  1. Signing Giles would be a drastic change in philosophy. Granted he will be 34 entering next season, he has been to the DL once since 1998. His career OBP is almost .420. Hendry made a brilliant move by trading for a similar type player in Lee in his prime. Giles might be past his best seasons, but what he has left over the next 2 to 3 years and the way he plays the game is beyond anything that is out there right now. As for Furcal. I've made my case for why I don't want him to be a Cub. He's another toolsy player. I want Hendry to sign baseball players.
  2. Another factor to consider; how would a White Sox World Championship impact the direction of the Cubs, if at all ? Hendry's tenure continues to grow longer and when you add the pressure of putting forth of a winning team, General Manager's have been known to make irrational decisions. The Cubs would be the furthest removed from a Championship of any kind with the Ranger franchise a distant second. Throwing around more money isn't going to do the Cubs any good this offseason. They have more than enough of it to go around and bring in the right parts without increasing payroll.
  3. As for Furcal, his defense this season was far better than at any point in his career. Was '05 a season in which his defensive work matched his ability level or will he regress to throwing the ball into the camera well 30 times a year in '06 ? I'm not sure I'm sold on that. One thing is for sure, no matter where he throws it, he would have a first baseman who can snag almost anything.
  4. Stunner of the season in the makings in Athens ? Arkansas is down 23-20 to Georgia (4) with 5 minutes to play. Arkansas has run it down Georgia's throat for 255 yards. If not for their 3 turnovers, they'd probably be ahead.
  5. Georgia Tech @ Miami has been postponed until Sat, November 19th. Instead of a bye before the Georgia game, Tech finishes at Virginia, Miami, and home with Georgia. Does anyone have a more brutal finish to their season than Tech ? I'd take what I can get from those final three games. At least the Jackets have a very good shot at 6-2 going into those games.
  6. reminds me of that slider Urbina threw Sosa in the '03 series...
  7. That is a classic for Dirt Dogs.
  8. What were Jeter & A-rod doing in Boston? :D Getting an annulment.
  9. There are many bars/pubs within walking distance of Charlestown. Just a wild guess.
  10. Doesn't seem like Michelle wants to be a Yankee wife. And, what Michelle wants, she usually gets (so the saying goes): (On Boston) ''It's a lot prettier than New York," she says -- though there has been talk that he will head to the Yankees should the call come. ''I can't see him in a Yankees uniform," Mangan says. ''The only thing he says is if Boston didn't give him a fair-market value, and what he deserves, and another team comes along, he has to really think about it. This could be his last contract, it could be his retirement, his future, his kids' future. But New York? No. Boston would really have to hurt his feelings." ... I can see him in Anaheim or back in Boston.

  12. The bottom line is the amount of hyperbole in this thread has been hilarious. You don't know what he would have done. Farns was a fantastic reliever for the Cubs in 03, and a big reason why they went anywhere. The Farns myopia's funny as well. So he wasn't fantastic in '03 and didn't play a major part in that year's success? A lot of animosity remains based on how he performed in those playoffs. He had a wonderful regular season, but a lot of people remember him giving up a double off the wall with the wind howling in to Mike Mordecai in a 4-3 game.
  13. As opposed to being down on them ?
  14. Farnsworth Career Postseason: 11 ip, 10 h, 9 r, 5 bb
  15. So was Bobby Cox. Of course, both were drafted by the Cubs.
  16. Yep, was watching it. Nebraska had the game wrapped up with that interception, but they just fumbled it away on the return. I feel like I've been slugged in the stomach and then kicked in the junk while trying to gain my breath. Life blows. It could be worse. You could be a Cubs fan. Oh, wait... That's an excellent point. This year has blown. I feel the pain. Anyone who saw Georgia Tech's fate on Thursday Night understands...
  17. Yeah, great finish. Was that Leon Lett on Nebraska's D-line ?

Looks like I'll be drafting outfielders.
  21. They put their hot dogs on slices of Wonderbread at Fenway Park. You can get a better hot dog pretty much anywhere in America. No matter where you go, or even the grocery store, in New England, you get a hot dog on a roll. Anyhow, the best ballpark hotdog is a Dodger Dog from Farmer John. No doubt.
  22. He made his 1st ML pitch in 2003. He was points exempt after the 03 and 04 seasons. Is he also exempt after this 05 season, or has his time run out ?
  23. A solid 0-5 last night. The Sox recieved the Bellhorn curse last night. Ugh.
  24. Not true. When a lot of people talk about "fundamentals", they refer to defense and play in the field, baserunning, hitting the cutoff man, as well as bunting, moving over a runner third, or generating a sac fly. they're also referring to guys standing on third base for 5 seconds when a ball is hit to deep short, then running home and getting gunned out by a weak-armed SS. he will remain nameless.
