  1. You may be right nationally (which I guess is all that matters), but I've really been more annoyed by Bama fans since they've been terrible. Many of them still think they're God's gift to college football (and, perhaps, humanity) and talk that way. Saban coming to Bama has only made things exponentially worse. Not all Bama fans think Bama is "God's gift to college football." But you cannot denied Alabama's place as one of the TRUE historic football programs in America, and for that we Crimson Tide fans are extremely proud of the school. With that said, we also know that Alabama, due to rat finks(Fulmer almost---index finger and thumb are an inch apart----got Alabama leveled with the Death Penalty)), and stupid boosters (Keller among others) haven't been relevent consistantly since 1992 whoopin of Me-ami. Which is why we went crazy when Nick Saban came to Alabama. If you look at the class coming in 2008, and the class he's got for 2009, I guarantee you that people on this board will hate Alabama again, and will put us with the Yankees/Red Sox, USC, Miami, Notre Dame of the world. I promise you this, as much as some people don't want to here it, but Alabama will be playing for a National Title within 2 yrs. This post is very interesting considering you didn't accept the friendly wager I offered a couple of pages back. I'll still make that offer even though one of Auburn's starting CBs just went down for the season with a knee injury. Are you going to accept the wager or continue to speculate while wearing the chrimson glasses?
  2. If local journalists have seen the never-ending blister lately and have reported such, then that's great news. I will admit that I've wondered whether this could be something a little more serious.
  3. I'm ready for some football...Redflash...care to place a wager on the Alabama-Auburn game? I believe you made a post earlier in the thread indicating that Alabama would end the losing streak this year. If Alabama wins, I buy you the sports cap of your choice (total cost not to exceed 30$ with S&H) and vice versa.

  5. Grey Goose may not be the best example to use in this instance, because "ultra premium" vodkas such as Goose don't really taste all that different than "premium" vodkas that have been filtered fewer times such as Skol. Pedro is more like super rare The MaCallan 60 yr compared to everyone else's Glenfiddich 12 yer.
  6. Decide for yourself. In which scenario would your most dominant, "shutdown" relief pitcher be more valuable? 1) when leading 5-4 in the bottom of the 9th inning with no one on and the 6th, 7th, and 8th hitters coming to the plate 2) or when leading 5-4 in the bottom of the 8th inning with none out and runners on second and third with the 3rd, 4th, and 5th hitters coming to the plate? Managers got into the habit of saving their most dominant relief pitcher for the 9th inning, because the last three outs were supposedly the hardest to obtain. The save statistic also helped to perpetuate this theory in my opinion. I believe that scenario 2 above would be the more difficult situation, and thus I'd want my best relief pither in the game for those outs instead of in the 9th.
  7. Personally, I believe one would be foolish to be "very confident" that Alabama will beat Auburn in '08 based upon Bama's most recent recruiting class. As it stands, Auburn likely still has the better, deeper team. If Alabama puts together another top 5 recruiting class, then well....Alabama will regain a dominant position in '09. Putting our in-state rivalry aside, Georgia, LSU, and Florida will probably be the top SEC teams in '08.
  8. oh wow...i played against Marvin in high school. He played for Grissom High School in Huntsville. He blocked 2 of my shots that game. RIP, Marvin.
  9. heh....abuck, i can probably ship you some grits, slaves, etc. if you are in need since I live below the Mason-Dixon line.

  12. I'm not as worried about a potential name change as I am about a new owner having to pay rent. That's the issue that will have a negative impact on the team.
  13. My name is Jonas. I'm carrying the wheel.
  14. I don't believe the Cubs can trade Cintron until June..although this may not apply to minor league contracts.....???
  15. you can barely contain yourself That does seem to be the theme in this thread. I admit that I'm elated that another fan base will now be subjected to all that Dusty brings to the table. However, has anyone considered that the sun could possibly shine on even Baker's behind this year or next? How devestating would that be to Cubs fans?
