  1. Murton is too right-handed...
  2. You must include, if you haven't already, the number of times said GRITy ballplayer gets the runner from 2nd to 3rd with no one out. Some consider this skill only one that a GRITy ballplayer can accomplish. You don't see Matt Holliday moving that runner over. He's selfish, he tries to drive that runner in or out of the park and pad is RBI stats. A GRITy ballplayer would do it like they did in the old days and move that runner over so the next GRITy ballplayer could drive him in with a groundball to the middle infielders or a flyball into the outfield. That's GRITy.
  3. I'm not sure about that. It's been debated that Eric Young, Delino DeShields, Harold Reynolds, and Tony Womack are GRITy ballplayers. Those guys brought a level of intangibility that few have ever brought to the game.
  4. Other than Theriot/DeRosa flip-flopped, that's the best lineup the Cubs can currently put on the field.
  5. It would have to be. If Ohman, Marshall and Trachsel are out, than it is Hart.
  6. Hendry often approaches trades like a stupid house buyer in a good buyers market. If the house is 350k, Hendry will just pay it because it feels right. He won't offer anything less when the person unloading the house is already out of it and just wants to unload it because they don't want to pay for it anymore. Such is the case of Steve Trachsel. Hendry got a lemon and paid paid the asking price with no other prospective buyers.
  7. Competition. It doesn't matter how bad teams are, they will compete against the best. A lot of these teams have young players battling to leave a good impression in the eyes of their organizations. They don't want to play minor league ball next year. For some of the veterans, or guys approaching free agency, they might catch the eye of a club in contention now and gain a job next season. Chad Cordero got bombed last night by the Mets and then tore apart the dugout. He was on the top step to see Rauch get the last out and was there to congratulate him. The Nationals are playing as well as anyone right now.
  8. The Orsillo/Stone combination will be very strong.
  9. The Orsillo/Stone combination will be very strong.
  10. Yea, right True. However, with the new left-handed starter lineup it is certainly more probable.
  11. And Buck Coats is gonna win it with a pinch-hit granny off Dempster. No. They will clinch in FLA. And with Trachsel on the mound ? At least Soto will probably catch him. Matchups for the Florida series: Tuesday - Lilly / Willis Wednesday - Marquis / Barone Thursday - Trachsel / Olsen The Thursday game might take 5 hours. The Cubs certainly aren't facing the back of anyone's rotation right now. Willis seems to be putting it together just in time for the season to end. If the Cubs can be patient with Olsen, they will beat him.
  12. Another good day to hit tomorrow. Wind from the South at 10 mph. After blowing in basically all Summer, it's interesting how the pattern has turned late in the season.
  13. I think people are still having a hard time adjusting to the fact that Piniella doesn't really care about who is a proven veteran and who isn't. If this was Dusty Baker's team, yes, it'd be Blanco and Blanco would be playing as often as Soto is right now. But, it's Soto who's getting the AB's and he will be on the playoff roster if the Cubs get the chance to fill one out. In fact, the case can be made that Soto should be starting right now given that Kendall is 8-50 in September and Soto is 11-19. Not saying this means Soto wont be on a playoff roster if we make it, but its clear today was just an offday for Kendall and nothing more. And, from the Sun-Times today: We'll see how this plays out. Hopefully, more playing time for Soto.
  14. Marquis is top 25 in the NL in ERA, WHIP, IP, and BAA. Anyone would take that from their 4th starter. July and August were horrible, but he looks very strong to finish this season which this team needs. He has walked only 4 batters in his four starts in September.

  16. Do we know if the man is even alive after tonight ? How is he going to make it through the last 15 games (and hopefully, October) ?
  17. A-Rod may get 2000 by himself.
  18. You went to Georgia Tech ? Yep. Didn't graduate, but I went. I was there from 99 - 03.
  19. You went to Georgia Tech ?
  20. I'm impressed by both teams so far. It'll be a well played game, for sure. Under the lights in Atlanta. Only two games played, but Georgia Tech is 4th in rush offense and BC is 4th in rush defense. That's the game right there. I can't wait. Beer is already cold.
  21. I have no problem with Marmol going 1 and 2/3 (29 pitches). It was only the second time he has pitched over the last week and the one time he did pitch it was 1/3. Marmol should be unavailable today. He'll be needed tomorrow. Howry was rested and only went 1/3. He should be good to go today as should Dempster. Wuertz is rested and has looked really solid the last 3 times on the mound.
  22. Yea, it's always good when the kick-off guy has to boot it 8 times in the first half.
  23. Go Royals. That's all I can say at this point.
  24. Notre Dame isn't very good, but they may not be as bad as some thought. Georgia Tech dropped 69 points on Samford and over 400 yards on the ground - mostly with the 2nd and 3rd team offenses. Tech gets tested at home next Saturday Night against BC.
  25. 3-way tie scenarios ?
