This is just noise-making for people who have nothing better to do. As I recall, Hank Aaron gave an interview (paraphrasing) on Jackie Robinson Day where he stated that it's much easier for inner city kids to pick up a basketball or football and head to the court or field and it's popular. Baseball is dying because the kids can't afford what they need to play and the scouts are afraid in some cases to go into the inner cities and watch kids play. Additionally, the ball fields in the inner cities don't exist anywhere close to the levels they do in suburban and rural communities. Jesse Jackson and his cronies must have something better to do than hold a meeting with the Braves because they don't have black players. I'm planning on holding a meeting with the Hawks next week to figure out where all their white players went. Gone are the days of Jon Koncak and company. :roll:

3rd order W/L says the Cubs should be 14-9. We'll see if as the sample size increases with increasing games whether this comes back closer to real W/L. I don't believe any team in ML history has finished more than 8 games less than the 3rd order W/L predictor. The Cubs are currently 4 off that predictor. The scary part is that the Cubs have scored a lot of runs despite a terrible team OBP. The fortunate bit is that they reside in a division of non-walkers (save Cincy).

15 point differential between the Dawgs and Buddiga going into today. Basically, the only way Buddiga wins is if the Dawgs 2 starters tank it.

That's fun. Borowski gives up 6 runs in the bottom of the 9th to the Yankees after mowing people down all year. The fact that A-Rod hit another game winning HR lessens the blow a bit...

Teams want to have home games - how would you propose they keep all the cold weather teams on the road for all of April? well, you obviously couldn't do it all of april, but you could do it do it to some extent for the first week or two. Due to the playing surface in poor shape and the uncertain forecast, MLB has moved the Indians next series to Miller Park. I'm sure Dusty has some input on how MLB should deal with the cold weather.

Official scoring change charges Zito with 2 more ER. Buddiga has a 14.75 pt lead headed into tonight and without deducted all the TBA. Hopefully Papi drives in all the runs before Drew bats.

We'll see. Logically, I benched Hill and Zito gets my 7th start of the week. He could clinch the week or allow your team a chance. i made some poor choices this week. going with cordero over wickman cost me 20 points, and going with sheets and myers over smoltz cost me too. looks like i'm gonna need HUGE games from teix, drew, and papelbon tonight. oh, and arod killed me this week...big time. I think you'll take it. Zito imploded and probably had 20 bases against him. We're 18 points apart right now and I've got Ortiz left for the week.

This has to be torture for Dusty given that only 7 or 8 guys between the two teams are over 30. I'll bet he's pulling for the O's to put Fast Freddie in the game. Then he'll tell us all about speed and fishing...

A decent offensive day, and I'll have a 2 start advantage going the rest of the week. Your team is loaded and if they have a half way decent week offensively, it'll be tough to catch up. I need to get Cliff Lee back to round out the rotation. By the way, do we just reserve a starter who will make the 8th start for each team this week ?

Only a dynamic duo of Vitale and Packer. If anything, I think the ACC was well-seeded in this tournament. Everyone except Duke is slotted accordingly. Duke is an 8 seed, playing as a 6 because they are Duke. They finished 4-6, went 8-8 in conference, and were 8-7 against the Top 50. They are a gift at 6 because of who they beat in the first month. Georgia Tech/UNLV in their first matchup since the Final Four in 1990. Tark and Cremins are watching from afar. I thought UNLV deserved a 5.

As I said, the announcers came off as total Duke homers. I wanted to see Hansbrough go ape on Henderson. Woulda loved that. Jim Nantz and Billy Packer. Enough said. Billy Packer is terrible. He did the GT/UNC game on Thursday and in the post game said Tech needed to win 2 or 3 more games. Today, he says Tech is a lock. Packer and Nantz will be there all the way through March. Meh.

As GT just destroyed BC, Duke and Georgia Tech will finish with identical conference records; 8-8. Duke played the toughest ACC schedule, Tech's was rated 4th. Conference tournament aside, it'd be interesting to see where Lunardi and others have each team: Duke, 22-9, 8-8 ACC, 9-9 vs Top 50 (Most games against Top 50 in NCAA) GT, 20-10, 8-8 ACC, 8-8 vs Top 50 (2nd most games against Top 50 in NCAA) 1-1 against each other; wins on home court My guess, Duke will be in as a 5 and Tech in as a 9 (ugh - potential matchup with a 1).

A win Sunday puts Tech in with room to spare. 20 wins, 8-8 ACC, 7-3 to finish. Tech gets in with an 8/9 seed. A loss, and I think the 1st Rd. ACC game becomes almost a must win because that game will likely be against NC State or Wake Forest. The Jackets are really starting to put it together. I thought each of the last 2 games were their best of the season.

Correct - just as you'd assume Ortiz would be the primary 1b if Youkilis went down or played 3rd or played LF. Bottom line - I have to fix my roster.

Have I screwed up here ? Ortiz played 10 games last year making him eligible. If I go to my lineup, he has the option to be a 1b or a U. Is it 20 last season and 10 this season ? Or, once a player plays 10, he's eligible until he loses it by playing less than 10 in a season ? If not, I'm looking at drastic changes and should have accounted for this before 4 pm today to have drafted accordingly. Input is appreciated. My understanding is that if he didn't play first base 20 games last year, he won't be eligible at 1B until he's played 10 games this year. Strange though - as I look at eligibilities around the league it has Aubrey Huff eligible at 1st even though he played 3 games there. It looks like I screwed up, but a cursory glance gives plenty of ineligibility issues.

Since America runs on Dunkin, does America also run on Mark Bellhorn ? I ask because he just recently bought 4 Dunkin franchises in the Boston area. Just when the sporting public counts out Bellhorn, he delivers. He'll probably even win the starting job at 2nd over Phillips!
