  1. Urlacher was a demon unleashed.
  2. Thanks, Vance. Not surprising, since there were indications that Hendry wanted Rothschild to stay on.
  3. A little bit. But I'd take ARod driving in runs with his bat over Cesar driving them in with his glove. :)
  4. Are you sure, I haven't seen that reported anywhere? No, I'm just going on what I read on page 1,2 or 3 of this thread? :D But if it is true, I cannot believe it. It's been rumored, but there's nothing official. And for UMFAN: press conference is at noon tomorrow.
  5. So 3 yrs/$10M and a club option for a fourth year at $5M according to Cubs.com. And from the Quotes You Couldn't Make Up Department.
  6. Cubs.com suggests there's an option for a fourth year.
  7. Bruce's articles yesteday and today are both well worth reading. (as usual!) From Sunday's article.
  8. "I hope" does not settle well with me! Aramis = one big reason I was hoping Hendry would reach a managerial decision sooner rather than later.
  9. I'm guessing that's based off of when they think the NLCS will be over. Only the Trib would think someone would clinch tonight with the series at 2-2. I read someplace that Selig's office indicated they wouldn't have a problem with the Cubs announcing a hiring decision during the NLCS if they did so early in the day and ran it through his office first. That also may be factoring into the different timelines.
  10. Levine said on Saturday? that the rumor was 3 years, $3M/per.
  11. Thanks, Hoops, for the timeline. I want a feel-good update.
  12. I'm curious about how the Phil Rogers rumor that the Cubs don't want to pay "Dusty Baker money" for the next manager jives with the ~$115M payroll rumors. I understand that team payroll is not the same as manager/coaching staff payroll, but I wonder what the interplay is here.
  13. There is no truth at all to that part of the report. None whatsoever. Thanks, Bruce. It seemed so strange that McDonough would say "hire who you want as long as it's not that BRUCE BOCHY feller!" I'm still reading that it's not a done deal and that Piniella's salary demands could keep it from happening. While it appears Piniella is the top choice, I don't think it's certain he's gotten the job, at least not from all the sources. We'll change the thread title when an official announcement on the new manager is made.
  14. Sounds like he was waiting to see if Girardi would get hired here.
  15. He lacks sex appeal. (Make your own joke.) Indeed. It seems a little bit strange that the Powers That Be would say "it's your hire ... as long as you don't hire that Bruce Bochy!" surreal.
  16. A 115 million payroll would give the Cubs roughly 35-40 million to spend this offseason. Even if five million were eaten up in Ramirez's extension, there's still plenty to improve the team. :)
  17. Of the candidates reportedly in play, I'd prefer Bochy Brenly Girardi Piniella
  18. There's a scathing review of Piniella's tenure as D-Rays manager at Bleed Cubbie Blue.
  19. Levine was also saying that he expected the payroll to be upped more significantly than it has been in the past. He was the one who suggested that they could use the parking garage $$. Although his funding source may not be accurate, it would be promising if people were hearing that an increased payroll is likely.
