  1. so how many years before IU makes the NCAA tournament again? I'm hoping for the '10/'11 season.
  2. Yes, I believe he does occassionaly "tell us something we don't already know." He's been very good about dispelling trade rumors when they are nothing more than rumors, and he's also good about providing confirmation when Hendry has indeed had discussions with X about Y. As mentioned, he's not a sensationalist. He's trusted.
  3. Guzman put up a line of 26 IP, 33 H, 16 ER, 11 BB, 18 K, 1 WP, 4 HR, 29 GO-24 FO - 5.54 ERA playing in Venezuela over the winter. Is there an issue with his stuff/velocity at this point or was this a matter of being rusty, not hitting his spots? Should his name even be mentioned when discussing 5th starter candidates?
  4. maybe this isn't a down year for the sec.
  5. From what I've heard, Chizik had a legitimate motive for leaving Auburn after the 2004 undefeated season. Chizik and Tuberville were not on good terms when Chizik left. Basically Chizik wanted more exposure. He wanted to have more access to the media after that season instead of just immediately after football games. He felt Tuberville was stifling his career so he could keep him as DC at AU.
  6. You're right. I'm pissed. Jacobs managed this whole process poorly.
  7. I don't think Alabama - Utah is going to be particularly close..
  8. did you get a big 12 south second place finishers t shirt too I haven't been paying attention to college football threads since college football doesn't really exist in my version of reality this year but wasn't meph a UF fan last year?
  9. ...at least he got someone out this game.
  10. I'm in the minority I'm sure, but I personally consider Auburn to have won a National Championship in 2004. It's the SEC homer in me, I suppose. It was one of the biggest travesties the BCS has wrought yet. It should have been USC and Auburn in that game. Why? Because Oklahoma ended up getting beat down in the title game? I don't remember anybody complaining about Auburn getting left out of the title game (in terms of them being more deserving, not that there should be a playoff) before it happened. Also, if Oklahoma loses that game by a touchdown, nobody is complaining either. USC and Oklahoma were regarded as the top two teams in the nation going into the year and everybody wanted to see the matchup between the two at the end of the year. Also, people thought Auburn deserved to get a share of the National Title, they would have gotten plenty of first place votes. Instead, they got 3 in the AP poll and none in the Coaches Poll. USC the year before (when they were the 1-loss team that got left out) got 48 of the 65 AP votes and was ranked first after the bowls. Well they got none in the Coaches poll because that poll has a committment with the BCS. Whoever wins the BCS Title game gets a unanimous vote for the best team in the final Coaches poll. That said, I agree with you. I think it was pretty evident that USC and Oklahoma were the two best teams in the nation all year long that season. It wasn't until after the BCS Title Game (or right after Mark Bradley did one of the dumbest things I've ever seen a football player do) that people were clamoring for Auburn to get their fair share. I was clamoring for Auburn to go over OU long before the BCS Title Game and I heard plenty of people (both around me and nationally) questioning why OU was going over Auburn. Yes, I was clamoring for this as well. Auburn ended up playing Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl. I attended and was able to watch the 13th and final victory of the season....that was a fun several days in NOLA...wow.
  11. I believe he was all but fired after the 2003 season. If I recall correctly, Tuberville was basically fired after the year and Petrino was set to be hired. Then, for whatever reason, Petrino backed out or Auburn boosters decided not to go through with it or something. Thus, Tuberville remained the head coach and went 13-0 the next season and got screwed out of a national championship berth. Auburn was a preseason top 5 team in '03 IIRC. They went on to disappoint for much of that year, going 6-5 in their first 11 games. After the Georgia game, JetGate took place, Petrino was interviewed. However, Auburn won the next game, the Alabama-Auburn game. They also beat Wisconsin in the bowl game by two touchdowns, and those two final games of the '03 season temporarily saved Tuberville's job. Auburn went on to go 13-0 in the 2004 season, cementing Tuberville as head coach for several more years.
  12. Rich Hill has very little trade value, if any. Other teams know that Hill has to make the Cubs 25 man roster out of spring training or he will have to pass through waivers. There is < 1% chance of the Cubs rostering Hill, and other teams know it.
  13. ...so does Aragua start Hill again, is he sent to the bullpen, or does his stay in Venezuela come to a premature completion?
  14. Knights of Columbus, that hurt. Great contribution to the thread too. Also, glad you could make the assumption that I've only followed the cubs, or more specifically rich hill, since 2007. Would it be better to have a huge freaking internet ego like most of you and just type that I know everything about rich hill, and for that matter, everything? Look....When you make a statement such as "Rich Hill is done" followed by "99% of what I do know bout Rich came from that singular season", then you're going to get ribbed. It's fine if you think Rich Hill won't again produce as he did in 2007, but you aren't providing any meaningful analysis to back your position. Frankly, it would be tough for anyone to take your position on the subject seriously if you aren't analyzing the entire body of work. You, madam or sir, have contributed little more than anyone else in this thread.
  15. fixed. Maggs isn't a good fit.
  16. Yeah, so does anyone remember before the season started when I asked RedFlash to make a wager on the Iron Bowl? I'm pleased he declined.
  17. Why? http://blogs.suntimes.com/fullcourtpress/sampson4.jpg
  18. college basketball doesn't exist for the next couple of years as far as I'm concerned.
  19. Yes. I have an oil painting of Wrigley Field in my office, and 80% of the people who have entered my office since the end of the series have made a comment of some sort, whether it be chuckling at my expense or offering their condolences. Aside from my coworkers, my good friends have just generally made fun of my Cub fandom.
  20. LSU dismantled preseason number 10 Auburn, and Mizzou has trailed for about 10 seconds this season. I was surprised to see BYU that high too. When did LSU dismantle Auburn? I must have missed that game. Currently, Alabama should be ranked ahead of LSU, imo.
  21. i was a sophomore in college, and i remember watching on WGN....my freshman and sophomore years of college are really foggy to me these days though....i don't remember the exact location as i do with 9/11, '03 playoff games, etc.
  22. NOT IF I CAN HELP IT! SEC teams also play the Big Ten and Big East this year, so I'm sure there will be enough vitriol for all to share.
  23. so why aren't YOU swimming in the olympics? I wasn't nearly as talented. Her 100m backstroke time last night is comparable to my best 100m freestyle time from back in the day if that gives you an idea....Anyway, she won bronze last night, and she's the favorite to win the gold in the 200m back later in the week.
  24. Margaret Hoelzer and I both swam for Fran Norris at Space City Swim around 12 years ago. She had the 6th fastest 100m backstroke time in the semifinals and will be competing for a medal tonight in the finals of that event. Also of note, she's the world record holder in the 200m backstroke and prelims for that event begin on Thursday I believe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Hoelzer