  16. No, Clemens enjoys being looked upon as one of the greatest pitchers to ever play the game. Admitting to PED use would have tarnished that, and that alone could have potentially prevented him from entering the HOF. He thought he could deny, deny, deny and save face...hoping this would "blow over" so to speak. That said, you have to know when to cut your losses. At this point, he may have to worry about more than not getting inducted into the HOF.
  17. additional loss of scholarship and/or post season ineligiblity Depends on how they handle Sampson. My guess is that they fire Sampson at the end of the season. correct :beg: I'm hoping they do fire Sampson and are thus spared post season eligiblity
  18. additional loss of scholarship and/or post season ineligiblity
  19. Yeah, I understand about the 100 calls. Those aren't nearly as serious in my mind. 1) None of them involve Sampson. 2) The person who made most of those calls has been already forced to resign. 3) The reason the calls ballooned to that many is that the other members of the staff did not realize that Senderhoff was making illegal calls from home. That meant that every call that was made legally from the office that went over the limit because of the illegal calls had to be counted. I think the NCAA will accept the Senderhoff resignation in that part of the process. The main things are the 3 way calls, the small gift to Elston, and probably the biggest part that Sampson was found to be lying. Agree...We're really going to have to wait for IU's response before speculating too much further, but if everything in the report is true, my initial thought is that Sampson will fired, IU will be docked additional scholarships, but postseason play won't be a part of further sanctions.
  20. ESPN's Schlabach releases his 2008 college football top 25: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=schlabach_mark&id=3240529 1) Georgia 2) Oklahoma 3) Ohio State 4) USC 5) Mizzou 6) Texas 7) Florida 8) LSU
  21. Auburn's recruiting class is ranked #16 at rivals, but they were ranked #7 in 2007 and #10 in 2006, so this has been characterized as a largely mediocre class. Welcome to the Nick Saban era in the state of Alabama. One of the top RB recruits in the nation, Enrique Davis (212lb 4.39 forty), decomitted after Auburn made the shift to the spread offense in December. Our new offensive coordinator, Tony Franklin, has since visited Davis and tried to convince him that he'll still get a lot of carries with the new offense. If I had to guess, he'll end up signing elsewhere..Tennessee perhaps? Auburn is already very deep at RB, so this wouldn't be a huge loss. Auburn does have 2 five star recruits (1 DE and 1 OL), 5 four star recruits (3 ATH, 1 RB, 1 DE) and 17 three star recruits. Tuberville has been fairly good at picking sleepers over the years, so I can only hope that some of the three star recruits overachieve.
  22. Unless Cedeno or Pie rock in Zona or we add a SS or CFer I'd expect to see The Riot #2 on opening day. Parden the interruption, go right back to beating the horse. It's a family site, guy. I believe you may have invisioned the wrong horse there, Thunder. I'm with those that aren't getting upset about batting order presently. Lou isn't Dusty.
  23. Auburn has offered their defensive coordinator position to Paul Rhodes of Pitt. I don't know much about Rhodes other than the fact that Pittsburgh had the overall #5 ranked defensive last season.
  24. I'm willing to bet Cedeno would be fine in the outfield defensively. However, he's a below average hitting major league shortstop, so he's not going to win any Silver Slugger awards in the outfield either. I guess this increases his flexibility, but I'd almost prefer he focus on hitting instead of learning a new position.
  25. Fair, yes. To say they are the hottest team and one of the two best, no. If they won their division and played/beat LSU I'd be fine with them being recognized but they never even played them. They lost to an average SC at home and were crushed 35-14 by Tennessee and their best win was over a 4 loss Florida. At least Missouri won their division so that gives them an edge over them. WV out right won theirs, won their last 3 BCS games and yet they are 6th? OSU gets embarrassed by LSU after getting killed by Florida the year before but yet somehow command the respect to be ranked ahead of WV who beat OU by 20? We probably both agree that final rankings other than #1 really have little significance. I wouldn't have any problems with West Virginia being ranked #2. They dismantled OU, but I still think it would be tough to say that WV should have without a doubt been ranked ahead of Georgia or USC given all of their resumes. However, WV should have certainly received the nod over Missouri and OSU in the final rankings in my opinion.
