  1. I've posted on this site drunk before, but my life isn't interesting enough to drunkenly rant about. No surprise I'm getting killed - can't compete with hilarity. A sugar high from cream soda doesn't count. :) D'oh! Andy, don't take this personally: I think everyone likes you. You seem to be both a gentleman and scholar...albeit one who is wrong a lot. I don't like your politics or the school you associate yourself with. You probably paint your face green and gold on Saturdays during the Fall, and I hate that. You lost my vote on that basis alone. Plus, you are up against a man who just created one of the all-time great threads. Tough match up in any case.
  2. I voted abuck b/c I actually agree with Dobson's point (in spite of the fact that I teased him and he didn't get the joke), and because the attorneys and soon-to-be-attnys need to "stay true to the street". I also enjoy some of abuck's sarcatic stuff, even if he does go a bit far sometimes. Thing is, Sanders often goes farther and frequently "hits n' runs", IMO.
  3. I get why some folks don't like OMC's politics. That kind of thing tends polarize, especially in today's environment. I don't understand why the fact that OMC played college ball and is proud of it is such a problem for so many. If I played DI ball in the nation's best conference I'd be damn proud of myself, and rightfully so. Can someone explain this to me?
  4. Brown is an unrestricted free agent. If he doesn't retire, I suspect he's going to be looking for a ring. Can't see him agreeing to go to Minn, or any other non-contender other than his home town team (New Orleans), no matter what the salary. PJ's dollar value is infinitely higher in a potential sign and trade than on the open market. he might sign for vet minimum for a team. in a sign and trade, he could make a significant amount more than that. Moreover, a one year deal at such a price behooves the team that receives him b/c they will be able to clear that cap space for the 08' FA class.
  5. Bulls get: Kobe and Craig Smith (PF from Minny) Minny gets: Gordon, Noc (sign n' trade), PJ Brown (sign n trade) and the Bulls' No. 1 (no. 9 overall) LA gets: Garnett and Chris Duhon I ran this through the ESPN trade checker and - depending on the salaries involved in resigning Noc and Brown - it could work. The Bulls might also have to sign n' trade someone like Sweetney. I think this makes a lot of sense for all three teams. Bulls are left with : Hinrich Kobe Deng Thomas Wallace Lakers: Duhon (or a PG they pick with their No. 1) Maurice Evans (or a SG they get with their pick. Perhaps the kid from USC?) Odom Garnett Bynum Minny: Foye Gordon Ricky Davis Noc Blount - Plus they can use their pick and the Bulls' pick, allowing them to pull in Brandon Wright (PF) at No. 7 and Hawes or Yi (Centers) at No. 9. That leaves them looking likes this: Foye Gordon Davis/Noc Noc/Wright Blount/Hawes Make sense?
  6. Tree, I voted for you again, but my only complaint is that you seem to have ceased creating such wonderful artwork.
  7. Agreed. If Brewer some how falls to them Pax had better be on the phone ready to trade Gordon or Deng for a big man or a Kobe.
  8. Small difference between BA and OBP does not bode well.
  9. My voting record is between me and my G-d. My fave philosopher is Jesus Christ. If you are not with me you are with the terrorists and Neifi Perez. SSR is part of the Axis of Evil. The ouster of Dusty Baker has made the world a safer place. We must remove all enemies of freedom, including Jim Hendry.
  10. USS b/c his contributions to the political threads are very good.
  11. Think I might need my Dobson-to-English dictionary for that one.
  12. I think you've missed my point. I'm all for the Bulls landing a superstar on the cheap and becoming a consistent championship-contending team. I don't want the Bulls to give up too much for Kobe or any other superstar and turn into the Minnesota Timberwolves of the East, though. I also think you're wrong about NBA players not developing. Deng, Gordon and Tyrus all have significant room for improvement, and Deng and Gordon are borderline All-Stars in terms of productivity already. EDIT to add: How many titles did Dominik Wilkins win? Charles Barkley? Reggie Miller? Kevin Garnett? Talent wins, no doubt about it, but gutting a team to land that one mythic superstar is a fools errand in my mind. Wilkins, Barkley and Miller played in a very different era, IMO. Hard to compare. But since you did, Barkley, Wilkins and Miller ran into someone better than they (I know you know hoops well enough to know who I am referring to). Barkley and Miller were very close to winning a title and came up just short, in fact (though Miller was stopped by Shaq and Kobe, again, better superstars). Garnett, IMO, is a victim of horrendous mismanagement that makes Hendry look like a genuis.
  13. If this competition has taught me anything, it's the inevitability of slighting people you like. I have liked just about everyone I have voted against. Oh, the tragedy of it all. Its a damn shame I tell you. Nevermind. Here's to us and those like us; damn few us of left.
  14. I agree with goony here. I don't think the "waiting to develop" thing works quite as well in the NBA. You need a star. You might argue the Pistons are an exception. Ok. Look at the current version of the Pistons. They didn't develop - they are a hodge-podge of parts all of whom (excepting Prince) played in at least one other city. In other words they changed the pieces around until they found a winning formula. They are an exception rather than the rule, and they got beat this year b/c the overwhelming best player on the court played for the other team. The Bulls can't win with the team they have now. They'll be good, no doubt. But the Detroit series illustrated just how weak they are up front and just how few of them have the ability to get their own shot off (Deng and Gordon, but Gordon can't do it agianst the best defenders). Spencer Hawes won't change that. Kobe Bryant will.
  15. He's interested in politics and international events, not Muslims. It just so happens that the Muslim community (particulalry the extremist sect) has gotten a ton of attention in the world press over the last 6 years. Or hadn't you noticed?
  16. Where's OMC?! Attnys of the world unite!!!!
  17. What exactly happened to IMB! ? There was a thread earlier in Rants that seemed to imply he got banned or something, but then I saw him posting in it.
  18. Ya down with OMC? (Yeah you know me)
  19. That franchise has been down for what, ten years now? What track record does MacPhail that makes them think he can get them back in the race with Yanks and Sox? For a dozen years he had a high payroll team that could have spent more but he apparently refused to approve it. Now he has to keep up with two 200 million dollar payrolls, one on the rise (Jays), and a young team with talent whose arrow is pointing up (Rays). Best of luck, Andy.
  20. Ha. I kind of realized that a while ago and thought it made no sense, but figured what the heck. In any case, thanks for your vote. No new taxes!
  21. +1 I don't understand this line of thinking. As fans we are allowed to have divided attention, I don't see the problem in "worrying" about how the Brewers will fare for the rest of the season even if we are struggling. I don't think that is the point. I think the point is, from the Cubs perspective, what are you doing worrying about any other team when your own house is in such a state of disrepair?
