  1. This is for anyone who was worried about agreeing with Phil Rogers the last few times out. I sometimes wonder if the last guy who interviews will get the job. On the flip side, maybe that's Henry being secretive.
  2. That will supposedly be his second interview with the Nationals, though his first one might have been a phone interview?
  3. It's originally from the Cubs Fun Blogspot. ETA: too slow!
  4. To echo, please keep the discussion on topic and not digress into namecalling. On topic: I would have been happy to see Hendry go, too. I'm guessing they kept him around for some temporary stability and his two-year contract was likely a detriment. Still, Dusty did a lot of things wrong as well and I'm more than pleased to see him go.
  5. Quade is being interviewed tonight.
  6. Hopefully Hendry doesn't do the deal.
  7. XX! http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/images/smiles/eusa_whistle.gif I was reading a Padres forum and saw a post about Towers coming on right before he did and was able to google it.
  8. They may have talked to someone other than Towers (Sandy Alderson is the President) -- he said in the interview that was possible and, though they talk everyday, the phone calls may have crossed. Sounds like permission has been granted!
  9. Kevin Towers, Padres GM, was just interviewed on San Diego sports radio and said that they had not been contacted by the Cubs or anyone else yet about Bochy. He said they were planning to have organizational meetings in the near future and would discuss extending Bochy's contract among other things. You can listen to the Bochy part of the interview here. It's the " sportsradio_kevin_towers_101006.mp3" file and is a little over 3.5 minutes. The full interview on Everything Padres is also there as Sportsradio_Kevin_Towers_full_interview and is about 20 minutes. Includes the Bochy talk, full roster discussion, Giles batting leadoff, what to do with Matt Bush, etc etc.
  10. I'm not an insider and don't have access to the full article, but Keith Law didn't think much of Bochy in the playoffs.
  11. Gammons continues to say that the Cubs aren't enthused about Girardi; Boers or Bernstein (sorry, don't know which one) says he spoke with a 'Cubs insider' who also says that Girardi is not a top choice.
  12. I would hope so. I've read in the past that teams really don't exercise much control over players in the caribbean winter leagues and that teams have objected to pitchers playing winter ball before to no avail. Hopefully Z and the Cubs are on the same page.
  13. The legwork for Ramirez's contract (establishing the max $ he's worth to this team) was probably done during the season since we had advance notice of his opting out. All the Cubs have to do is exchange figures with ARam's agent. That doesn't take a lot of time. If ARam hits the open market, it'll be b/c the Cubs just wouldn't pony up the dough, not b/c Hendry and Co. were spending too much time wining and dining potential managers. One would hope so. Then again, one might think that a lot of the evaulation work for potential managers could have been done during the season as well. But maybe only other teams who were contending had time for that while the season wound down.
  14. The Score has been playing soundbites all day of talks this morning with Peter Gammons and Steve Stone. Gammons believe Piniella would be the best hire for the Cubs. Stone thought Piniella was the best available manager, but wasn't sure of his fit with the Cubs in terms of the Cubs being able to turn it around soon. There's some speculation that Piniella wouldn't be interested absent a significant boost in payroll.
  15. My take is similar -- the longer this process drags on, the less likely Girardi is to be hired. I just hope that negotiations with Aramis won't take a back seat to all this.
  16. Hendry's in 'overdrive' and hopes to get it done within the next two weeks.
  17. Piniella's comments about the Nationals job being a better fit for a younger manager have been widely interpreted as him ruling out that job in advance.
  18. What it appears to me is that no one really knows what the hell the Nationals are planning to do. The Washington Post also says that Girardi is the Nationals front-runner, but notes that there are several candidates still in the mix.
  19. I guess the WBC + regular season wasn't enough for Z. Maybe he wants to work on his OF glovework? DH?
  20. Updated chicagosports.com article.
