  1. With the slight exception of the beginning of the year when the cubs were awful and the Brewers were arguably the best team in baseball ;) Seriously though, since the plateauing of both teams, you're right... and we're quite fortunate.
  2. Sosa returning is more likely than Edmonds coming over, IMO. kinda like "world's tallest midget," though. neither is remotely likely.
  3. Bloody @#$@@!! Sox. Now it isn't possible for us to make a deal for him. lol. banedom just said in the game thread that censored swearing is against the forum's policies ;) That is true. The reference is more towards something like sh$t, but I can see where you might think the line is fuzzy. gah!! my precious innocence again!! just messin with you ;) (even though this wasn't banedom's understanding of the rule when he warned a poster) Who's this banedom that you've mentioned in two posts? :D

  6. He's day to day. Like I said before, the Cubs survived without DLee and Aramis for stretches this year and I think they are both more important to the offense than Sori. This wouldn't be as big of a deal if the pitchers hadn't surrendered 7 runs tonight. Hell, the Cubs have barely been giving up 4 runs/game, on average, as a staff. Bad night. Yeah, but it's still one game. For every 7-run night, there's a 1-run night; we've had those too. That's the power of averages.
  7. mathematically, yes. But trailing by four feels just as insurmountable as trailing by eight or nine, at this point.
  8. Nevermind. You got owned self-ownage is the least painful kind there is.
  9. at least we aren't back at the earlier deficit of 5 runs...[/quick typing]
  10. I think Ohman's name should now be classified as a dirty word. that would bakering ridiculous!!!
  11. (i don't get why "WTF" is so permissively allowed, but "what the astrisks" wouldn't be...) that said, WTF is the deal with Ohman!?!
  12. This is going to be my first time... i'm still saving my first. good call on your's, though, i must say.
  13. Without going back and looking, I'm just going to assume that the posters saying "tip your hat" to glavine, and "classy crowd giving a standing ovation" aren't the same ones decrying ESPN's focus on the 300-angle...
  14. Money doesn't matter. I thought it was even understood that rotation numbers doesn't matter. Performance matters. And Marquis is our fifth most effective SP. People are arguing, by that metric, that he is a "good" fifth starter. I don't know if its statisticaly true, but that's how I interpret the argument.
  15. haven't heard anyone say five games. in fact, I think just about everyone here thinks we have holes -- look at the game threads :) Yep, I've heard it on this board. I have serious doubts. Marquis absolutely sucks. Kendall, well...nuff said. Pagan is pathetic. And our offense, no power. Continued lack of patience. Can't hit left-handed pitching. We're a playoff team? LOL We're four months into the season and these players have carried us to a 58-51 record. And we're in a weak division. We ARE NOT a lock for the playoffs -- and I really don't see anyone here saying that -- But we also don't deserve a "LOL" in regards to playoff chances. Well, that's the way I feel about the Cubs tonight. Aside from the one inning yesterday, what the hell did we do? We have too many holes. We MIGHT make the playoffs, but I have no hopes that we'll advance. So now "we might make the playoffs." That's all I wanted - just a little rational optimism. But "no hope" that we'll advance? We can play good baseball for the next two months to make the playoffs, but you have not hope for the five games directly after that. Silly.
