  1. If the Cubs job is available and they don't interview Brad Mills, then they aren't doing their job. I think he is the best canidate for the job. He is the most open about using skill as a metric rather than experience. He has toiled for years managing in the minors, 5 with the Cubs (87-92), spent 1 year as an advanced scout for the Cubs, and most recently he's been Francona's brain for the last 4 seasons.
  2. I don't know. But, Dusty has done some strange things at the mound like flip the "game ball" to his starter in the 7th game of the World Series...

  4. the comma probably has better intangibles though. maybe brings more in terms of team chemistry ?
  5. Lyle Overbay has 1/3rd of Buddiga's 68 points thus far. I recommend starting any hitter that faces Baltimore.
  6. 104.5. yes! hurry back d. lee - the mathematics don't have us out yet!
  7. We're 10 games out dude. Gotta keep pushing for that Wild Card. I don't see those mathematics kicking in yet.
  8. Baker assumes Murton is supposed to be a power hitter right now. There is no development stage with Murton in Dusty's eyes because Matt hit 7 HR's in limited AB's last year and hasn't come up to that level this season. Now that Murton is slugging the ball all over the park we get the whole sermon about how Dusty uses his guys. Nevin would still be in the outfield had Lee not gone down and Walker traded. You don't get lucky and find guys like Murton with excellent zone hitting ability, + power potential, acceptable glove, good speed. The Cubs have a player who can play every day in this league and be a solid .290/.360/.480 type player if they let him develop at this level. Pagan is fast, has some pop, and plays a good outfield. He's a perfect 4th outfielder. Murton should be in AAA right now or a rookie based on his development schedule and he's out performing half the ballclub.
  9. i'm pulling for you! With a good game from Hunter, plus a good start by Burnett, I think I'll win. I currently lead by almost 17, and I doubt that any points my opponent gets from Flash Gordon tonight and my overnight deductions for total bases allowed would overcome that spread. And I still have points for Burnett's QS to be added. Of course, to be an equal opportunity spoiler, I'll also need to take care of you when we play again. :D Please do. Another good week for your club. A big week in the East as Buddiga has a chance to gain ground on someone as the Sanitizers host the Budcrew.
  10. i'm pulling for you! by the way, fausto carmona: -23 points this week. ouch. I'm hoping for yet another Big Papi day. And for once, it'd be nice if A-Rod would step up!
  11. It just goes to show how bad this team sucks. A 15-11 record is only a .577 winning percentage, which won't even help come close to the Wild Card. God, this team just SUCKS. wouldn't a .577 winning % mean 93 wins over the course of a season? That would be pretty close to winning it most years and likely would win it this year. The Cubs would be leading the Central Division with a .577 win percentage. The Cards currently lead at .537.
  12. That just adds more insult to injury in terms of approach, both on the mound and the plate. The Cubs have been out-walked in 78% of games and when they actually out walk someone, they are 15-11. 30-53 in all other games. Speed is a nice asset if your team gets on base.
  13. I would have done it had you not removed Napoli!
  14. Well, you know how the Cubs value defense. Others, myself included, remain skeptical. Ahh, this is a gem: In other words, those media guys (Bruce) didn't play this game. They just sit there with their numbers and think about how stupid it is to focus on speed and batting with RISP. I'm a ballplayer, can I play ?
  15. They are old school. The mound is still 15" high in their world. The ball weighs almost as much as a grapefruit. The Polo Grounds still exist. Gibson just lowered his ERA to 1.12 yesterday. I guess its like any other business around. The ones who live in the past fail. The ones who are always looking ahead succeed.
  16. Has anyone informed Jim that the Reds are last in the NL in BA with RISP ? Somehow, they are leading the Wild Card. And that Boston team, they are 13th in the AL in BA with RISP. Bruce, could you mention this stat at some point to Baker or Hendry ? You couldn't fit any curve in the world to batting with RISP.
  17. It's no doubt Boston needs a catcher on the news that Tek has a torn meniscus in his knee and will need surgery. That's usually a 6 week limitation to starting physical activity. Blanco is a nice idea given need for a good signal caller and defender.
  18. I dunno. He's probably just not good enough to be a major leaguer, even though I love him. Edit: Is that .718 his slugging, or his OPS? It can't be his slugging. OPS. I believe he was just ready to come off the DL (he was on it for about 1 month) at Pawtucket before he was designated.
  19. Varitek went on the DL and to make room on the 40-man roster for Ken Huckaby, the Sox designated Hee Seop. Choi was hitting .207/.347/.718 in 227 AB at AAA-Pawtucket. If you are the Cubs, do you take a flier on him ? You have Mabry and Nevin to play the balance of the year at 1st. Nevin will likely depart in a waiver deal. No 1st baseman above A ball is currently on the Cub 40-man roster. It would be tragic to see Mabry play out the string there.
  20. I hit the accept button instead of reject with comments on a trade with Rawaction. The trade was Carmona and Holliday of rawaction for Francoeur and Maine of Buddiga....
  21. I get the dunce cap for mistakenly accepting the trade posted on Roadkill. JS, can you please reset the rosters ?
  22. Ortiz has produced, alone, 27% of Boston's offense. That's incredible. His runs created/27 number has a chance of surpassing that of the Bonds greatest offensive season in the history of the game.
  23. It's all in the approach. He goes to the plate with the same approach in the 9th inning as he does in the 3rd. He looks for a ball in a zone and he tries to do something with it. It just so happens that when he gets that pitch he does something with it more than most. He has the best leadoff man in the game right now getting on base 40% of the time. Loretta always has a quality AB. The pitcher is almost always in the stretch and has been worked for several pitches by that point. And, he has Manny as protection. I'm not trying to simplify what Ortiz has done. I was at a friends' house tonight and we all looked at each other before the inning and said, just get Big Papi up there and this is a ballgame. He is successful at about the same rate in those situations as he is in the others. He's a great player. He's the best hitter in the AL right now. He and Pujols are the last two guys in the game I'd want to face because they both have an approach and never get away from it.
  24. Dusty always plays his splits. Webb is has severe L/R splits so the lineup is loaded with lefties. Now, Neifi will be out of baseball in 2 years and so will Mabry. But, we're pushing for the Wild Card boys. This ain't no development time. That happens during fishing season.
