  1. September, 2003: 1st, 131 pitches, 8 IP, W 6th, 130 pitches, 7 IP, W 11th, 111 pitches, 5.2 IP, ND 16th, 124 pitches, 8.2 IP, W 21st, 131 pitches, 7.2 IP, W 27th, 133 pitches, 6.2 IP, W October 2003: 3rd, 133 pitches, 9 IP, W 8th, 119 pitches, 7 IP, W 14th, 119 pitches, 7.1 IP, L Totals, 9 games (6 weeks), 126 pitches/game, 7-1 I can't recall a pitcher going through that kind of stretch other than Clemens or Hersheiser in their primes. They didn't do it in their 2nd full season of professional baseball. It's just amazing to this day.
  2. After digging through the rules, I think you guys are right. Once a player has 200 ML AB, then his cap exemption clock starts. So, he had 370 AB in 2003. His 3rd exemption would have been going into LAST season. He never came off my Minor League roster until this season and I had forgotten he even played in the Majors in 2003. Juan, is the above correct ?
  3. Tonight's Tech/Heels game closes out their week. 5 of the Top 10 recruits from last year are on the same floor (Young/Crit for Tech and Wright/Ellington/Lawson for UNC). Tech has a good chance if they can stay away from turnovers. Other than the loss to UCLA, they have been beating themselves.
  4. He never came off my minor league roster since I took him in the Minors draft. You are correct about 2003, but this would make his 3rd exemption, correct ? He had < 200 ab in each year after except last year.
  5. I'll probably end up with the following keepers, unless something changes by way of trades: 1B, David Ortiz (687.8) 2B, Brandon Phillips (? Exemption) 3B, Alex Rodriguez (561.2) OF, Jeff Francouer (2nd Exemption) SP, Barry Zito (467.7) SP, Dontrelle Willis (500.3) SP, Daniel Cabrera (3rd Exemption) SP, John Maine (Minors) RP, Tom Gordon (252.2) Total = 2469 That leaves me needing a C, SS, U, 3 OF's, 1 SP, and 2 RP's. Safe to say, I'll be drafting and/or looking to trade for outfielders.
  6. Duke is not very good right now. Tech turned it over 28 times and still won going away. Until Duke can figure out how to score some points, they are going to have a very hard time in this ACC. Much of the league can score at will.
  7. Yes, he's a junior and is coming soon to an Oakland Raiders or Tampa Bay Buccaneers near you. I'd be shocked if he passed up the draft for another year. However, his roommate is Taylor Bennett. They are great friends and have roomed for the last 2 years. There are a lot of rumors swirling around that he may stay for the degree and the opportunity to play a season with his best friend on the team who happens to be a QB. We'll see what kind of taste of it he gets in the Gator Bowl...
  8. I can't decide if that makes it more likely that GT will win in the Gator Bowl or lose-my first instinct was like when any starting QB goes out, that this would make them much more vulnerable-when I stopped to think about it, I'm not so sure about it-depending on Bennett's talent level, it might actually make them better, especially if Bennett will get the ball to Calvin Johnson. Bennett is a much better pocket passer than Ball - much better. He can't make a play or run for 8 yards and pick up a 3rd and 7 as Ball could. My question is whether Nix will open up the offense for Bennett. Bennett throws a really nice ball down the field and Tech is going to have to score TD's to win this game. Ball's anticlimatic exit has many feeling sorry for him as a basically wasted away his senior year of college. But, it seems to have energized the fan base to see what Bennett can do as he's going to be the QB the next 2 years.
  9. Infamous Georgia Tech, QB, Reggie Ball dropped below a 2.0 last semester and will not be eligible for the Gator Bowl on Jan 1. Taylor Bennett will start. What a way to end a college career. 15-56 in the two biggest games of his career and he fails out of school in his second to last semester. He will have to re-apply to even get a degree to fall back on.
  10. The NFC Wild Card picture could be great on the final week. If Atlanta beats Carolina this weekend, Dallas beats Philly, and the Giants lose to the Saints, you have a 3 way tie going into the last week of 8-7 teams. The Falcons play in Philly on that last weekend and that would determine one of the playoff berths. It then becomes a cluster between the Giants, Green Bay/Minnesota, SF, and St Louis for that last spot in the NFC. That would be a great weekend of football - and that's just the NFC!
