  1. This per ESPNNews. Never thought I'd see the day where Scott Podsednik beat out Derek Jeter in any kind of fan poll. Oh well. This is the group I voted for. An Astro and a White Sox player. Sorry Cub Nation.
  2. You'd have to ask somebody who actually saw the post. I wasn't a poster there yet, but have heard the incident referenced many times by some of the older posters. I think what happened is Dunc got really ticked and started cussing some of the faction guys out. For all you Cub fans, the faction is a group that tries to get Tony and Dunc run out of town. They even hired a plane banner saying that Tony and Duncan sucked during spring training a couple of years ago. Duncan's post was ridiculous. He was defending some move that he pressured Walt to make (CoCo Crisp for Chuck Kittaen I believe) and was getting ripped on for the obvious stupidity of the trade. Apparently he is a sensitive and tempermental guy because he just went off. Then the moderator got involved and banned a bunch of people and I believe Bernie Miklacz let it leak that the guy was Duncan. His SN was DDuncan or some other obvious moniker.
  3. Huh? Ichiro hit .353/.460/.522 over his career in Japan compared to .277/.333/.387 for Taguchi. Note I said POOR MAN's Ichiro. Maybe I should have said extremely poor, on welfare, declaring bankruptcy, lost it all in tech stocks, lives in a box and has all his earthly possessions in a shopping cart, and walks around mumbling that the cat threw all the dirt in the lake version of Ichiro. They both won multiple GG's and I was mainly referring to their hitting style. Like how I said "always trying to lob the ball the other way." Much like Ichiro. If you're looking for an argument here that So is near the player Ichiro is, you're looking in the wrong place.
  4. Not to be a suckup, but that's why this is the best baseball forum I've ever read. Your moderators do their job and actually take pride in running a great forum.
  5. It's always bad times when someone affiliated with the team visits a message board. Dave Duncan visited Cards Talk once anonymously, posted something (I think something positive about Chuck Finley but I could be wrong) and he got ripped to shreds by a ton of posters. When they found out it was Dunc, the anti-Duncussa or LaDuncan (whichever you prefer) faction came out of the woodwork and made fun of him to no end. It was ugly.
  6. Taguchi - When he first came here from Japan, he was really weak and could hardly get the ball out of the infield. In Japan he was a poor man's Ichiro, always trying to lob the ball the other way. The reason Ichiro had so much success is because he was strong enough to pull the ball. Since his foray in Memphis a couple years ago, So has really gotten stronger and is now a good mistake/pull hitter. Right Farnsy? Nunez - I can't really explain this one. Mabry - Don't sell Johnny Mabe's short. He could always hit on the ML level. He had some decent years as a starter in his first stint with the Cards (.307, .297, .284). He struggled a bit with other teams, but since coming back has really embraced the bench role.
  7. Yesterday at the BOB he was hitting 93 on about every fastball, occasionally 92. The cutter was at 85, and the curve at 75-77. In '01 (the career year) he was a two pitch pitcher with the big 75-77 curve and the fastball mostly around 94 and occasionally hitting 95-96.
  8. It is safe to say that that is the single most ignorant, unreasearched, biased, moronic, and just plain wrong sentences I have ever read. Albert Pujols has received acclaim as being the best hitter in baseball by being so disciplined at the plate. He is basically a line drive/gap hitter who is strong enough to line about 45 into the stands a year. Last year he hit 46 homeruns and struck out only 52 times ( ). Does that sound like someone swinging for the fences? Also, Derrek is a great fielder, but Albert will surprise you guys. He is a very very good fielder.
  9. I'd like to sign him to a 4 year deal for around 32 million. That would be ideal. I absolutely want him to end his career in the Cardinals uniform.
