  1. Yay! Let's hope he gets all 150m because it will mean he earned all of the incentives!
  2. Pretty sure Yu wouldn't want a no trade clause in his contract if he signs with Milwaukee. More like a you must trade me clause.
  3. I'll take "Who is Ervin Santana" for $500, Alex.
  4. I have it from a completely unreliable source that Yu Darvish is a member of this site and reads it daily. He hasn't signed yet because he finds this thread funny, and he never wants the funny to end.
  5. It's a 10 game suspension. We need to move on from Freeman. I'm not so sure he would even beat out Kwiatkoski after such a long layoff.
  6. i see a lot of cuts from that group.
  7. I can think of one. Dexter. Guess I shouldn't have said none.
  8. The real fascination at this point is that some team 3 months into the free agency process is all of a sudden going to wake up from a deep slumber and go all in on Darvish. With the early signees out of the way, he's been ripe for the taking for 2 solid months now and nothings happened. And if the Darvish signing is holding up many of the other offerings, this is just plain weird. I remember a handful of free agent signings during spring training in the past, but none seemed all that significant, like a major piece to a roster.
  9. Now that you mention it, I believe they were caught passing each other in separate airports once.
  10. This is just another ploy by his agent to up the offers that are already lying on the table. His agent stands to lose future clients if he fails to get anywhere close to the contract Darvish expects. Seems like everyone has played their cards and no one is budging.
  11. Or, let's be not as good of a team for the next 5 years because of an impatient month in January and two months before the season even begins. That'll surely show Darvish who is boss. It sucks that it's taking this long, but I'm actually kind of fascinated by what's transpiring with Darvish, Cobb and Arrieta. I'm not really worried, because I really see no possibility where the Cubs don't get one of those guys. But while all of them are still available, why settle for less than the best when the best is still an option?
  12. Oscar Gamble, the man with arguably the best afro in MLB history, has passed at age 68.
  13. And none of this waiting is making Theo antsy. He made his offer and he's sticking to it, and it is likely still the best offer he has received. Cobb probably got his offer from Theo also, and it's likely better than anyone else is offering, but the Cubs offer to Cobb is likely pending a decision by Yu. That's the way I see this entire thing from where I'm sitting. Theo probably sugarcoated his offer to Cobb stating that Yu probably won't accept the Cubs offer since they aren't willing to go more than 4 years. Theo seems to have most of the bargaining chips (cash and a playoff caliber team), and he knows he's getting one of the 3. He's just waiting out which one it will be. Heck, it might only be down to Darvish and Cobb. There is NO mention of Jake anywhere. He turned down previous extension offers, so unless Darvish and Cobb go elsewhere, I'm continue assuming it's down to Darvish and Cobb.
  14. This thread is worse than the Brian Roberts thread. Well, until we started talking about Worcestershire sauce.
  15. This certainly seems like a pretty unique situation where really talented players are not being signed. The Cubs seem to be the team with the most money to spend, and knowing that, attempting to be the guy the Cubs sign seems like a nice gameplan. I suppose there is enough money sitting around this offseason for everyone to get paid, but likely not at the amount they expected. That's probably a bit of the reason the Cubs haven't already signed Darvish. He wants a 5th or 6th year, but Theo has a lot of leverage because there doesn't seem to be many teams that can compete with them in dollars or years. I think Theo would be okay with Cobb if Darvish isn't willing to come down on his asking price, which only strengthens Theo's leverage. If Cobb signs somewhere, Theo might have to be the one that blinks.
  16. It's fun to watch this golf tournament, but it sucks to play that course. I'd play just about any other course before I would play Torrey Pines, and I get the discount rate being a SD resident.
  17. Welcome aboard!
  18. Oh boy your in for a real disappointment. I love how the moderators always keep these threads politics free. Why do the right wingers always use the wrong form of your/you're? I've been pondering this very same question for quite some time. I believe I have the answer, but it's not something I can post here.
  19. If I can get the Sunday Ticket package without having to buy exclusively from DirecTV, I might be interested.
  20. The way Ron Santo was treated is why you shouldn't care.
