  1. Give him a shot. What can it hurt at this point? Exactly - that was what I meant by my post above. Give the kids a shot a la FL or the A's; could it really be any worse than the current nonsense? I'd rather see Montanez, Pie, Murton, Cedeno and EPatt fall all over themselves than watch freakin Jones, Pierre and Neifi lose 100 games. At least those guys will get better (probably).
  2. Like Dick Cheney on Fox News.
  3. Kurkjan reiterated what Stark said, noting the Cubs don't think he can hack it, but that they won't trade him unless they are blown away.

FYI: ESPN.com (via the Akron Journal) is reporting that Ilgauskas might be available. I don't think they would trade within the division, but I'd gladly have him. I don't know what we have that they'd like. Perhaps Duhon and The Chan-Man?

    Noooooooooooooo
  6. *sigh* I've said it before in a couple of other threads, I wouldn't be surprised if Prior doesn't pitch this year. I have no inside knowledge of course but just a "gut" feeling. Something is wrong with the guy. I already accepted the apparent fact he won't throw an inning for the Cubs this season, 2007 and beyond? 50-50 Makes it kind of hard to trade him for Tejada or Cabrera.
  7. especially considering that firing Baker will in no way improve the team's performance on the field. It will get people to put the torches and pitchforks down, however. Agreed - this team will still stink, we'll just have one fewer guy to rage at.
  8. The reason Cabrera has more doubles than Pujols is b/c Albert's doubles have been going over the fence on the fly.
  9. The 03' team probably overachieved; the 04' underachieved, and in a big way.
  10. So much for my fellow die-hards. I'm still one.
  11. Love it. Or trade Hendry for a bucket of KFC.
  12. I'm beginning to doubt that Hill will ever be a legit #3 starter in this league... I am also, but I wasn't implying that Hill would bthe no. 3. He could be the no. 5 or, if Ryu or Williams is better, not a starter at all. My point is to take a page from Beane's book, strip the rotation (excepting Z) and begin again.
  13. There was another time they won three straight from us. When was that again?
  14. Trading Mark for a proven stud hitter or a gaggle of very highly rated prospects would be a good first step to breaking this thing up and putting it back together again. Next year's rotation could look like: Z Marshall Hill Guzman Williams/Ryu/Wade Miller/Veteran FA? If the vet FA were somone with proven 2nd starter nos., I could live with that (Schmidt? Zito? Isn't Mulder in his walk year?). Could you?
  15. I personally go back to 2002 where we didn't dump Alou to make room for Vlad. Same thing (as you say) in 2003 with Tejada and in 2004 with Beltran. They have done that sort of thing for years. The last time they bit their lip and signed the best and most predictably proficient FA on the mkt was Dawson in freakin' 87'. Recently could have had indisputable upgrades like Guerrero, Tejada, Hampton (he was really good back then but lost it at Coors), Thome, to name a few. EDIT: Instead ofthose guys, we get people like Kal Daniels, Danny Jackson, HRod, Dave Smith, Goose Gossage at age 42, Jacque, Luis Gonzalez (pre HR outburst; I won't speculate as to the cause), Blauser...the freakin list goes on and on.
  16. He's great deadline fodder.
  17. There are far more you's than I's, unfortunately: Pierre will be just fine. Good blend of young and "old". ARam poised for abosolute stardom. Jerome Williams has 2nd or 3rd starter stuff and nos. We have a wealth of major league-ready young pitching. And now for the big one: JH is just biding his time will make a major splash to improve this team. :pukel: #-o :eye:

I can't see Pax drafting anyone who is a defensive liability at this point.
  19. It's incredibly wide spread. Everybody hates him here. Having spent the majority of my childhood in NY, I can say that Yankees fans are not known for their rationality.
  20. To be fair - some of the 03' Fish and whether they were developed in the FL system: Pierre (no) Castillo (yes) Lowell (no) Lee (no) Conine (no) Holly (no) Gonzalez (yes?) IRod (no) I think the majority of their starting pitching was developed in their system, though its arguable whether Burnett was. I say "yes". Urbina and most of the pen were not.
  21. I agree - if he doesn't get in there ought to be an investigation. He was so dominant its almost unfathomable. Imagine if the Sox had actually put some players around hm during his prime (other than Ventura) and had starters other than Blck Jack. And please stop measuring HOF-worthiness based only on HRs. The fact that Sosa has more - steroid aided or not - does not make him a better hitter than Thomas. Thomas was and is a much better hitter.
  22. Its frightening when you see a team not only got blown away, but also snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Bad teams find ways to lose. This is a bad team. If they were playing all of their AAA and AA guys like the Fish, I might be able to live with it, but they are mostly old.
  23. Team record by second hitter CUBS are 6-15 when Cedeno hits in the second spot CUBS are 1-1 when Pierre hits in the second spot CUBS are 6-3 when Walker hits in the second spot CUBS are 1-1 when Bynum hits in the second spot CUBS are 1-4 when Hairston hits in the second spot CUBS are 1-1 when Perez hits in the second spot CUBS are 2-1 when Murton hits in the second spot Its settled then - Murton should hit second until Lee gets back, and if not, it should be Bynum....
