larry Rose isn't doing the game - they probably will not win.
  17. Maddux. And who is EPatt's agent? Boras represents Eric and Corey.
  18. Beautiful:
  19. 23-20, Patriots.
  20. Hopefully this team is bad enough to force regime change in 2007 and beyond. I guess I'm a bit pessimistic going into this season.
  21. and, they got nothing for him. i at least thought he'd figure in the cubs plans to field a 4x400 relay team in the outfield...
  22. BC is learning quickly how difficult the ACC is. They are a better team than they were the last two years and lost just 5 Big East road games. They've already dropped their first 2 ACC road games. Georgia Tech is young, very athletic, but despite moving to 2-0 in the ACC there is much to be done if they want to contend for an NCAA berth. Great win for a young team early in the season.
  23. Same score in the Giants/Panthers game I have. However, I say the Giants get 27 on four TD's, but Feely misses an extra point rather than a 3 TD, 2 FG performance.
  24. Jacksonville 16 New England 13 Washington 20 Tampa Bay 23 Pittsburgh 24 Cincinnati 31 Carolina 17 NY Giants 27
