When one knows they may be tested at the WBC, and they still fail the test, then that is likely associated with use that is at least somewhat habitual. Someone who doesn't really smoke (or smoke anymore) may smoke every once in a blue moon to celebrate something perhaps, but they probably wouldn't do it close to the time period in which they may be tested. If it were a one time occurence as he suggests, even being a tad portly, it likely would have been out of his system in about 7 days. If he's getting loaded (via marijuana, alcohol, whatever) everyday, then it would have a negative impact on his physical ability and reactionary time. I don't know how often he smokes or smoked, so I'm not going to assume he has negatively impacted his ability to play baseball. However, I do call BS on the "isolated incident" assertion.
