  1. Um...after 99 years, I'd take an outfield of Hussein, Hitler, and Bonds with Satan on the hill. People need to get over it. I remember in 2004 when people were saying "I don't even want to win it because Alou is such a complainer and Sammy cheated (cork) this year. Blah blah blah". Just win a damn trophy. wow. i sure don't remember that. couldn't have been a significant contigent around here.
  2. I'd be nearly certain he would. Any idea of him clearing waivers to come to the cubs has one very good reason it will never happen -- and it has nothing to do with him making it through waivers. :)
  3. I havent seen him in game action since 2005 when he played the 2nd half here in peoria but he was/is one heck of a shortstop. Has great range and a very strong arm. He and Patterson (who's DEF at 2b is vastly underrated) turned the quickest and best double plays I have seen in the MWL in 5 years. He also had great instincts and you could tell he was a "baseball" guy even if his stats didnt always show it. He was aggressive on the bases, knew when to go 1st to 3rd, worked well with the coaching staff. Most here knew that if he ever started hitting over .250 he would make it which was the same feeling people had aboue Molina here in 2002 as a catcher. thanks. i was hoping I'd get one of the "official" minor league guys' opinion :)
  4. on to the holy cow in the sky . . . RIP
  5. I stand by my belief that Barry is already blackballed by 29 MLB teams. And the 30th is ready to be donw with him, perhaps, after this year. If he's not a Giant next year, he'll be on his couch, IMO.
  6. good luck Carmen. I love ML debuts, always have, always will. :)
  7. What can out minor league experts tell me about him? He's certainly no stud, maybe hardly even a "prospect." But does he have really any shot to make the majors the next few years. He was a very solid player back in college, as I watched him with the Huskers (he was a teammate of new Yankee Joba Chamberlain, and Royals rookie Alex Gordon -- a dang good team, particularly in hindsight). Simo was a 10th rounder in '05 and is already in AAA, which must count for something. Does he have a legit. chance at the bigs someday? thanks :)
  8. MSNBC.com am I undersyanding that right? it sounds like it isn't a big deal, like it could even be random. even if true, it would pretty much fall in line with similar studies.
  9. hehe, understanding internet posts must be hard. I, for one, didn't take Keener of FriendlyConfines seriously. Sounded to me like Keener exaggerated, and FC was backing him up :)
  10. Tuesday's game will brought to you by the letter Z: Zambrano (14-8, 3.69) http://www.chicagosportsreviewimages.com/C309237325/E20060525220028/Media/feature%20Carlos%20Zambrano2113.jpg He'll face the Reds' Aaron Harang (11-3, 3.37) http://images.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/_photos/2006-06-07-reds-cards.jpg It's Ace vs. Ace as the Cubs try and show that the early season was a fluke, rather than the the months of June and July. GO cubs!!! (in my first ever game thread)!!!
  11. Kendall . . . Runner thrown out trying to steal . . . oh wait :(
  12. Cubs have been within a game of first for TWO WEEKS, according to Pat. Very nice. (even though we haven't always looked so hot)
  13. nice job, bobby!! he's having a good year despite what some of us around here say about him :)
  14. good call, Derosa. an overexcited 3b woulda really screwed us there. cool heads prevail with loaded bases
  15. oh jeebus, no full count please edit: didn't type fast enough. pop up, infield fly. :)
  16. lol, never heard him called that. just clicked his gameday name to check... that picture of him is eerily favre-like :D
  17. Same here, gonna try a "reboot" I've got it just now going into the 9th -- am i synched right?
  18. They still play 9 though. oh sure, and for that matter we still have a month and a half to play, so every emotion should be tempered, i suppose. BUt his line already is impressive and a welcome surprise. yeah, we really need to add on runs here. that may be. but on marquis' end, he's only allowed 1 run through 5 innings -- that's good whether the cubs offense has put the game out of reach or not. and it wasnt earned. good point, I actually don't have the line in front of me and forgot how it scored. So keep it up Jason!!

  21. Many posters here (myself included) did not like the idea of Marquis in Coors. Baseball is funny like that. :)
