  1. Edmonds may look like a baby to the umps and opposing teams, but he treats his teammates and fans with respect. Jason Marquis and Julian Tavarez are the requisite babies on the Cards.
  2. That would be sweet. Other than Marquis' performance/attitude of course.
  3. I don't hate Z. He's just a baby IMO. You're right in that he has been better this year.
  4. I don't hate Z. He's just a baby IMO. You're right in that he has been better this year.
  5. Not to be cliche, but Z needs to play for the name on the front of the jersey and the guys behind him. So what if he doesn't like Dusty. This is just another in the long line of immature moves by Carlos.
  6. Shoot. That means all my arguments are invalid because I've only gotten to see like 10 games.
  7. They should hire Jim Leyland IMO. GREAT manager. Great at working with younger talent as well as established super stars. Tony LaRussa said he has never seen a manager better at recognizing when a pitcher needs to be pulled or needs to be left in. Best p staff manager he's ever seen. He's old, he's experienced. Ask the Marlins how hiring a guy like that turned out for them.
  8. Doug Mientkiewicz > Todd Helton>Derrek Lee>>pretty much the rest of the NL first basemen, including Pujols. I do agree though that Pujols is underrated as a first basemen by the guy who said he is slightly above average. He's good man. He's not as good as Lee and Helton because he's not as quick, but he is just as good at making the plays he can get to. He also is fantastic making the stretch and scoop. He's definitely getting better.
  9. If Chipper and Edmonds (if he gets a ring) have some more productive years, they'll both get in. Here's why: Players overrate Edmonds because of his highlights and reputation in CF. Also, by the time he retires, ESPN analysts will insist on doing what they always do and try to rank him in the baseball pantheon and as usual they will do it with little historical perspective and overrate him. I think Chipper is a lock mainly because he is the everyday player's face of the Braves incredible dynasty. Glavine, Maddux, and Smoltz will get in, but at least one everyday player will and that will be Larry.
  10. lol. Actually yeah, I am being serious. You cite Oakland as an example. ONE example. Here are my examples: Yankees, Braves, Cardinals, Red Sox, Angels, Astros, Giants. Unless of course you thought it was just a coincidence they are always in contention. It's paying a lot of money to the right guys (Yankees recent decline and the Mets are examples of why it doesn't always work). Dude I'm not saying you're wrong, I was just saying that without a significant revenue stream, it's definitely an uphill battle and the odds are against them. When the Cubs hire the right manager and whoever is holding the GM role (Hendry or replacement) start building a bullpen and spending money on the right guys they could easily win it every year. Compound that with the fact that the Cardinals will have Albert Pujols and Scott Rolen together for at least the next 7 years maybe more and some promising pitching talent in the minors and their very competent management team and it will be very difficult for the Brewers to put it together.
  11. I agree with every one of your picks except the D-Backs. I can honestly say I have never seen a more pathetic division contender. Worse that the Royals 3 years ago. WAY worse. I've seen them live about 10 times this year and they are not a playoff team. San Diego can't possibly lose this division.
  12. See my Cabrera-Pujols thread in Rants. I am a very objective, rational person, but when it comes to Albert I cannot budge.
  13. I don't know. With all the DL time, Edmonds would be the only legit threat in the entire lineup. I still think that barring anything dramatic, Pujols will get it by name recognition and reputation alone. I also wouldn't be surprised to see him win a GG by the same merit. Same reason Clemens will get the CY as long as he wins 16 or more.
  14. Superstation, smooperstation, right? Huh? Where are the Brewers going to get the revenue to keep up with higher payroll teams like STL, Cubs, or Houston? The Braves had the benefit of a huge, nationwide TV deal. Not so with the Brew-Crew.
  15. There it is right there. Die Reinsdorf.
  16. Not really. The ownership group is purchasing the majority share in KTRS. They'll be able to control the content and subject matter. The affiliate network basically renders KMOX's higher signal argument moot. There are local affiliates to cover every area of Cardinals territory (Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, etc). These days not a lot of new fans come because of the radio station like in the past. Now it's all generational or ESPN exposure. Albert Pujols highlights are going to recruit more Cards fans than KMOX today. The station rights, new stadium, championship contending team, and maketable stars like Pujols make it an extremely profitable sale for the group that came on board with Ray Lankford as it's most recognizable player.
  17. I'm glad you were able to admit that. Rather big of you dude. You've never been to Wrigley? Dang. I think it would be harder to be a fan of your team and never make the pilgrimage than to be the guy who lives walking distance from the stadium and goes all the time. That's dedication. Also, what is up with all the highway tolls in your state? I didn't know they were there and had no change on me driving through. What a pain.
  18. I have a feeling Albert will get it even if Lee continues to lead in those categories. The media is finally starting to realize that he has been deserving the last 5 years if there was no Bonds. Much like gold gloves, they are going to give it to whoever they are more familiar with.
  19. Morris is up tonight, so if there are any lingering feelings at all, fools are gonna get popped. If he doesn't bean anyone, then it was nothing more than a few pitches that got away.
  20. Oh I agree completely. I hope no one thought by my post that I was saying Ozzie shouldn't be there because he should. I was just admitting as a Cards fan that he wasn't the best all around SS of his generation.
  21. Isn't he married to Heidi Klum? That more than qualifies him for "awesome" status in my book.
  22. Settle down bovine. You didn't answer my question. You also clearly felt instigated by my post. It wasn't meant to be that way. I just want somebody to objectively tell me why they think the Cubs would have any kind of a chance in the playoffs. But kudos for dropping that reference to last year's world series sweep. I could of course mention that we were in the World Series when you were in full Bears mode or whatever NFL team you follow, but that would be stooping to your level and I will not allow myself to do that. Oh yeah, Cy Carp didn't get anything handed to him during the WS unless that was some nachos or an ice pack for his nerve damaged bicep.
  23. I'm convinced that baseball leaked the Palmeiro steroid test immediately after Sandberg's induction/speech in a conspiracy. Ryno agreed to publicly condemn juicers as long as MLB fingered his ex's ex-lover as a user. Ryno is a master. He could've exacted his revenge for Raffy doing his wife a long time ago. But no, that would be too easy; too amateur. He bided his time. He let RP pile up the stats and accolades; the fame and the fortune. As soon as Palmeiro finally started to get the respect his numbers commanded and got the 3000/500, Ryno pulled the rug right out from under him and smiled as he landed disgraced on his pathetic, needle-pricked butt. Revenge isn't something you can rush. A proper revenge takes patience and planning.
  24. I don't want anyone to think I'm trying to instigate something here, but what actually makes you think the Cubs would have what it takes to make it out of the first round? Your team really doesn't scare anybody. Last year I understood that statement when Cubs fans would drop the the standby "If we get in, we'll be tough to beat" because your pitching staff was healthier (IE - Wood) and you hat a scary clutch hitter Alou. Not to mention Nomah healthy and Sammy still counted for something. I realize Nomar will be back by playoff time, but I don't see him being anywhere near to his normal self. Too much rust and trepidation. Prior is a scary prospect, but not as much if he's going up against a Clemens/Carpenter/Willis/Smoltz/Peavy #1 guy. I'd take the Astros, Braves, and Cardinals rotation in a playoff series over the Cubs any day of the week. The only team the Cubs would scare IMO is whoever comes out of the west. Again, I'm not trying to be a homer or instigate anything, that's just how I see it. Two hitters and two pitchers that inspire any kind of fear.
