Moving Soriano to third in the order is not going to force pitchers to magically throw him a significantly higher number of fastballs. Besides, if you're that worried about his OBP, why on earth do you want him batting third? If you're going to move him down, why not just move him down to fifth or sixth? Exactly. Soriano will swing at garbage whether he's hitting 1st, 3rd, 6th or 9th. Moving him around in the batting order is not going to change what he will swing at, and pitcher's aren't going to all of a sudden throw him beefy, middle of the plate fastballs because he's hitting 3rd rather than 1st. It's ridiculous to even consider that they would. Soriano has a major league contract because of what he can do to a garbage pitch. The number of golf ball swings Soriano has put over the outfield wall over his career pales only to Vladmir Guerrero. The difference between Guerrero and Soriano at the plate is Guerrero puts more balls in play, hence the better overall stats.
