  1. but luckily they are fairing a touch better from 3 point land
  2. IU is 1-5 from the charity strip :x
  3. 44-42...looks like it's going to remain close...9 minutes left
  4. IU up 37-28!
  5. It may take 5 years. The Cubs get knocked on all the time for not signing the big name, but that's because they usually don't offer the years the big names require. Then trade him for some decent prospects. The Marlins would... and they won two World Championships none after trading Lee for a prospect however
  6. Walker at 1b? Grissom playing and batting 5th?
  7. I have no problems admitting that I gave up the idea of this team making the tournament just a bit too soon. In my defense, the games played between White's season ending injury and Davis's resignation did seem to catalyze an extended bout with irritable bowel sydrome...so.. The win against Michigan absolutely assures IU an invitation, and I'm pleased that this team has somewhat salvaged this season. While I don't think that they are equipped for much more of a March run, the tourny experience will be positive for the underclassmen. New Goal = Sweet 16.
  8. At most Sing is a longshot to fulfill that role for now as he would need to have a mammoth spring. How many teams would we see kicking themselves if he were to make our opening roster considering what transpired during Rule 5.
  9. I agree; get to 17 wins and IMO they're a lock (17 wins almost always gets a team from a major conference in, and I see no reason to deny IU a bid if they reach 17). They have righted themselves since the slide (three wins in a row now, including one over a ranked team and one on the road). They actually lost by 8 points to both Duke and UConn, but that certainly wouldn't exclude them from the tournament. They will probably enter the Big Ten Tournament as the 6 or 7 seed....meaning that they will likely play Northwestern or Purdue again in the first round. Are you sure that a loss to Michigan, win against Northwestern/Purdue, and then loss to the #2 or #3 seed will get them there?
  10. much appreciated, Bruce. I was on an hour long conference call and the perusal of this thread was a nice distraction.
  11. I would kill to remember what bracketology means.....thanks mike d. http://www.spartantailgate.com/forums/images/smilies/rumor.gifLatest Bracketology has IU playing Wichita St. as a 10 seed. IMO, IU will need to win 3 out of their next 4 games to get into the dance. They should beat Purdue tonight...They will likely lose to Michigan. They then will need to win two conference tournament games. I don't see them getting into the tournament with anything less and I'm doubting that they play well enough to win 3 of 4 and none at Assembly Hall. But thanks TT..I did enjoy discussing the potential of them playing in the NCAA tournament. For a moment I felt like a kid peering into a candy store from the outside window.
  12. I would kill to remember what bracketology means.....thanks mike d.
  13. me neither..I had to do that one time once upon a time when camping...not pleasant.
  14. Ditto in Mobile..I'm fortunate enough to have my company provide tickets to all of the BayBears games that we want to attend. There reallly aren't a tremendous amount of baseball fans where I work, so I'm able to take advantage of this on any given home game.
  15. I'd get a kick out of hearing Everett and Darren Daulton have a theological debate
  16. Cedeno ..there's a remote possibility that Cedeno would thrive batting in the 2 spot. :( Cedeno batting second, Soriano batting fifth, and Hairston in LF will be worse than what we have currently IMO.
  17. who hits second if soriano is at 2B instead of walker?...a LF playing hairston jr.? I know that we are lacking someone to hit in the 5 spot, but we'd need to dump walker, obtain a high OBP left-handed hitting left-fielder that can bat second, and look past the fact that soriano portrays all of the negatives that we didn't find appealing in Sammy. I'm not very confident that Hendry or anyone else could turn this into a positive.
  18. My guess? He decided after a night of drinking that he was going to prove to everyone that he was able to "change" weather patterns and create very balmy 90 degree weather conditions in New England on that cool January night in 2001. The FBI caught wind of this, and could not have him revealing his legitimacy to everyone. Mass hysteria would be involved if everyone knew that the world will be coming to an end in late 2012, right? They foiled his plan by forcing him off the road and into the tree. It was only a warning, and Daulton has not made a subsequent attempt to showcase his ability to change weather. To answer the original question in this thread, yes...this very well could prove that the Chicago Cubs are cursed.
  19. Daulton has every right to believe what he desires, but the following doesn't support his case. hmmm.. also He claims the accident was due to a conspiracy, and I'm guessing he was just coincidentally very intoxicated???? As I stated, he's entitled to believe what he wants. My belief is that he is a bit delusional, and suffers from paranoia. Maybe I'm wrong.
  20. Correct. The one in the front....Zambrano or Michael Jackson?
  21. Who thinks this may have been catalyzed by the Hornets doing better in Oklahoma City than they did in NOLA pre-Katrina? I wouldn't be suprised if Oklahoma City keeps that franchise as well. If they can pack the seats, then they deserve the teams. period.
  22. I don't think I'd called them overrated, just another example of a team playing beyond its means and above its expectations. But their consistency and grittiness could take them to the BIG 10 tourney championship That Big 10 tournament is gonna be loads of fun. If the top 8 hould out, I could honestly see any of those 8 winning the whole thing. =; Exclude Indiana from this please. I will have no hope lingering around here. :) I suppose they could win one..err several for Mike D.
  23. I'm traveling to New Orleans this weekend and will see what I can do.
  24. Evidently Davis had more to say today and has conceeded that change may be needed at IU. I wasn't able to view the full article. Can anyone paraphrase? http://indiana.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=512682 TJ King on Mike Davis:

    HUH?

While steroids wouldn't have increased his vision, they may have increased his bat speed. That said, he may have been making evaluations on which pitches to hit a bit more quickly last year...This is certainly speculation. However, the declining numbers and talk about dropping weight purposefully certainly lead one down the path of thinking he may have stopped taking steroids. How about the idea that pitchers no longer feared his abilities as much, so they quit trying to get him out out of the zone. Tim was on target by mentioning that he has never been one to take a lot of walks...I didn't realize that balls in play have always been such a large factor with respect to his once above average OBP. His pitches per plate appearance were just a bit lower than his career average. He didn't strike out at a higher rate, and his groundball/flyball ratio was on par with his career average as well. He still performed very well against finesse pitchers. He had a lot of trouble with the power pitchers. (350/365/617 and 270/281/426 respectively) He has traditionally had much more success against power pitchers...declining batspeed certainly is a factor.
