He didn't allow a baserunner. He did allow a base jogger. Also, Edwin Encarnacion is clearly going to be in Dusty's doghouse if he continues clogging the bases with walks 8 times a week.
Can anyone explain to me how Edwin Encarnacion can draw 8 walks in the first week of the season with Dusty Baker as his manager? Or how about that Johnny Cueto can be pulled with only 92 pitches thrown?
My bats aren't real lively, but with a 1400 point limit I could still have a nice staff to start the season with: Brandon Webb Matt Cain James Shields Johnny Cueto Carlos Marmol Matt Holliday Stephen Drew Geovany Soto Jacoby Ellsbury Andy LaRoche
Since everyone loves to hear me talk, I'll take this opportunity to do just that. Week 1: Lots of great matchups. Several games won't be decided until late today. Very cool. Pitcher's Scoring: I like the new changes, Juan. I really didn't plan on promoting Cueto this week, but Pedro's injury and RJ being pushed back a week pretty much forced it. But now that he's here, he's here to stay. MLB needs to get their head out of their ass on scheduling. Global warming is real, but geez. Why on Earth is Arizona starting in Colorado? Why is Tampa in New York? I could go on and on with the stupid matchups in week #1, but I won't.
This one is REALLY far fetched, since Montanez isn't in the organization anymore (last I knew he was in the Orioles' system). I think what he was going for there was trades of Cubs draft picks for guys who were drafted after the Cubs draft picks.
I thought the trade was pretty fair. On an unrelated note, I just watched a very wierd play. Furcal triples and Russell Martin is at the plate. Martin pops one up over by the Padres dugout. Josh Bard is headed for the dugout and goes into a slide to make the catch. While in his slide, he crosses over the top step of the dugout, while simultaneously making an outstanding catch. Bard jumps up and runs towards the plate to keep Furcal from scoring. Brilliant play by Bard. End result: Umpires get together and decide that Bard's leg crossed over into the dugout before the ball was caught. Bard is charged with an error and Furcal is advanced home on the play. That might be the best error I see all year.
I was just admiring the batting averages in Oakland's box score as of 9pm PST on Friday night. Obviously the batting averages are accumulative with all their other games: Buck- .000 Ellis- .059 Barton- .200 Sweeney- .182 Cust- .154 Crosby- .294 Hannahan- .250 Suzuki- .375 R. Sweeney- .375
Player A: .271 .312 .372 641 major league AB's at age 22 Player B: .203 .240 .335 1031 major league at bats at age 22 Player C: .256 .293 .402 561 major league at bats at age 22 Player D: .233 .318 .414 508 major league at bats at age 22 Player A) Ryne Sandberg Player B) Sammy Sosa Player C) Aramis Ramirez Player D) Derrek Lee All of these guys should have been dumped by their respective teams, too!
A whopping 683 plate appearances between AA and AAA at the ripe young age of 21/22, while also logging games at the major league level in 2005 in every month of the season during his only AAA season before playing SS regularly in 2006.
I think he finishes 2nd to Cueto ............................... I think he finishes a very distant 2nd to Cueto. 30 wins- 0 losses, 300 K's- 0 BB's and 0.14 WHIP