  11. Take a look back 5 years ago. Ichiro, the highest rated everyday player ever to come out of Japan recieved a 3 year/15 million contract. 5 years later, the Red Sox are offering $40 million gauranteed to a pitcher who has never thrown a ML pitch. That offer is fair. However, if you are Boras, you sit there and see stupid signings for 10-12 million by the Cubs and Rangers for pitchers who are mediocre at best. He's probably playing that card. But, you can't treat this as though it is free agency. Boston offered tons of money just to negociate and pay at the end. $15 million per season is ridiculous and 3x what Ichiro got just 5 years ago. If I was Boston, I'd try to back load some deal with no more than $10 mill/year for the average value of the contract.
  12. It's looking like a deal with the Red Sox is dead and the scapegoat, as usual, is Scott Boras: Per Boston Herald, Matsuzaka Talks Break Down
  13. I can't stand Duke as well, but that's not quite true. They played Air Force and Marquette at a neutral site, and the go to Gonzaga. And even though they play a ton of home games, they play Air Force, Marquette, Indiana, Gonzaga, Georgetown, George Mason, Holy Cross, and Davidson all before the ACC season. They aren't playing the Sisters of the Poor. Well then Majerus lied today. He stated that there first road game would be in the ACC. They are not very good this year, I could easily see them playing .500 in conference. The Gonzaga game is at MSG. Duke's first true road game is in Atlanta against Georgia Tech.
  14. It did improve the bench from the left side. He should be an asset late in games or in extra innings.
  15. I thought next year's rotation had a good shot to set a record for walks allowed. Adding Lilly probably pushed them over the edge...
  16. Stewie Mandel makes good on his promise: Of course, the season could fall apart on Saturday with a loss in the Championship Game. Or, we could be playing in the Orange Bowl. I haven't felt this anxious about a Tech game since the 98 Georgia game (Tech won at 0:00 with a field goal).
  17. Eh - good luck! What do you think about tonight's game? I'm pretty worried about your freshman PG vs. Collison. They have to come out strong and won't come back on UCLA if they get down as they did the previous two nights. I'm worried about Critt playing 3 straight tough games, so I don't expect to be at his best. Tonight should be a nice test of how deep this team is. Hewitt will substitute even more than usual to keep players fresh. UCLA goes 10 deep, but really relies on the first 5. Tech goes 9 deep and all 9 get quality minutes (every player is averaging at least 12 min/game). Maybe Tech just wears UCLA out in this one... and meet again in March...
  18. Eh - good luck!
  19. I thought this was interesting. Current institutions with football and basketball programs ranked in the Top 25: Ohio St, F(1), B(3) LSU, F(9), B(6) Florida, F(4), B(1) Wisconsin, F(10), B(7) Georgia Tech, F(15), B(19) Boston College, F(18), B(23) Four ranked in the Top 10 in both is really surprising.
  20. Another second half explosion (62) for the young Jackets. As much as the coaches preach it, I don't think the team has been ready for the battles early in games from more experienced teams. Enormous talent and I think Tech puts it all together by February.
  21. Can either of them get past UCLA tomorrow ? I'm hoping Tech ends up against UCLA on Wednesday. They looked strong in the second half. They are so deep which should help the next two games.
  22. I would have voted it that way. I don't think any team in college football would have been within two TD's of Ohio State yesterday. The only thing that could change this is for USC to blow out Notre Dame.
  23. Nice move by the Rangers. They let DeRosa walk and brought in a better offensive player, who's the same age, and they are paying him the same money as DeRosa would have earned. Catalanotto has produced an OBP of .360 or better and an OPS of .815 or better in 6 of the past 7 seasons. DeRosa had a breakout year at the same age. The main difference is that Cat doesn't play 2nd anymore and DeRosa does. But if you are grooming Ian Kinsler, who cares ?
  24. It's rivalry week. Time to get it off to a good start: http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m251/elfstone1232006/UGA_diploma.jpg
  25. The best of the non-con tournaments, the Maui Invitational, starts on Monday Afternoon: Maui Site Should be a great tournament. How did UCLA manage to draw Chaminade in the first game ?
