  1. Actually Neifi's autograph is on the team ball...which is very crowded with 29 sigs on it. Even better - you have sigs of the one of the worst Cubs teams of all-time!

    Martin plus Skiles = http://webs.advance.com.ar/alegreto/fotos/explosion%20Nuclear1.jpg
  3. His swing is really ugly. He doesn't even try to hit the ball so much as he flips the bat at it. His hitting fundamentals are consistently poor. When h does keep his shoulders and head on target with his hands back he does a nice job of hitting line drives the other way. Problem is he does it only 10-15% of the time.
  4. DJ started this very Neifi-like gent at SS for quite sometime: http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/santara01.shtml Nooooo!!!! (sarcasm)
  5. Nice. Fun part of being a fan is doing what you do on your trips. Keep that Neifi ball. There must be some value in having the autograph of the player known to some as the worst hitter of all-time.
  6. Those guys on BBTN are dumb. When Feds with large weapons holstered to their hips show up at your front door, what the ehck should you do? This isn't the Mob. Grimsley's former teamates aren't going to pay to take care of his family while he's on the inside.
  7. Situation dictates whether you should or should be first pitch swinging, methinks. When Aramis comes up with the bases loaded, he's looking fastball. If he gets that fastball on the first pitch, by all means swing away. If not, hang in there and wait for your pitch.
  8. Union's going to file a grievance and win in a walk. Retaliatory discharge at its finest.
  9. Cuban's too smart to buy the Trib. Newspapers will be irrelevant in 10 years. I know the Trib has other assets, including some on the web, but still...
  10. and Julian Tavarez and Travis Harper and Jose Valverde Gagne. Are you guys being serious, or making fun. I really cannot tell. My point is while not ignoring that usage exists, trying to speculate who did or didn't use is pointless because no one can tell. What do you suggest be done? I agree that aimless fingering pointing is not the answer, but what is the solution?

  12. There are always guys who make so much contact that it masks their lack of plate discipline and walks. The guys who do that and become stars are rare, though. Vlad the Impaler is one. I can't think of too many others, though I am sure there are a few currents and several former.
  13. Whining and moaning? Don't you think its important to out the cheaters? Or should we turn a blind eye and allow it to continue? The thing is, we might all not care about its effect on the integrity of the game, but what about these guys' lives?
  14. Durng the Bulls first championship run (90-93), I watched each and every game in my parent's kitchen on a tiny, 12-inch t.v. I was convinced this was required to insure their success. When Pax hit the three that sealed the 3rd title (vs. the Suns), I jumped so high that I hit my head on the cealing. Good times.
  15. Nevin, please.
  16. Not that it matters much, but that was Neifi's OBP coming into the season. It's actually .299 now. We have so many good options now in terms of letting Nevin play 1B and having Walker at 2B, that I just don't get why he sniffs the starting lineup.
  17. Stop torpedoing threads.
  18. His OPB and lack of walks are troubling.
  19. He did appear to be getting under fastballs that he normally drives. Two good signs: The Granny was to the opposite field, and the single that he hit right back up the middle last night. Maybe he's stopped pressing so much.
  20. I agree that Jones' contract was excessive, but in light of his performance, I am glad we have him and not Encarnacion and Wilson, both of whom are playing far below where they should be (particulalrly Wilson, who has that freakin' Little League-style park and LF wall to dump cans of corn in 50% of the time). And the only thing as annoying as the "you all hate Jones; eat crow" stuff are the sophmoric counters. If you don't wish to encourage that sort of thing, I would suggest not fighting fire with fire.
  21. I think if you do it, you'd have to wait a little longer, and hope his numbers stay solid while you wait. If the team scuffles around .500 between now and the ASB, their chances would be practically nil. Then you can deal him. But I don't think the timing is right at this moment to make a deal. If he plays over his head and the team roars back into contention, you might have to keep him for now. Agreed. Though you wonder if you can strike at the Yanks while their iron is burning hot. He could do a lot of damage with that short RF porch at Yankee Stadium.
  22. It was moderately funny the first time, but this is ridiculous. EDIT: The sarcastic threads, not Jacque's running style.
  23. It's a little-known fact that Todd Walker actually shaves every 3 innings. Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Jerry shaves his chest: "Ahhhhhooooooooooooooo that feels good!"
  24. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2472072 IMO, this isn't a big deal, and I enjoyed his enthusiasm.
  25. Soriano really has my atatention b/c he's putting up those numbers at RFK.
