  1. I know, but it certainly is icing on the cake that Vitters can potentially fill a spot we'll need down the road. Sure, but that's a very different statement
  2. I didn't see that on there. I heard there is a 6th year player option @ 19m. Can anyone confirm? Nothing yet. Press Conference is in 35 minutes. (where) can this press conference be seen? WGN? Internet?
  3. Sorry, but you put your reputation out on the line when you post without confirmation. Owned. In hindsight, I agree with all three posts above :)
  4. http://boards.chicagobears.com/photos/jerans_gallery/default.aspx That is his entire gallery. There is one picture for every Bears game last year and this preseason. I'm not sure where the Cubs one is. LOL at the lions one . . .
  5. definitely. there are a couple photos there (just as he's swinging the bat) where you can see the first base coach... he stands there, hardly changing posture at all, seemingly just watching. the frame rate is probably not fair to his reaction, but it was still kinda funny to see.
  6. Slightly twisted his ankle coming out of the box after a swing, late in the game. Thanks to you and CubColtPacer. sounds like an accusation!! ;)
  7. Actually, save one inning, he had a good start today. but he had that inning, and it wasn't a good start. except for the two home runs lilly gave up last night, he had a good day! Yea if a pitcher gives up 6 runs in 1 inning, and then doesnt allow anymore runs, is that considered a good start? Believe me, Im hoping Marquis can give up 4 or less the rest of the year, but Im not counting on it. is it good for his team? certainly not -- runs are runs, no matter in what manner of bunching they're scored. But I think it's worth noting that a single bad inning (or single bad pitch) doomed the starter's stat line.
  8. my amateur opinion is that it didn't look serious. Looked like he just turned his anke akwardly and probably felt better after pacing a couple times in the dugout. IMO, he came out as a precaution, especially as it was in the middle of a blowout. but we'll see . . .
  9. The Cubs believed Wieters would have commanded a major league contract and they weren't willing to give him that - it was one of the main reasons they passed on him. but he didn't command a major league contract. I don't really care what the reason is, the Cubs passed on the best hitter in the draft, and that pisses me off. Maybe objective analysis isn't your thing... ;)
  10. In my mind, there's no doubt the streak is intact, but I can't come up with the clear explanation of "why" . . .
  11. Funny thing is, the Cardinals "hot streak" is 7-7 in their last 14 games, and are just 10 days removed from a 5 game losing streak to the Pirates and Nationals. They have simply crept up on us due to the Cubs and Brewers being absolutely pathetic the last month or so. Hilarious. We are so handing this damn thing away on a silver platter. I'm sure Brewer fans feel the same too. Next year let's stay 8 1/2 back until mid August before starting our run, it'll work out better. I hate the brewers, don't worry, I promise :) but anyone else feeling a sad kinship with them the last few days? I'd much rather the crew win the division than the birds... and it seems like we're both giving it away to the worst possible option :( oh well, still a month and a half.
  12. That's just ignorant. 2003: 214.0 IP 136 ERA+ 2004: 209.7 IP 165 ERA+ 2005: 223.3 IP 131 ERA+ 2006: 214.0 IP 136 ERA+ 2007: 168.0 IP 116 ERA+ He's consistently pitched 200+ innings per year, put up an era+ in the 130's (with the exception of a down year this year, which is balanced out by his spectacular 04) That statement makes no sense. How can a player's performance 3 years ago make up for current struggles? '04 is lost & gone forever, who cares what happened back then? He's been very good every year of his career, with the exception of this year when he's been pretty good (based on OPS+). You seem to think that he lost his mental capacity to be consistent in the MLB this last offseason... '04 matters as much as '03, '05, an '06 because it shows he does have this mental capacity. That said, equating "mental capacity" with consistency needed to play in this league is silly, IMO. Yeah, I don't know if I would use the words "mental capacity" exactly. I would more just say there is something about Z that prevents him from becoming one of the very top pitchers in the league, and I'm not sure exactly what it is. Certainly the talent is there, and on any given night he can pitch as well as any top pitcher. i dunno. that's impossibly hard to quantify -- his potential to be truly premier. More importantly, I'm not sure it matters. Look at those ERA+ (lol, i called it OPS+ in my last post ) numbers, look at his raw stats -- he's very good and he's on our team. Let's embrace that for as long we have him. Maybe we consider this "potential" thing later on, if he demands Premier Pitcher money... but that's another topic for another time :)
  13. That is amazing. :) pyt. record of 58-63... a "luck" rating of 10.

  15. what a strange post...
  16. heck, this is the Central. Let's shoot for both :D
  17. i wouldn't mind a bit of a delay, myself, as I don't get off work until 9:30. Or maybe I would, depending on how the game gets going . . .
  18. fixed/consolidated 1. Always score more runs then you allow fixed/consolidated even more improved
  19. there's a leap in logic if I ever saw one. topped off with condescension. not nice.
  20. fixed/consolidated
  21. Career's one thing. If it gets really out of hand . . . well, Kirby Puckett and Eric Gregg come to mind . . .
  22. Sounce: link Oh wow...he's gonna get a Ron Artest-like suspension for that. If a player wields a bat in attacking a pitcher, a Ron Artest-like suspension won't cut it (If I'm in charge, that is). He'll join Pete Rose and Joe Jackson.
  23. In other words, one season's worth of Jay Payton. If the Cubs, Nationals/Expos, Pirates, Royals, Reds, and Tampa Bay didn't exist, the Orioles would be the worst franchise in MLB. fixed.
