  1. I don't think there's anyway he's an "A". He may even be a borderline "B". IIRC, he was a Class "C" FA after the 2004 season. I wonder if that's due to playing time. His rate numbers certainly rank well with 2b-men. And Elias doesn't consider defense when doing the rankings. This is the scenario. Walker is bats well enough to be an "A", but the Neifi love diminished his playing time enough so that he became a borderline "B"/"C". ESPN.com's player rankings seem to think Todd Walker no longer exists for some reason, but I'd imagine that's the case. What? Did you say that Dusty has been responsible for updating 2B player rankings at ESPN.com? :jocolor:

  3. ...so I assume we are hoping that Ceda could become a valuable middle reliever in the year 2012?
  4. back this bus up...who's watching Sox games? ...and why?
  5. As stated in the mulitple aramis threads, there will be a potential hole at 3B whether we trade him today or not. He is going to opt out of his contract, and he will be a free agent at the end of this season...no matter what happens today.
  6. I'll be suprised if he gets much booty. He manages his calories about as effectively as he does the Cubs.
  7. That's not a bad idea at all. I wonder about G. Maddux though. Has he expressed any interest in coaching? He seems like a guy who would try to hone his golf game to the point where he could join the Senior PGA. I agree...and even if Greg Maddux does have interest in coaching, how likely is it that he would be given a major league pitching coach job w/o ever coaching in the minor leagues? I'm aware that he's one of the best pitchers to ever set foot on a mound, but that doesn't necessarily translate into being able to effectively teach and/or manage a pitching staff. All that said, i wouldn't oppose having Mike as manager and Greg as pitching coach next season. The results couldn't be worse than this season.
  8. Conversely, I'm going to stop following this game after that last inning. Leave while you're on top, no?
  9. perhaps b/c he's admitted to using two substances provided by his trainer (who went to jail for distributing steroids) that fit the description of "the clear" and "the cream" or whatever they were named? That would be my guess. Would you argue that Barry didn't take steriods?
  10. Back in my country, we had gourmet limestone rocks. But it was captured by..the nothing.
  11. If one wants to utilize MLBTV to watch a blacked out game, one could use a proxy server to mask their IP address and circumvent the blackout if they so desired. I am merely presenting a fact in this post and am not advocating the use of the outlined process.
  12. Guess who also has a bad BA and ranks last in runs? To use a pretty worn-out phrase, firing Gene Clines now would be like rearranging the deck chairs of the Titanic. Wait...so who is the iceberg in this analogy....er simile? Hendry, Baker, or Lee's wrist?
  13. I'm definitely enjoying another day w/o Cubs baseball, but I'd say that Interleague schedules are more unfair than this.
  14. Yo, who's the girl in your avatar, mega-cute..... One of the myspace ad girls I think. Actually, I think it's Ginnifer Goodwin who's on the HBO series Big Love. She also played Johnny Cash's first wife in Walk the Line. Still, hotness abound. Do you think she'd be interested in serving as the Cubs' hitting coach? She may be no better than Gene Clines, but certainly more fun to watch. daske is correct, and I think she very well may be better then Clines as a hitting coach.....sorry raw =)
  15. Yep...playing time for younger guys to see what you have, instead of playing older guys because they're your "horses". I don't buy that argument. Dusty has been playing the "younger guys" to see what they have. Unfortunately, they were not quite ready to be played. i'd say marmol and marshall have given prior, wood, maddux and rusch a run for their money, production-wise. Hill and Guzman gave Rusch a run for his money. That is like saying a SS gave Neifi a run for his money. precisely. Nothing is gained by going with the veteran in these instances. That was Goony's point.
  16. Is that you Jim? or perhaps the omnipotent one?...wait, can't be..a god wouldn't use the phrase "our left field" when referencing the Cubs....
  17. The correct answer was "Jim Leyland". The Tigers were also fond of this idea, and the result has been more than positive.
  18. Hill would likely need to show that he can have success against major league hitters before being considered for the closer's role.
  19. That's just crazy. His butt needs no extensions....it's quite a large entity already.
  20. Who would you rather have? Bo Jackson in '89 or '90 or any other running back during their prime? If we are "what-if"ing, Bo comes to the top of my list.
  21. Vincent Edward Jackson 4.18 40 yard dash + quick feet + stronger than Jim Brown + 5.4 ypc = best running back ever
  22. Fiver your post made me laugh. C. Milk might be right but what if C. Milk is wrong? Say the Cubs take 3 of 4 from the brew crew or rattle off nice back to back winning streaks. I bet I wouldn't be the only idiot starting positive Cubs threads. If after the May and June the Cubs had the Cubs get to 0.500, which there still is time too, that that would be a huge accomplishment. I honestly don't wanna hear why they can't. I have a truck load of "why they can't". But why can't they? If the pitchers gave quality starts If the Cubs provided some good and early run support If they keep their defense going If the Pen does it's job, which it seems they have in Howry, Eyre, Novoa and Dempster. Then the Cubs can get back to a level of 0.500 baseball this year. Maddux always pitches good when he faces his brother Zambo is the Ace nuff said Marmol has shown he belongs at this level and is getting better and better. Prior is getting better as well. I see Prior 1-4 after his next game. Last night Marshall upped the anti for the starting pitching staff along with Am Ram calling them out too. I see good things happening with the bats. The Cubs team will figure out lefties this year. Starting with this series. Scott, You've been consistently optimistic for the two or so years I've been reading this board, and I don't wish for that to change. It's certainly possible for the Cubs to get back to an even record by playing great baseball in the second half, and I hope they do that. However, that's not a goal that I deem to be important. A World Series title would be great, but the goal is to play in the postseason....Anything else is very disappointing to me.
  23. wow...My perception was that this was the same .500 thread from a couple of weeks ago, and it was still on the first page b/c people were giving poor Scott a hard time. I had no idea that Scott had cracked open a new bottle of "hope". I think Chocolate Milk said it best when he said: "Scott, dude, it's over. It's over."
  24. There's someone in my head, but it's not me.
  25. ha ha...I was busy with meetings and didn't follow or check updates on this game. It's really better this way.
