to play devil's advocate, why should someone even cheer for a team/player as opposed to boo? Players/teams do both good and bad things on the field. Both responses are reactions to these performances. PLayers/teams realize that, in either case, the cheering or booing is not a lifetime gift/sentence. If they perform in the opposite fashion, they receive the opposite response. Players/teams are highly paid professionals who are highly-paid because people are passionate about sports ($40-80 tickets = passion). Passion is obviously present in just about every seat in the house. Emotional responses are to be expected. Why should one type of response (over the other) be demonized, belittled, even desired to be outlawed? Maybe I'm wrong, I'm quite open to it, but I'd love to see a serious argument against this (because I do believe one exists :))
