    As silly as this seems to us, it's possible that the Orioles value Zito higher than Prior.

    2B isn't the most obvious place for him to move. SS move because of decreased range, 2B still need range. I'm thinking 3B or LF. Regardless, once you move him out of SS, the premium you pay for production at SS is more than you should pay for production at 2B. You don't trade young top 10 pitchers for a guy you might have to move in a couple years. I hate when other people post "I have a source" stuff, but I'll do it anyway. Take it with a grain of salt. I would do the same if I were in your position. I have a source I respect who tells me that Mark Prior absolutely hates everything about the Chicago Cubs organization. It's almost a 100% sure thing that he's leaving as a free agent the very instant he can. You could be looking at Tejada for four years versus Prior for three years. Obviously, I don't know this for sure. Just something to consider.

    Possible, but doubtful if he moves to the NL. That's usually good for knocking a half a run off the ol' ERA.

    Goony, earlier you expressed concern about Tejada possibly having to change positions. Assuming that Tejada could move to 2B and wouldn't have to become a 3B, OF, or 1B, I wouldn't be especially concerned about that, since we wouldn't be moving Cedeno in this deal. Tejada/Cedeno until Tejada has to move (if that happens). Cedeno/Tejada after that.

    Prior and Hill for Tejada, Bedard, and Markakis. Bedard, Murton, and Gallagher for Zito. Would you do that?

    Bedard isn't really all that impressive either. He's 3 years older than Jerome Williams, and his major league numbers aren't any better. He does have a nice minor league record, but is it any better than Rich Hill's? Probably a little. But seriously, if Bedard, Hill and Williams battle for a spot, do you see a clear-cut distinction? If I'm dealing a pre peak, pre free agency, top ten pitcher, and getting back a post-peak top 10 position player, I need more than a Bedard to sweeten the pot. My point is that this isn't Smith for Schiraldi and Nipper. It's a fairly equitable talent exchange. Foolish or not, it would be a really ballsy move that would completely change the look of the franchise. I don't think I'd have the stones to do it.

    Trading Prior for Tejada would be foolish. Trading Prior and Hill for Tejada, Bedard, and Markakis is worth considering. Bedard isn't chopped liver and Markakis is a potentially dominant corner outfielder.

    Mark Prior is terrific, but he's no Roy Oswalt.

    I find the whole idea hard to believe, but Abreu has nothing to do with it. Tejada is a more valuable property than Abreu.

    I can't imagine why you would put Huff in RF and Jones in LF. Jones is far and away the better defensive player. Two reasons. One, Huff doesn't need a platoon partner; Jones does. Murton can only play LF. Two, Jones in LF would be a top, top defender. In RF, he's only good.

    Here's the sequence of things: Chicago Cubs trade Mark Prior and something else to the Baltimore Orioles for Miguel Tejada and Erik Bedard. Chicago Cubs trade Erik Bedard, Matt Murton, and something else to the Oakland Athletics for Barry Zito.

    Um.... Zito: 86-53, 3.50 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 461 BB, 945 K's, 1209 IP Williams: 23-22, 3.92 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 142 BB, 238 K's, 383 IP I'd say yes, Zito is better. That said, Jerome is 3 years younger and nearly $5.5 million cheaper (and not a free agent next year) He'll actually be more than $8 million cheaper next season.

    Show him Lake Michigan at sunrise and tell him it's dusk. He won't know the difference. Remember the story about some of the Phillies telling a young John Kruk that Lake Michigan was the Mississippi River? Classic stuff.

    The Cubs have the ideal platoon partner for Jones already on the roster. His name is Matt Murton. Move Jones to LF so his defense can be a real plus. They just need to get a full-time RF - preferably LHH - who can hit in the middle of the batting order. Aubrey Huff. After the extreme disappointment of last season, I find it hard to believe that Jim Hendry and Dusty Baker are willing to go into the season with Matt Murton and Ronny Cedeno both having essentially full-time roles.

    To be fair, BBB didn't really say that would be sufficient. He said that's all he'd be willing to give.
