  1. I don't follow the amateur player rankings at all, so can someone tell me: - How much variance is their between major industry publications' player ranking lists? - Has anyone done a study on whether industry publication rankings have any value in terms of predicting future outcomes? Or are their one or two such publications that have better track records?
  2. Your post kind of reminds me of the guys at work who have been there 40 years and reject anything new or different because, 'We've never done it that way before!"
  3. Rizz - arguably the most under appreciated, upper echelon player in the game over the last 4 to 5 years - is off to quite the slow start. Thought it would be interesting to track him in one thread as the season goes on. Rizz is effectively one month into his season, having played 26 games and made 122 PA's. As of this morning he's sporting an ugly .213 / .295 / .370 slash line. He's also "off" relative to his career averages in a number of advanced stats: - LD% is down 3 points to 17% - Pull percentage is up 6% - Opposite field percentage is down 5% - Walk % is down nearly 7 points to 4.9% - BABIP is down 75 points at .209 Good news is that his hard contact % is virtually the same as past years, his medium contact % is up a good bit, and his soft contact % is down significantly. I haven't noticed anything different in his swing, but perhaps others have - note it below if you see something. Will update this periodically.
  4. Come-mere baby..... Yu sexy mutha' fucka
  5. They’re OF will look kind of old come 2019. Who’d have thought that as recently as this morning?
  6. Jorge seems fine with it
  7. This reminds me of when they forced infielders into the OF in the 90's - fee like it was their Jeff Kent era, but can't remember exactly. Its a very Metsy thing to do.
  8. With the difference making hitters more or less off the market (except Lucroy, who would cost too much in all likelihood), I'd settle for the "6th starter".
  9. Now that Reddick is off the market, could we have interest in Beltran? He obviously can still hit; not sure where he is defensively these days. Plug him in the two-hole and the lineup becomes even more of a nigthmare.
  10. Speaking of which....
  11. This. Especially when you throw-in what a good group these guys seem to be and how much fun they are unquestionably having.
  12. I just threw up. which of cease's 45 innings have been your fav so far Yeah, I'd probably like that fictional trade more than the actual one.
  13. That's fair point, though I wonder whether international signings at the top level become more difficult as the team gets better and more expensive. certainly our odds of drafting impact prospects goes down.
  14. I hope that its because we are trying to get him to agree to an extension. if we walk away from it because we couldn't get him there I'd have even more respect for Thoyer.
  15. These are my concerns as well. I am not losing any sleep whatsoever on dealing a poor man's Terry Mulholland and a 4th OF'er. I'd prefer to have kept Torres to acquire a young and controllable SP stud or the same type of position player, but selling high on him is a reasonable move. I just dislike the idea that this all of those chips are on the table for a three months of return. My view changes if Chapman is extended or we get something else of value.
  16. Yeah, but not all innings are created equal either. Leverage factors in.
  17. http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/jck.gif Oh man what will we do without a [expletive] RP we sent to the minors and a guy who can't hit Not what I meant by that - I can't believe the Yankees want Warren back under this or any circumstance.

  19. I have no worthwhile data to back this up, but I don't think we have ever been interested in Chapman due to this:
  20. I've hated him from the jump, but now he sucks (worst stretch of his career, IIRC), so he's a liability on top of everything else. Plus he has them play country music during his starts.
  21. He hasn't done much. But not standing out as a disaster is his new status quo. Yeah, he's not making impact plays at all, he's just not doing anything horribly wrong.
  22. Flacco has no one to throw to except Steve Smith, who is my age and currently injured.
