  1. I think it's just a Uribe experiment. They know Tad will do what he does anywhere but are trying to maximize Uribe's performance. Maybe the change in order will change his philosophy.
  2. Nobody is telling you they never try to, what they are saying is that in the end, the theory that 1s face 1s all the time is absolutely bogus. No matter how hard you try, you can't do it. The schedule makes it impossible. Managers might try and matchup against a certain rival that way, but even then, they'll be lucky just to be able to get their 1 vs a top 3 guy, let alone the actual #1. Furthermore, team's real #1s often times aren't labeled #1 because baseball people are slow to pick up on change. I never said that they try to do it all the time. The fact is, Brandon Webb will face guys like Peavy and Schmidt more than anyone else in their rotation. I'm not saying it is a huge factor, but it is a factor.
  3. The D-Backs improved by 26 games last year. They were not similar. I meant that this year's team is very similar to 2004's. Not last year's. This isn't really true, other than the first few starts of the year, and the first few starts of the 2nd half, days off tend to jumble up rotation slots, and each pitcher matches up with different spots. Are you telling me managers never align their rotation to give their team the best chance to win against an opposing team's best pitcher? Are you also telling me that the role of being the "number one" guy doesn't bring more pressure with it?
  4. He may have been 14-12 on a sub .500 team last year, but he was also 7-16 on a very similar sub .500 team the previous year. Brandon Webb is good. I'll give him that. He has an incredible sinker. I've never seen such a heavy ball before (other than the sinker his repetoire seemed underwhelming to me). That being said, his team isn't going to score a lot of runs, he doesn't strike that many guys out, and he is the only pitcher on that staff worth a crap. He's going to be going up against a lot of team's number one starters. That's going to hurt him. His era last year was 3.54. In his 7-16 2004 season his era was 3.59. He seems to have gotten better in some categories and regressed in other in his two full seasons. I just don't think he will do it, especially with the team around him.
  5. Maybe we have two different definitions of what it means to be a favorite. I would define favorite as one of the top 2 candidates. Here is how I'd shake it out. 1 - Jake Peavy: Era title two years ago. Strike out title last year. Pitcher's park. 2 - Chris Carpenter: Incumbent. Still has good offense and defense behind him. Bull pen's performance could hurt chances. Have to wait and see how those question marks are answered. 3 - Roy Oswalt: Consistently dominating pitcher. Young. Racks up innings, K's, and wins. 4 - Carlos Zambrano - Young. Overpowering. Innings horse. High K rate. Much improved bullpen. Run support could be a problem. 5 - Dontrelle Willis - Team sucks. Last year unprecedented. Dark horses: Prior, Hudson, Sheets, Pedro, Smoltz, and Duke.
  6. Uribe is batting 2nd as of now he said. Apparently the theory is to pu Uribe there in hopes of him embracing his new role and being more selective. Then Tad Iguchi's power numbers will go up in his new run creating role. I don't necessarily think this is a terrible move, because if Uribe sucks they can always switch he and Iguchi up again.
  7. As in Brandon Webb? No chance. A strong candidate for sure, but not a favorite. He hasn't put together a Cy caliber year yet. Wait for him to do that before he is a preseason favorite. I don't see why not, and I sure hope so, but his odds of repeating last season aren't great.
  8. This thread is ludicrous.
  9. Don't tell anyone, but I voted for da Arli$$ because I don't want him to cut off my chix 4 free. Really da Randy is funnier.

  11. NO QUESTION! DA ARLI$$!
  12. someone here dropped out...who wants in?
  13. When does all-star voting start? Better get going Vance!
  14. I'm pumped for the battle of czechloslovakia. Should be an exciting game.
  15. Best at each position not best possible team, but do what you will. I wouldn't deny any of you your creativity.
  16. I don't know if this is related, but some Cardinals were removed from player's jerseys. http://www.stltoday.com/blogs/sports-bird-land/2006/02/fowl-ploy/
  17. Come on people, none of this shuffling around crap. This isn't put together the baddest fantasy team by switching positions. For example, I have more love for Adam Dunn than most people but Albert is clearly the best first baseman. That doesn't mean I stick one of them in the outfield.
  18. SP - Oswalt SP - Carpenter SP - Zambrano SP - Sheets SP - Prior RP - Lidge RP - Isringhausen RP - Dempster RP - Turnbow C - Barrett 1B - Pujols 2B - Weeks 3B - Rolen SS - Lopez OF - Dunn OF - Edmonds OF - Bay I'm sure there are some disagreements. Weeks is on what I think he'll do potentially this season; Rolen contingent on health (yes the D makes up for the O difference in my mind). EDIT - Inserted Jason Bay because for some reason I forgot about my second favorite non-cardinal.
  19. Zambrano Buherle Prior (would be one if healthy) Contreras Garcia Any list involving Cubs pitchers are relative because if Wood and Prior are healthy they are unquestionably the top 2, but obviously... I put Contreras over Garcia because of his second half last year; he could easily suck again.
  20. As would most trades involving young Miguel.
  21. If Lee gives you guys the 'ole hometown discount, its only a matter of time before you go all Cardinals fan and expect every FA to magically do the same. Then you start to feel like you deserve the preferential treatment. Then when people don't sign it isn't because your ownership didn't want to spend the money, it's because the guy who didn't sign is greedy and a horribler person. It's good times.
  22. SEXUAL MADDUX. http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20060218/capt.9b0d5b91597c445384322f1cf17550db.cubs_spring_training_baseball_aznh106.jpg
  23. USA needs some young scorers desperately. DiPietro has had a very good tourney, but they just can't score for him. Hopefully the young guns coming up like Kessel can replace Roenik, Hull, etc.
  24. They need him for the Cardinals' beer pong team. They want to take the crown that was held for so many years by the Braves, but now that Furcal is a Dodger, St. Louis can make a run at it. rumor have us bringing Wade Boggs out of retirement. It's over if that happens.
  25. Yeah he got hacked. He is no longer on my friends list. Here is a pic that I posted at a board different than this one: http://myspace-467.vo.llnwd.net/00448/76/46/448186467_l.jpg
