  1. Problem fixed, CT. You can turn that frown upside down! :D
  2. Everyone through this post should be showing up on the list on the first page now. I'm also drafting JonMDavis and LeftCoastCubFan because they were big producers last season. You & Roast were the catalysts to get this up and running! :) Welcome aboard! If anyone else thinks so, please say so. When we get a little closer to opening day, we'll get that process going. Based on last season, I'd say that the best way to get spot game thread starts is to be hanging around here the night before to notice when a game thread isn't up in time. And having a record of .500+ for good mojo. :)
  3. I just figured you were trying to sign up for two slots! Will do. I'll list everyone through sweetpeteman for now and update the list as more people sign up.
  4. RESERVED for other stuff :-k
  5. Suggestions for Starting Game Threads 1. In the subject header, please start by putting the date and the team matchup. (Example: 4/18 Reds at Cubs). If this information is not included, then expect the subject to be edited so that it is. Feel free to add anything else you deem appropriate for the game! 2. Please include the following information in the message text: --starting pitchers (some people prefer including this info in the title, too) --game time --tv information (just look on the cubs.com page for the information - no one expects you to run down all the various cable/satellite options) 3. Don't start the next game thread before the previous game has ended. 4. Do start the next game thread the afternoon/evening before game day ... people like to discuss pre-game thoughts. 5. When you become the Game Thread Starter, please send a private-message to whoever is replacing you On Deck. 6. If your turn is up and you won't be available to start the next game thread, please let one of the mods know. Thanks!

  7. If you're interested in starting a game thread for the 2005 regular season, feel free to sign up now by posting here. We can either let people go in the order that they sign up here or randomize the rotation before the season starts. If you have any preference, please say so when you sign up. There will be an opening day game thread starter announced soon. The guidelines etc will be re-posted in plenty of time for the season. The guidelines for last year are in the 2004 game starter thread if anyone wants to read through them. This signup is for regular season games. and also HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
  8. Dye, Wells and Hidalgo are still pending!! Stay tuned.
  9. CPatterson20 has picked 6 right destinations, but they must have been low-VORP.
  10. I yearn for my glory days, when I picked Vinny Castilla to the Nationals.
  11. hm. never thought of that ](*,) I don't get it. Maybe I don't either. :-k Why do you have an alliance? Many reasons...I'm just confused on what the alliance friends helped him figure out. Well, an alliance is an association to to further the common interests of the members. I assumed that someone who enters a contest is interested in winning it. If someone is in an alliance, it should be in the common interest of the alliance for an alliance member to win it. He said he was "surprised I didn't have to cahnge any [FA choices]." I said that perhaps his alliance friends helped him figure out the FA choices, since that would further the common interest of the alliance. That's my explanation for what I said. You said that there are "many reasons" to have an alliance. I'm curious as to what those reasons are.
  12. all I did was make sure I dodn't have more than 5 going to a team. and most of them were just random so I'm surprised I didn't have to cahnge any. Isn't it suprising? Maybe your alliance friends helped you figure it out. Isn't that what alliances are for? hm. never thought of that ](*,) I don't get it. Maybe I don't either. :-k Why do you have an alliance?

  14. I still think that Tim's solution is the most fair. It would seem that the benefit of naming the correct free agent before submitting (and getting a few more points) would be offset by the ripple effect of any FAs which were incorrectly named. For instance: I chose correctly for Castilla, but not Guzman ... so not only do I not get points for Guzman, but I also can't resubmit a subsitute FA choice for the White Sox. For anyone who spent some time charting out possibilities (not me!), getting one incorrect choice could lead to naming 2 or 3 other incorrect choices. And, if someone does name all the FA destinations correctly before they signed ... kudos to them, they deserve credit. Since Tim is weighing the results by VORP, it's most important to name the top FAs correctly, and none of them have been signed yet. I'll eat my hat if the whole contest hinges on Vinny Castilla going to Washington. For some reason, I thought the deadline was Sunday night, so I spent about a minute filling out the form.
  15. Am I the only person who is affected so far? Did anyone get Vizquel before he signed? I don't think people should get credit for signings that were made before they submitted the form (like Vizquel for me, I obviously just filled in the form), but should for those made afterwards. I can't remember where I had Benson going, but if he does sign with the Mets within the next couple of days, more people will be affected. I don't know what to do about the ripple effect mentioned; no easy answers. :?
  16. I didn't get to it until Sunday night. I wouldn't sweat the OV advantage too much.
  17. That home run was a BOMB! And, as BigBadB pointed out, he threw a STRIKE into 2B as well. The RF bleacher crowd gave him a few ovations, which he seemed to get a good chuckle out of. 8)
  18. Props to Dubois for giving me the only reason to cheer today! =D>
  19. I think they still have Fergie wrapped up under a long-term deal. At least he seems to have cautioned Prior on overdoing it with his achilles soreness -- that's definitely worth whatever he's being paid!
  20. Hello all! My apologies for failing to file a report from the convention -- I had a laptop, but we had problems getting the dialup connection going from the hotel (one problem being that we were being charged an outrageous hotel rate long-distance fee for a local call). I returned home Sunday evening to discover the power was out, so I had to relocate someplace warm last night. What misadventures! I'll thoroughly review the information that the others have posted and add any further observations after work tonight. I will say that I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Mark and talking his ear off for a good hour or so -- thanks for letting me pick your brain, Mark! I'm sorry that I missed meeting others that were there -- I wandered around where I thought the meeting place would be Saturday, but I was about 15 minutes late due to the overly-crowded convention sessions. We will be more organized next year. More later!
  21. Congrats, Hoops!!! :D