  10. This last offseason saw more malcontent and criticism from Cardinals fans than any I can ever remember. Having such a successful season end the way it did was anti-climactic to say the least. That ending led to endless speculation as to the competency of Cardinals management, coaching, ownership, and players. We need an ace...Tony is the werst managir evar to manaj a basebol teem...ALBERT POOJOLZ IZ THE ONLEE PLAYIR TO KEEP CUZ WE GOT SWEPT AND LALOSER IS GAY BUT ONE TIME WHITEY HERZOG WON A CHAMPEEONCHIP AND WALT DOES NOT DOO A GOOD JOB... You get the point. Even after all the speculation of trade scenarios to land an ace, the perceived instability at catcher, and the Edgar Renteria saga, no player was criticized, speculated upon, or considered "done" more than Matt Morris. Even the most optimistic supporters of Morris couldn't have predicted the amount of success he has had so far this season. After offseason shoulder surgery landed him on the DL until April 20th, no one really expected him to be anything more than a shadow of his former 2001-2003 self. At this point last season, Morris had gave up 24 bombs and 110 hits in 117 2/3 innings over 17 starts. He walked 32 and struck out 72. In 15 starts this season, Morris has struck out 70, walked 16, given up six home runs, and pitched 96 2/3 innings. He has allowed only one home run in his last 57 innings. Obviously, he has pitched very well. There is no question that he had been pitching with a torn labrum all last season. The pain caused him to lower his arm slot which decreased his velocity and took some of the sharpness off his curve. Pitching through pain showed the heart and toughness he has. To come back this year on a one year, cheap, and incentive laden contract shows some pride and loyalty to the organization. The question is, as an outsider, what do the Cub fans think of his performance this year, and do you think the Cardinals should make him their number one offseason priority? What kind of contract would you give him? Discuss.
  11. Jim Edmonds is a native Californian, but he has a home in Houston. It's called Minute Maid Ballpark. Sorry, I know that was unnecessary, but I couldn't help myself. Since reading publicized reports that Dunn may be traded to the Cards, I have developed a serious hetero man crush and have become jealous of all other suitors.
  12. Oswalt has never been an All-Star?! Did I read that right?
  13. I'd care and feel sorry for him if I thought he actually cared. I've never seen a more aloof baseball player.
  14. Wow. I didn't know Hafner was having that good of a year.
  15. That's why Lee is starting with Eckstein. Not all of us are 100% homers, just 2/3 apparently. The funny thing about it is that a ton of Cards fans voted for Lee, Rolen, and Eckstein when voting for Albert @ 1B would be the most defendable of the three positions.
  16. Sorry. I can't stand it when I'm talking about baseball and somebody inevitably brings up something like: "How come the 'BEST FANS IN BASEBALL' give (insert Cards player and bush league play here) a pass, but if another team did that to them they act like it's a capital offense?" I hate it when people who don't claim to be the best fans in baseball take crap for it. I've never made a claim that me and my fellow Cardinals fans are the best fans in baseball. Most Cardinals fans know better than to make such an unsubstatiated claim. Not only is it pretentious, but it's impossible to determine who has the best fans in baseball. So what if we cheer an opposing player's great play; some would construe that as a soft streak as opposed to appreciation of good baseball. There are Cards fans who read articles or hear media members use that moniker and they believe it and start talking trash about it. Then they also jump on the excessive curtain call bandwagon and start voting David Eckstein to all-star games.
  17. Cardinals fans will react one of three ways. 1 - It was a bush league play, and if A-Rod or Robert Fick (that should hit closer to home) are going to get torn up for it so should he. That's what I think. Then again, I'm not the world's biggest Larry Walker fan. 2 - He's just being a sly veteran gamer. 3 - SHUT UP SCRUBS FAN YOU SUK END R STUPID LOOSERZ! Obviously there are rational fans, homer fans, and idiots in all fan bases. I hate how much crap Cardinals fans take for calling themselves "the best fans in baseball" almost as much as I hate the Cards fans who actually think they are the best fans in baseball.
  18. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=troll Troll = To patrol (an area) in search for someone or something. Baiting basically the same thing, so yeah he is trolling. BTW - check out the sentence example for the second definition. Creepy. Slang. To patrol (an area) in search for someone or something: “ [Criminals] troll bus stations for young runaways”
  19. I don't understand why he didn't wait to negotiate his deal. He obviously did the Cubs a huge favor on that one. Always nice to see a superstar give a home team discount.

  23. Or like Edmonds two years ago injures himself in the derby.
