  1. Alfonso wants to play better when he's actually playing for something? I'll take it. Now, no player should "not try hard," but I don't think that's he's talking about anyway.
  2. For the record, you don't have to be an announcer, scout or former player to be able to correctly peg a major league baseball player. Thinking otherwise is incredibly arrogant. Ryan Theriot is an acceptable SS on a team with an above average offense. On this current team, he's replaceable. Not because people don't like him, but because his production at his position makes him a candidate to be upgraded. As long as you don't think Ron is actually saying "you have to be an announcer, scout or former player to be able to correctly peg a major league baseball player." -- because I don't see it -- then I agree. I also appreciate Ron being on the board, a great deal.
  3. I've heard him interviewed before -- very entertaining. And I loved him in Major League. And he certainly has a great reputation. But I agree -- in my experience of hearing him call actual games, he's just bland and, even, poor quality. I was watching the archived video of Shawn Green's 4-homer game against the Brewers on MLB.com. His lifeless commentary about the historic event was disappointing.
  4. hahaha, outstanding. Hell..... with Trachsel starting, we'd even lose to the Royals !!! Royals? The schedule is misleading -- that "KC" is actually fort the Chiefs. Cubs play the Chiefs that day.
  5. *crosses fingers for the Astros to give him an interview*
  6. you'd like our guys to walk more on the first pitch? ;)
  7. you're right...mlb should step in and disqualify the cardinals from the 2007 season because he got hgh shipments in 2005 and some guy on a message board says ankiel allegedly used coke like eight years ago (and because they don't "deserve" it). let's just see if mlb can mandate a division title for the cubs while we're at it. the whining in this thread would be hilarious if it weren't so pathetic. Whatever. More of your ultra-sarcastic B.S. I couldn't care less. There are plenty of other things that could be done. How about a suspension, or at least an actual investigation of Ankiel? But hey, don't let that stop you from acting like a dick. come on, a suspension? you're asking for a guy to be suspended now because there's a rumor that he received hgh, which wasn't illegal, three years ago? give a me break. that's ridiculous. if this was a cub player and cardinal message boards were calling for his suspension, we'd all be quoting them here and having a great laugh. The "Natural" received a 12 month supply of HGH just before MLB outlawed it. Do you really think he didn't use any of that supply after HGH was banned from baseball? At a minimum, Blind Eye Bud should conduct an investigation. So he bought a legal, permitted substance. It then became illegal. And you feel pretty certain that this means he used it? I don't understand this logic.
  8. I don't understand what we're intended to consider for this poll: the greatest player after what-if scenarios take place, or the player who would benefit most (% of change in stats perhaps) from the scenario. Obviously Williams is the answer in the first case, and in the second case it could be any of them, really.
  9. Judgemental post about another's post? isn't that what your above post is? On a relevant note, I continue to be an optimist. We're tied in first in September.
  10. He apparently apologized to the catcher before his next AB. most likely because yost or another teammate told him to quit acting like an a-hole I'd compliment you for raising that good point . . . if I didn't assume someone else told you to do it ;)
  11. So because hes late to a game, he has a garbage attitude? I'm not going to make any claims about his attitude. But he was obviously late to more than just one game. it was mentioned he had the same problem in Iowa as well. We can't know about his attitude overall. But you're right that this has supposedly been a recurring issue for Eric -- so it's not out of line to suggest that his punctuality-attitude is pretty bad, and maybe that is an indication of more.
  12. pretty much flies into the face of many opinions around here -- in the outfield, particularly...
  13. As do all message boards, if not the entire internet. A collection of inherently different opinions would seem instable when looking at the collective as a whole??? shocking. ;)
  14. Trach isn't hot right now, and he didn't have a great august... ERA is sometimes a decent inidicator, but this case shows its flaws. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/psplit.cgi?n1=trachst01&year=2007
  15. wouldn't the schedule be easier if they simplified it down to 50 games, all Sox-Yanks? With the champion decided by a FOX text-it-in vote? Just throwing some ideas out there...
  16. As I said in the game thread, if the Cubs win the division it's not because they were the best team, it'll be because they sucked the least. Ummmm, wouldn't sucking the least mean they were the best team? yeah, but calling it "sucking the least" allows us Cubs fans to retain our pessimism ;)
  17. But then we would hear it even worse every time he gets a hit with his new team. Sweet, more ignorant baseless dramatization of what people are saying about Murton. Awesome. Its no over dramatization..I don't think ive ever seen people flock to a guy like some people do to Murton. You would think the guy is winning batting titles or healing cancer. He is no lock to be batting like .325 like most people think.Just because he's liek 24 and cheap..Who cares..Theres plenty of guys in baseball like that can also post a .280 to .300 average Just because weve seen glimpses of him,he's a decent player, does not mean he is a lock to become this power hitting outfielder batting .330 hitting 40 HR's You could have just stuck to statements like those in blue, avoiding statements like those in red, and we could have had a decent baseball discussion about the player. But when you claim that people believe Murton is the second coming of Christ, and then claim you're not overdramatizing the situation, you lose a lot of crediblity. And worse, it's hard for anyone to take the whole discussion seriously after that. (I don't mean to single you, as a poster/person, out. But your post here pretty much exemplifies what I'm talking about.)
  18. any word or reason to think he'll be available for this afternoon's game? I'd guess not, but w=might as well ask.
  19. I just happen to be watching it right now and I just read this. I just saw you. I have it on DVR, but don't know how to do anything with it. I can't find you, but maybe you can spot yourself, cubmanpi. http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/5158/wmplayer200708231224585up6.th.jpg http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/8018/wmplayer200708231224567qu4.th.jpg :?: if you can pinpoint the time/location you were in, maybe i can look again.[/img]
  20. maybe people want to see this, maybe not, but here they are. :) My girlfriend (who is trying to register here, but is having activation issues) and I have been going out for about 5 months. She despised baseball/sports before me, but has grown to be a huge Cubs fan this season, as I've taught her the ropes :) Our two favorite players, Matt Murton and Felix Pie -- we were excited to hear -- would be down with Iowa for the game we bought tickets for. Needless to say, from the photo evidence below, we were quite satisifed with the experience. http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/9625/untitled26vm8.th.jpg http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/351/untitled27vq5.th.jpg http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/630/untitled28smallks9.th.jpg http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/2389/untitled55zf3.th.jpg http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/3117/untitled57smallwb0.th.jpg http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/6202/untitled60hi0.th.jpg (mods, feel free to move if this doesn't belong here). Thanks for looking/reading. We had a great time, and admittedly, these pictures are more special to us than they would be to anyone else on the board, but what the heck, here they are anyway.
  21. especially in this division. Someone was making that point earlier . . . maybe Len . . . that taking 2/3 or 3/4 in most sets the rest of the year probably wins the division. So a sweep, whenever, it can be had, would be huge.
  22. just about anything gets him there. He was WAY overmatched.
  23. Aramis is gonna belt one here, I feel. it's the aramisy thing to do. edit: or not.
