I think some people hear the word "luck" and they immediately think you are comparing the overachieving performances with Walt Jocketty walking down the street and randomly finding a $20 bill on the ground. I think what you mean is that the overachievers are exceeding even the organization's expectations. It's not unfounded blind luck, but it is luck in the sense that even Walt and Co. had no idea they would be this good. The talent may have been there (Al Reyes and Carp have always had good stuff and Nunez has talent) but there was no reason to believe these guys would ever realize their ability.

Chris Carpenter has zero postseason starts. Therefore you have no information to back up your argument, therefore you are uninformed. Sorry, but that's the way it is. Are you trying to tell me that MOST regular season stars disappear in the playoffs. That's once again ignorant, because MOST regular season stars are stars in the postseason as well. I'm not denying there are chokers, but more often than not, a player is the same player in the postseason as he is in the regular season. I didn't say he was a playoff ace. Also, if you don't want people calling him an ace, how about you play by your same rules and not call him "not a big playoff pitcher" when you have even less evidence to back up that statement. Yeah, no one could hit that backstop quite like Ankiel could. That was amazing. He must've worked on that for years to get that good. :P If Rick Ankiel's name was never mentioned again ever I wouldn't be disappointed. Talk about a soap opera. Yeah it gets annoying sometimes. I don't get it, but it seems like my fellow Cardinals fans sometimes have a chip on their shoulder towards Cubs fans. I don't get why they feel insecure when you look at the team's records, but for some reason they do.

Why are injuries such a touchy subject? I think it's fairly obvious that the Cardinals rotation has been blessed with two amazingly healthy years outside of Carp's nerve damage. I also think it's obvious that the Cub's rotation has not been as lucky. They lost two of the top 10 starters in baseball before the season started. MEMO TO CARDINALS FANS: Stop trying to act like missionaries for the Cardinals plz. It's fine to argue your point if you believe it, but it seems like a few of you are over here to convince Cub nation that the Cardinals organization is some kind of superior being. The fact is, they are getting lucky with a lot of their players. This isn't saying these players should suck, it's just saying they are overachieving from their past performances. Who is to say they won't keep it up? Who is to say they won't all regress? No one. I think most of you understand this, but still get offended when the Cubs fans insinuate that they should and will suck once again. Why shouldn't they think that? They have just as much proof for their points as we do for ours. Just stop trying to make people give the Cardinals organization any credit. Their performance may warrant it, but if a poster here doesn't want to acknowledge it, that's their right and privelege as a Cub fan.

When somebody has put up the numbers Derrek Lee has put up, there is no possible way they could lose "hands down" to anyone. Especially coupled with the injuries to the Cubs two top starters. Derrek has done everything in his power to make his team a contender; more than any other player in the league according to the statistics. I'd vote for Al, but hey like you I'm biased. Especially with all the injuries to the Cardinals lineup I think he deserves it. I just think it's about as close as any MVP discussion in recent memory. You cannot discount D's year in any way.

That was the point of my nonexistent sample size comment. He has zero postseason appearances. It strikes me as blatantly homerish and ignorant for you to just assume that someone who is the second best pitcher in baseball this year won't be a good playoff performer. Especially when he hasn't showed any signs of struggling under pressure. In games against divisional rivals, overhyped head-to-head matchups with cy young rivals, and when his team was having a losing skid he has excelled. Not to mention his record against projected playoff teams (see: Clemens V. Carpenter thread). There are (how can I put this politely) uninformed fans such as yourself on every team's message board. Don't take the few isolated ramblings of a few morans as the truth. That's why they play games live as opposed to asking some ridiculous internet magnate who should win the series. We outplayed them in St. Louis, they outplayed us in Houston. Not uncommon with two nearly evenly matched teams. You keep demanding stats to go against your argument to prove you wrong. How come you haven't had any stats to back up your preposterous stance?

Mulder Tonight 9inn, 0r, 5h, 2bb, 4k. Classic good Mulder. He was fluid, efficient, and had a groundball ratio of 18-4. He induced 4 double plays. In short he looked really good. He's got 14 wins and his era is now down to a respectable 3.87. But this is what gets me. Mulder would appear to be maddeningly inconsistent. But look deeper and you'll see he has been a model of consistency. What you say? Let me explain. Mulder - Day Starts: 10 W-L: 1-5 ERA: 7.57 INN: 54.2 K: 33 BB: 21 OPP AVG: .355 Horrendous Mulder - Night Starts: 15 W-L: 13-1 ERA: 1.53 INN: 96.2 K: 48 BB: 32 OPP AVG: .237 Second only to Rocket's 1.24 night era. He has consistently sucked in day starts and consistently owned some fools in night starts. What's up with this? Historically he hasn't been any worse in day games than night games, but this year he has been two VERY different pitchers. I guess it's just one of those unexplainable quirks. The only solace I take is that most playoff games and every World Series game take place at night.
