Evidently, Mark Prior is on the 60-day DL, which allowed a spot on the 40-man roster to be open for Womack. When was Prior transferred to the 60-day DL? What does this do to when he can return, if anything?
Man, Carlos Lee would be a brutal RF. I would rather Murton play RF than Lee. You could field a pretty strong OF with Lee, Pie, Jones/Murton platoon. What we really need is a genuine, everyday, middle of the order hitter in RF so we can platoon Jones and Murton in LF.
Would Gerry Hunsicker be interested? 3 words- Paul De Podesta the only currently available guy whose philosophy i agree with. give him 5 years to develop a farm system full of patient ballplayers and we'll be a perrenial contender. While realizing that we all are working with incomplete information, I'd say Hunsicker would be a top notch choice.
Edgardo Alfonzo. It's only a matter of time. Played for Dusty in San Fran IIRC. AND he's old. Therefore, yes, it is only a matter of time. Not that it matters, but Alfonzo never played for Crusty.
Why not call up Gallagher or Marmol? Option clock. Plus those 2 aren't likely to be ready. Marmol's clock is already ticking. Calling him up won't affect that.
Actually, to be kind, we should probably trade Marshall also. He seems like a nice kid. Keeping him around would constitute cruel and unusual punishment.
Yes. It wouldn't matter anyway. The 40-man roster is currently at 39 after outrighting Restovich, so one player can be added to the 40-man roster without removing somebody else. Actually, it does matter, technically at least. If you load up the 40-man while you have a guy that you value on the 60-day DL, you'll wind up having to take someone off the 40-man when you eventually activate the 60-day DL guy. In our particular case, it wouldn't matter much. I'd be happy for them to DFA Bynum, Hairston, BFG, or BFJ.
NL Central LH starting pitchers: Brandon Claussen, Eric Milton, Dave Williams, Andy Pettitte, Wandy Rodriguez, Chris Capuano, Doug Davis, Zach Duke, Paul Maholm, Oliver Perez, Mark Mulder. Conine would help. Can't give very much for him, though.
Let's see - Hinske's making $4.33 this season and is due $5.63 next season. Williamson is making $2 this season and we can either re-sign him at the end of the year or offer him arbitration and sit back and watch the draft picks roll in. Please be kidding.
I was thinking more along the lines of swapping former elite prospects - Brownlie for Phillips. Why give a guy with three (now two) options left for a guy with no options left? It's water under the bridge, but Wellemeyer for Phillips might have been OK.
