  1. Of course they are so people stay tuned in. yep, that's my point. they won't call it (or raise doubts, I'd guess) until it's official.
  2. on ESPN, they're still talking about it like it's going on as usual. But I suppose they wouldn't speculate negatively, anyway, not when it's their game.
  3. what is this you speak of? viewtopic.php?t=43330
  4. Jesus, you had like 860 some odd posts earlier this afternoon... you've made 100+ posts in a matter of hours? Finland must really suck.... Its 1am here not much to do. Also I was doing PBP on the Brewers game. Who cares about post counts anyways? even with "post counts" significance aside, it is A LOT of posts. It's not a bad thing though, don't get me wrong, but it certainly is a lot and people are right to notice. Keep it up for all I care; I rather like your system of PBP in the game threads :)
  5. Who knows, if Theriot continues to be good and Murton finally gets the chance to be a consistent producer, we could be looking at a couple halfway decent positional players from our system for the first time in forever. Does Murton really count since he came from the Red Sox system in the Nomar deal? Shouldn't we get at least some credit for his development since he did spend a bit of time in our minors? Credit for development? not much, I'd say. But certainly credit for wanting him (i.e. scouting him). On the flip side, maybe the Cubs should get credit for developing Brendan Harris, but the blame for not wanting him (or, at least, not letting him "figure it out" in Chicago).
  6. Wise is warming up, actually.
  7. yeah! nice break. take advantage, you red people!
  8. The benefit, i guess, of the cubs not playing tonight would be a MIL loss. A full game ahead. Or MIL could win and . . . aw, time to be positive.
  9. I'm thinking as much about the 20k record as the no-hitter. To me, those are accidents of where balls fall as much as anything done right by the pitcher. 21 K's would be a feat, though. good point. and 2 Ks in the fifth only makes the point stronger: 11 through 5 now. He's on pace for just fewer than 20... wow. He's doing amazing, but it's still not on pace for the record. What a record . . .
  10. way to go, jinxy
  11. --From the Star Ledger Maybe they just want him to get exposure to the major league environment. He's already on the 40-man roster and the option clock has already started, so there's nothing to lose by bringing him up when rosters expand. In fact, he's the only player currently on the 40-man who has not yet appeared in the majors. As long as he's only used in blowouts, I agree, the move makes some sense. He doesn't seem "big league ready," but roster wise, little is lost by the callup. Could be interesting, if it happens.
  12. After going 3-4 today with a run scored and a RBI, are you finally prepared to admit there isn't? :?: Whether he's in a slump or not isn't really affected by a single game. I don't think Lee looks comfortable out there -- whether it's an injury problem or an effort problem, he doesn't seem as willing to swing the bat, particularly on the outside half of the plate. Um, did you read his post or just mine? He's not saying Lee's in a slump. He's saying there's something wrong with him, i.e. something more. That's what I addressed -- he doesn't look right with him. Not necessarily agreeing that he's injured, just that something doesn't look right. The rest of my comment addressed you: one succesful game isn't proof that a player isn't in a slump, or that he's not 100%. Whether it's an injry, a slump, or nothing, the sample size of yesterday's 3 hits doesn't change too much. In summary, I read both of your posts.

  14. I voted Yankees, but not entirely because of the overkill favoritism in coverage - they are the biggest, most popular, and talked about team, at least, so the slanted attention is somewhat justified. I voted Yankees because of the anti-Arod bias. Absolutely Ridiculous.
  15. Oh boy... what if he said "people trying to make a big deal out of nothing"? Left "black" out of it?
  16. So stop saying it and thinking it. Racism is illogical, and it exists (as a belief and an emotional scapegoat) because it's easy and illogical. Don't feed into that if you think you're "probably wrong."
  17. not inlcuding today: 126 ABs, 8 2Bs 6 Hrs .382 .460 .636 1.096 edit: beaten to it . . . except, do my stats look different? edit 2: mine are lifetime, others were '07
  18. Going off memory here, but I think it's 732 in the past 7 days, 680 in the past 14, and 750? in the past 28. No need to call people morons, unless you'd prefer to get banned to protect yourself from people who aren't happy with a 1B hitting like a shortstop. nice play by jones.... anyway... if I get banned for using the word "moron" then I am completely fine with that. i one hundred percent stand by that comment. It's not the word, it's the personal attack. And as the one who used the term dead weight who inspired said personal attack, I was describing Lou's general practice of sitting those who slump, not calling Lee dead weight. It was a mere proposal that for how bad Lee continues to look when he takes all these strikes, he could use a day off. Calm the f down. It's not actually a personal attack, he was referring to everyone who is saying Lee is dead weight. Gotta love all the wanna be mods. jersey took issue that he was being lumped in with HMS's "morons" insult. His response was civil and honest -- he wasn't a wannabe mod anymore than you're the Official Post Patrol.
  19. So the guy last night wasn't BSing. What guy? BleacherBadger on this page.
  20. There's got to be a lot more players on this list. It doesn't mention the much ballyhooed Scott Podsednik claim by the Cubs for example. Is there any way to know when Jones was waived? If it happened before Soriano's injury that makes more sense. I still doubt that they really wanted to go with Pie and Pagan in CF the rest of the way. It gets mentioned all the time: a player being placed on waivers does not mean the team is actively trying to get rid of him
  21. see me in three days.
  22. a great season? Which one of these isn't great? I've never understood the complaints about inconsistency. Some pitchers lump their good and bad starts together, some spread them out -- but only the cumulative stats matter. That's what measure how he hurt and helped the team throughout the year -- and he has always helped us much more than hurt us. And as you say, he's a workhorse. This is his first contract before hitting the market, thus he was destined to get a big deal. I don't see how he doesn't deserve it, other than the inherent risk of signing any pitcher to a five year deal.
  23. JH looks really uncomfortable.
