  1. Wait, what's the reason? Lengthen the productive years of his career for one.
  2. Intriguing. I could almost guarantee that his offense would go way up if he was able to focus almost solely on that. Put him in RF. I'm sure he's got a good arm. If he doesn't have to catch I would bet he is good for something like .290 / .370 / .475 and 20-25 HRs. I'd be more than willing to take the other side of that bet. OK. Why? The guy has put very solid nos. for the past three or four years all while playing the most physically demanding position on the field. He's patient at the plate, and we have seen him wear down at the end of the season on two occassions that I can recall. There are several catchers who have made the move to 2B, 3B, the OF, etc. Why not Barrett?

  4. If he's such a bright guy why did he leave Hendry as GM this past offseason? Good point. To his credit, however, I haven't read anything that indicates he is giving Hendry much room for error either. Moreover, he seems to have implemented a no-excuses mentality that was sorely lacking for many years under MacPhail. In other words, the jury is still out on McDonough, IMO.
  5. This is another reason to make Barrett an OFer or 2B.
  6. A major indictment of upper management - Hendry and McPahil - IMO. Let's muddy the waters a bit. The Cardinals weren't for real all last year and still won it all  Looking at the Crew lately, we might be able to be pretty stinky and still have meaningful games in September. Isn't that amazing? Two years in a row this division has been nothing short of brutal. What's in the water in the Midwest? I guess if there's one team that's really not coming through, it would have to be us. I mean, we are the one truly high capacity payroll franchise in the division.
  7. I guarantee that Hendry will not sell if the team is within 10 at the ASB. He's trying to save his job.
  8. I'd love to have Beane here, but didn't he turn down a truck load of cash from the Red Sox a couple of years ago? Why would he want to come here now? My read on Beane is that he prefers the small mkt challenge, and appreciates that it comes with less pressure. Think about it - if the team ever flounders his job isn't as likely to be on the line, nor his head on the block (like Hendry's is).
  9. Anyone who thinks we are catching the Brewers is crazy
  10. Ha. Good one. Now that we are done being funny, who might are the potentials?
  11. Eyre is horrible, but then so is our lineup.
  12. Geez that's scary. Imagine how his family feals watching that. And that's a classless move by Hopper.
  13. Ideally I'd aquire a corner OFer in a trade package that includes Murton, put Floyd on waivers, bring up Pie, and tell Jacque to get comfortable next to Gerald Perry and get some pointers.
  14. Except he was pretty solid in 2004 and 2006 too. I'm up for the idea of buying low on Cordero, but trading Dempster or Guzman for him defeats the purpose. And the idea that Guzman couldn't reach the level Cordero has been at, never mind the level that he's currently at, is silly. Agreed. So how about Murton and Marmol for Cordero and Church? 8-[

  16. Ichiro: AVG .335 | HR 4 | RBI 20 | OBP .390 | SLG .457 Great start. Price would be steep. Think Pie and Guzman, IMO. Dye: AVG .235 | HR 10 | RBI 25 | OBP .292 | SLG .469 Tough to know what Williams would want. Baldelli: AVG .204 | HR 5 | RBI 12 | OBP .268 | SLG .358 Yuck. He's only making 750k this year though. Ibanez: AVG .280 | HR 1 | RBI 24 | OBP .329 | SLG .387 Meh. The price shouldn't be high. Lofton: AVG .262 | HR 4 | RBI 12 | OBP .343 | SLG .396 Not bad for a 39 yr old. Wouldn't cost too much to get either. I highly doubt Seattle takes that deal for Ichiro. I don't recall saying that would be the whole deal. But since you commented, Mr. Alderson, who do you think Seattle would want?

  18. Tori Hunter: AVG .314 | HR 11 | RBI 41 | OBP .350 | SLG .599 Willy Mo Pena: AVG .269 | HR 3 | RBI 6 | OBP .356 | SLG .500 Willy earns just 2 mill this year and is under control through next season. 25 yrs of age; only 55 ABs so far this year. Considered a butcher in RF by many. Trade idea: Howry for Pena? Hunter is 31 and going into his walk year; Twins not expected to re-up him, and they have not looked good so far this year. But sheesh the man has an OPS of about .950 this year. Trade idea: Jacque for Hunter. Kidding. The price would be steep and I am not sure I'd pay it.
  19. As I have said quite often here, I like to take a look at where a team is on Memorial Day in order to get an idea if they are for real or not. For example: Braves are for real; Yanks are not. What does this tell us about our Cubs, a mere 5.5 games back of first place with both the Brewers and Stros struggling? That our division sucks. This team is mediocre at best and still has a very realistic shot at winning the division as of Memorial Day. Wow. If Hendry is smart, he will go out and add a corner OFer or SS. If he does and the starting pitching continues as it has, we should run away with this mess by September.
  20. Murton and Marmol for Cordero and Church.
  21. I freakin hate these complaints. How many day games do they play at home now? About 55? 60? Get over it already. They had a freakin day off before they headed out to the coast this past weekend. You tired, Aramis? Ask Lou for a bleeping day off.
  22. Having Eckstein on the list is a friggin joke. How about Clemens, arguably the greatest pitcher since WWII. Randy Johnson? How the hell is Eckstein sniffing that list? Jody Davis is more deserving.
  23. Having done insurance defense work (employment related) for three years, I question your asserstion that insurance companies fight each and every claim that comes in. In my line of work the opposite was true.
  24. Truffle's point is well-taken. I knew a ton more about criminal law, PI, real estate, estates and trusts, and property back when I was in law school. Little practical knowledge mind you, but I knew the red-letter law. Now I am an expert in Labor and Employment and related subject matters (contracts, administrative law, unfair competition issues, some corp. law, etc.), but have forgotten 50% of the red letter stuff in other subjects that I learned in law school.
  25. Actually its beyond negligent - its reckless / wilful and wanton conduct.
