  1. ESPN 1000 played a sound bite from Lou wherein he indicates that many changes will be coming on Monday, but what he would not specifiy what they would be. Levine speculates Marmol could be the closer.
  2. Agreed. It would not surprise me if Perry is shown the door after the season ends (a la Terry Shea with the Bears) assuming that the hitting doesn't become more consistent.
  3. This is freaking fabulous news and might lead to a major change in offensive production.
  4. No, it's right. "Lack" is a singular noun, therefore the singular "has" (rather than the plural "have") is the correct matching. Even though "walks" is plural, because it is part of a preposition that's not what has vs. have is supposed to agree with. :!: The Deadly Viper Grammar and Spelling Squad have/has lost credibility!
  5. Wow, if they can hold on here (knock on wood) this has the potential to get very interesting,
  6. I am stuck in an airport - please tell me how things are going so far tonight.
  7. There is an article in the NY Post today that has the Orioles talking to the Mets about Chan Ho Park. Sheesh they are scraping from the bottom of the barrell. Why not just promote somone, even if he stinks? They aren't catching the Sox anyway, and the WC is very likely to come from the Central.
  8. And the Angels pick up Jacque's salary. Rodriguez is the Angels' #7 prospect per BA. Anyone have Jim's cell number? I'd like to give my stamp of approval. I can't imagine that Jim would turn this down. Rodriguez would be maning SS by Sept. 1, based on those stats.
  9. I'd love to get a legit everyday man out there. No kidding. Soriano probably needs name tags to identify who is he playing out there with on a daily basis.
  10. The pen hasn't been very good recently. This team continues to be disjointed in at least one important aspect; if its not the lineup, its the pen. If its not the starting pitching, its the lineup.
  11. Would that make one an African Latin American?
  12. are you referring to barretts ability to gain weight? And Leon is getting larrrrrrrgerrrr. There's a sale at Penny's!!!
  13. Eyre for Encarnacion. Encarnacion and Zambrano to NYY for ARod, a minor league pitcher and cash.
  14. If the Bulls win Game 5, the Pistons will have an enormous amount of pressure squarely upon their shoulders.
  15. Jesse has asthma and doesn't want to breath the air there?
  16. Soriano should be hitting second or fifth. Solo HRs from a guy who could knock out 50 in a year are a waste.
  17. Dear G-d what next? In terms of major sports, the only eye-brow raiser that I can recall is the lack of black head coachs in major college football, particulalry in the South. (Advance apologies to OMC and Vance, BTW) Not that I want Jesse Jackson to champion that cause either.
  18. Dusty's right about some of the spending issues though. I still believe there is ample evidence to suggest that MacPhail was tight with the purse strings and gave Hendry a hard time, though Hendry must assume much of teh blame as well. I know we were never in the bottom rung in spending, but didn't our payroll go down coming into 06'? What kind of sense did that make?
  19. Z and Cedeno or Izturis for Tejada and a AA level pitching prospect.
  20. Would Baltimore do Z for Tejada and a prospect? Would we?
  21. I would trade Z for immediate help at SS or RF. I think we have enough internal pitching depth to fill the rotation. What we lack is position players who can hit.
  22. Hendry has done a very bad job. I am not sure if he is a "bad GM". That sounds a bit general for me. He's done a nice job with building pitching talent in the minors and we have some nice results of that on the ML level. He also has done a decent job at signing FA pitchers (I am going largely off Lily and Marquis and how they have done so far). He has done a poor job drafting position players, and isn't very good at judging FA position players either. He's done a pretty good job at swinging trades. He did a very poor job in dealing with Baker. He did a very poor job of dealing with media distractions and players who allowed themselves to be distracted by the media. Then there is his teams' W-L record over the last three seasons. Piss poor. Is he a bad GM? Or has he done a bad job? I dunno. I am not sure it matters. He probably should have lost his job last year, but I suspect that upper management feels MacPhail was largely responsible for what has happened.
  23. Its not a criminal probe...yet...
