  1. The Cubs are in game five of a stretch in which they play 34 games in 35 days. Based on past history, it would be a surprise to see them drop to 11 pitchers at this point. Then again, nothing should be a surprise with this organization.
  2. A few things to draw from that: 1. Runelvys Hernandez should be gone for 30 games, at least. I can't recall an intentional toss at a hitter's head since Benitez several years ago in Yankee Stadium. 2. Farnsworth should get 6-10 games. 3. Matt Stairs should be a Cub.
  3. There is no rule actual written rule in baseball for where the home team dugout is located. It certainly seems that there are more AL teams with a home dugout on the first base side of the field. My personal opinion for why the Yankees and a lot of other clubs are on the first base side is so the owner/upper management box has a line of sight to the dugout. Also, there may have been more space to build a better home clubhouse on the first base side of the park, thus the dugout would be there as well.
  4. I had no idea until I looked it up, but Rafael Palmeiro hasn't been on the disabled list since 1987.
  5. :-s I'm off the hook. Nice job, first-pitch swinging when the pressure is on the pitcher to keep it in the yard.
  6. 7 baserunners for the Cubs today. Should be interesting to see if they do anything with this AND if Dusty goes to his bench for Blanco/Maddux.
  7. It's cliche, but that was just Cub-like in all respects. 2 easy outs, a walk, an error, and a double.......
  8. Would rather be getting owned by Daisy Duke: http://cdn-channels.netscape.com/gallery/i/s/simpson4/20050305_war_l90_157.jpg
  9. 3rd time through for Duke against the Cubs. Should be interesting to see who makes the appropriate adjustments.
  10. Payton hit a 2-run shot off John Wasdin in his first AB with the A's.
  11. The starters have been solid, but what about when this club plays a one or two run game ? They can continue to be great for 6 or 7 innings, but the Cubs have to find a way to bridge the gap to Dempster. If they do that, this club could only need 4 or 5 runs at most per night to win games on a regular basis (i.e. 2nd half of '03). They've had flashes of excellence in the 7th and 8th from Novoa, Wuertz, Wellemeyer, etc, but no one has take the job and run with it. At this point in the season, I don't think it's going to happen internally.
  12. Aramis Ramirez: Thru July 04: 93 games, 357 ab, 27 2b, 21 hr, 68 rbi, 28 bb Finished: 145 games, 547 ab, 32 2b, 36 hr, 103 rbi, 49 bb Thru July 15th, 05: 85 games, 321 ab, 23 2b, 20 hr, 60 rbi, 26 bb On Pace for: 155 games, 584 ab, 42 2b, 36 hr, 109 rbi, 47 bb After a mediocre start, he's basically on his way to replicating last season's numbers. Just hope he remains healthy the rest of the way!
  13. Yes. The Pirates also have Zach Duke, another lefty, going on Saturday.
  14. I think I'd rather have him say that than what could be the real reason --- fans making Wrigley Field the UnFriendly Confines. boo!
  15. I think Dusty has played against the strengths of his club and the ballpark by fielding guys that can't get on base in front of one of the better power lineups in baseball. The Cubs are 2nd in the league in HR, but 13th in OBP. Additionally, they are 5th in the league hitting (by BA and OPS) w/RISP, but 13th in AB w/RISP. I don't have the ballpark metrics, nor do I know the ratio of wind in:out, but it certainly seems Wrigley has played very small this season.
  16. What about a lineup with both Patterson and Garciaparra ? Walker Garciaparra Lee Ramirez Burnitz Murton/Hollandsworth Patterson Barrett ? Otherwise: Hairston Walker Garciaparra Lee Ramirez Burnitz Murton Barrett
  17. I don't know, we'll have to wait to see if he can pitch or not to know for sure. I wonder how many other position players, who pitched at least 1 inning, retired with an ERA of 0.00 ?
  18. Payton will be traded to Oakland for Chad Bradford. The deal is likely to be finalized today.
  19. Travis Hafner's absence from this game is brutal: OBP, 1 SLG, 2 OPS, 1
  20. I don't understand why Roberts 9th is stupid. It's the same philosophy Francona employs in Boston (with Bellhorn). Put a high OBP guy in the 9th spot so that your 3 and 4 hitters have more opportunities to drive in runs.
  21. Eric, thanks for taking time to answer our questions. I grew up in Cobb Co. and it's really amazing to see how many players from that area are currently in pro baseball. How much did playing baseball in the East Cobb area benefit you in your development ?
  22. What else did anyone expect ? Baker clearly thinks Murton is an experiment: “It’s early,” Baker said of Murton. “For the everybody-wants-to-win-now, do you continue to experiment or do you go with a known entity, too? That’s what the question is, and what do you have to give up for the entity?” I'd send Murton back to West Tenn. It's more frustrating to have him with the Cubs if Baker is the manager. I say this because the old flame is back for Bake when it comes to Hollandsworth: “You can’t just shelve Holly,” Baker said. “Holly’s doing an outstanding job for us. He’s finally got his act together. I don’t want Holly off too many days. I’m going to play Holly tomorrow because if not, Holly would be off almost a week. That’s a long time.” You got him 2 ab's on Saturday Night and he did nothing. You got him 5 ab's today and he left 8 men on base. Maybe Hendry comes to his senses (what little he has) while pondering the club the next 3 days.
  23. Greenberg is LH. Without Lee, this should be the lineup for tomorrow: Hairston Greenberg Walker Ramirez Burnitz Barrett Murton Cedeno Expected lineup: Hairston Perez Walker Ramirez Burnitz Hollandsworth Barrett Macias
  24. Yellow Jacket.
