  1. It was said precisely because management is NOT pushing pitchers back. Which sort of contradicts what Clanton is saying now doesn't it? Not really. The Cubs have turned on the caution sign only recently. This laissez-faire attitude toward recovery time is somewhat of a new thing for the organization, and it might only be in relation to the major leaguers. Yeah, that's true. Probably. Does Hendry sound like he uses that kind of language though? I've never heard of him doing that----doesn't sound like the guy (and I've been very critical of Hendry). Maybe it's all true. I don't know. I don't know Hendry personally, but I do know a scout in the Cubs system who says Hendry is an arrogant (you can fill in the appropriate word here). He said he was great when he was in charge of the minor leagues, but once he got the GM position he has changed considerably. Like I said, I don't know Hendry, but I would tend to believe what this guy told me. Take it for what it's worth. Based soley upon this article, the kid likely has at least a moderate if not severate mentall illness. The statement about him thinking that the Cubs were listening to his phone conversations is indicative of someone suffering from fairly severe paranoia. His actions and statements made to his college coach seem to also support this. He seemed to think that his college coach was willing to sacrifice his career to win one ballgame. So...his college coach was also "out to get him"..not just the Cubs organization. I'm not going to truly judge this guy, because I haven't walked in his shoes, and I don't know what it's like to live inside this guy's head. However, I'm certainly not going to lay any blame on the Cubs organization based upon this article....except for not doing more research on the kid prior to drafting him in the first round. Frankly, I don't care if Hendry told this kid to "STFU".
  2. Excellent question. In my line of work due diligence is performed when researching a potential contract. The college coach seems to only be speculating that the Cubs weren't aware of the last game incident, but I'm baffled as to why a phone call wasn't made to the college coach before throwing a million dollars at the kid. You would do this anytime you are selecting any draft pick, no? Common sense dictates that it should definitely be done with a first rounder.
  3. Not by much, but Yes..he's a better hitter than Guzman or Hill.
  4. Now I remember why I ordered MLBTV on a monthly basis instead of paying for the whole season upfront.
  5. bingo
  6. I'm pretty frustrated myself, but food poisoning can be really debilitating. It's definitley not just a matter of being in the restroom for a few hours, believe me. I admit I'm beyond frustrated.
  7. Raw oysters, sushi, and rare steaks are all staples of my diet, and I've never had food poisoning in my entire life. Where and what is Prior eating? Stay in the restroom for a couple of hours if needbe, but resume your daily work activities the next day, Mark.
  8. From a business perspective, this makes the most sense.
  9. .....update on the weather from someone close to Wrigley??
  10. Peanuts good in Thai food...yes...
  11. I must disagree with everyone that believes that this should be anything less than an entire 2006 season suspension for Young. This goes way beyond the Everett headbutt or Alomar's saliva, IMO. This isn't anyting close to being the equivalent of a player pushing an umpire, and this isn't the equivalent of a player punching another player. My opinion is that baseball should set the precedent that this type of aggression towards an umpire will not be tolerated. Intensely arguing with an umpire is one thing, but Young's intent was to either physically harm the umpire or scare the hell out of him by throwing the bat over the ump's shoulder (yeah right). Either way, umpires cannot have fear in their minds and call a fair game at the same time. ....Young is done for the season.
  12. shadows will be half way b/w the plate and the mound in the bottom of the 9th increasing our chances to score exponentially....that is if we get out of the top of the 9th in the next hour or so
  13. I'm 19, wasn't watching in Gracie's heyday. Too bad, it was good times by good times, he's referring specifically to 1989 and most Grace AB's in other years....not Grace's heyday as a whole.

  15. Sweetness....I was blacked out on MLBTV for this game, but I was just able to figure out how to use a proxy server to hide my IP and see the game anyway.....this rocks.
  16. A pitcher will totally lose his feel for the plate on Neifi's 49th AB.
  17. Lefties battle tomorrow. Let's make it 3.
  18. You're not the only one. I been pretty much doing that ever since the Cubs hitters were hacking. since i became a cubs fan when i was a child
  19. Let's be honest with ourselves...there really haven't been many hard hit balls. The Cubs are being 1 hit by a friggin' AAA club, pretending to be a major league club? This is JUUUSSSSSTTTTT great. Can we start the Cubs motto now, "Wait till next year?" Cause it's the same crap, different verse. Actually, it seems to be the same verse....injuries and impatience at the plate.
  20. Let's be honest with ourselves...there really haven't been many hard hit balls.
  21. for the love of beer...we have to get some runs this inning
  22. Would it make me happy? Yes. Must we win the series to insure the Cubs make the playoffs? Obviously, no. There is a lot of baseball left to play. They probably do need to win the series if they want Cubs fans to retain the somewhat positive feeling about the season into next week.
