  1. I am not convinced that they are done yet. Lots of ball to play still. They have to keep up this pace though, and probably have to have at least one prolonged win streak (8-10 games).
  2. That sums up my feelings exactly. Ditto. And I loved the heads-up base running last night. Show em' how its done, Walk.
  3. BUMP!! Jacque for President!
  4. I still love the title I gave my Jacque thread - "Jacque's live bat." You can go in several different directions with that one.
  5. Thing about Womack that is really encouraging is that he is taking walks.
  6. I am late on this one, but Walker's baserunning play was the best I have seen in years from this team.
  7. Jacque for freakin' President!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. http://webzoom.freewebs.com/sportsautosttm/Baseball%20Scans/ericgregg.JPG He's medium sized here. There were definitely days during which he was much bigger.
  9. None of those are likely to happen anywhere...with the exception of your PS2.
  10. It certainly would be nice if we had an actual owner where the buck stops as opposed to a faceless and ugly corp. I've always been jealous of teams like the Steelers and Chiefs, who have had longtime familial ownership that cares about the fans and wants to win. Babseball as much as any other sport has become robotic and corporate. There's no more family ownership in the game - just 10 or so years ago there was such ownership of the Dodgers and Red Sox.
  11. A very realistic approach. If they did in fact keep up such a pace, they'd alos find themselves in the WC race, which is much more realistic, IMO.
  12. My most vivid memory of Gregg is Ozzie Smith mocking his weight after being ejected in NY. I love how Ozzie has a spoteless image but committed one of the most juvenile acts in the game's history.
  13. Nothing like a "told you so" post. We'll see what his #'s look like in October. I think everyone here would be thrilled if he hit .300 and hit for power for the length of a season. However, the odds on that happening are long. I don't think he was saying "I told you so"; I think he was opining that the majority of the bd. is wrong about Jones. As I am part of that majority, I: a) hope he's right; b) hope I was wrong; and c) am not offended by what he wrote.
  14. This is it; last and best chance to get back into this thing. We have until the ASB; if we can cut it to 5 or 6 by then, you never know.
  15. Good analysis; most of this presupposes that there is some truth in point no. 2, of course. Requires you to lend credibility to what Bruce posted. Based on his years in the buiz, I am willing to do that.
  16. Nevermind.
  17. No, not really. Way to keep your head up. Could we at least all agree to hope for one?
  18. So they're tougher to pitch to but easier to get out? that seems utterly nonsensical. The definition of "tough to pitch to" should be "difficult to keep off base" Question: Where did I write that they are "tougher to picth to". You seem to be having trouble understanding my thesis, so let me simplify it: You didn't have to, that's the quote we're all talking about And what about the rest of my statement...
  19. Its great - if he can keep it up, maybe when Lee gets back this lineup can make some noise.
  20. So they're tougher to pitch to but easier to get out? that seems utterly nonsensical. The definition of "tough to pitch to" should be "difficult to keep off base" Question: Where did I write that they are "tougher to picth to". You seem to be having trouble understanding my thesis, so let me simplify it: 1) Minor league hitters are not as good at hitting as MLers; 2) Minor league hitters also have a different approach (i.e., mental approach) to hitting than do MLers; 3) ML pitchers are more accustomed to pitching to ML hitters, and thus are more familiar / comfortable with their approach; 4) Therefore, minor league hitters present a special "problem" for ML pitchers b/c they take a different approach to hitting. This approach does not make up the gap between MLers and minor leaguers (obviously), but perhaps it causes some problems for longtime ML pitchers who find themselves on rehab assignments.
  21. Barrett is in. Assuming he is still playing this way on July 1, Jones deserves consideration.
  22. If they can broom the Cards and take 2 of 3 from the Stros, that's a pretty good sign.
  23. Agreed. If Aardsma continues to pitch as he has since being recalled, we'll have a very nice problem. And I forgot to give props to Nevin for hgis first HR as Cubbie; it was a blast.
  24. I am not sure this means that minor leaguers are harder to get out, b/c to say that would be illogical. Maybe the difference is simply that major leaguers are better hitters than minor leaguers (physically), but their mental approach is different. Thus, when established ML pitchers do rehab, they witness a different mental approach to hitting as performed by weaker players.
