  1. Just curious - when have I been known to post untrue rumors around here? I heard it on the radio. At least two others have heard it on the same station and at least one other. Take it with a grain of salt, but again: Don't kill the messenger.
  2. FYI - I checked some the usual places and have not seen an confirmation beyond what I heard said during the ESPN Radio update. Please don't kill the messenger.
  3. Soto at AAA: .341 69 226 12 55 30 55 .412 .584 .996
  4. Just heard it on ESPNRadio 1000 in Chicago. Geovany will be called up; no word on who is going down. 3 teams are interested in trading for Cesar Izturis. No word on who.
  5. Noting against your trade idea, but I see no reason to mortage the future for KGJ. If the Cubs are taking on a good portion of the deferred salary they shouldn't have to give up much to get him. I'd be willing to give them their pick of two position prospects or one pitching prospect but they have to take Jones. But truely, I don't think the Cubs should trade for KGJ at all. He's having a good year, but one he's not likely to repeat ever again. I see your point, but are we really mtging the future by trading Gallagher, Petrick and EPatt? The deal doesn't include Colvin, Veal, etc.
  6. Mr. Bush, is that you? You should just post a thread listing acceptable topics of discussion.
  7. Griffey likes Atl b/c he lives in Orlando in the offseason, IIRC. How about Gallagher, Petrick, and EPatt for Griff and some cash? Me likey this lineup: Soriano Fontenot Lee Griff ARam DeRosa Floyd Bowen We ought to catch the Brew Crew with that.
  8. I don't get the "he likes hip-hop and Tupac so he must be black" thing. I am a 31 yrd old white dude who proudly includes NWA and Ice Cube albums on my Ipod and in my CD collection.
  9. What's really hilarious is that you don't have a basic understanding of the bottom-line nature of business and the importance of unique assets.
  10. I always thought of him as a sort of blackened goat. Maybe medium rare color.
  11. That's a rather ignorant statement. He is immensly popular in both Seattle and overseas. He's the main reason (in terms of revenue creation) they could afford to ink Sexson and Beltre, and took a run at Schmidt last Winter. His value to that franchise is not based in baseball stats alone. Comparing him to A-Rod - whose "q" rating is well below Ichiro's at this point - is an apples to oranges comparison. Ichiro is a very rare commodity and thus his value cannot be analyzed in typical terms.
  12. Make no mistake - this is an investment in Ichiro the mkting sensation as much as it is Ichiro the baseball player. This is business folks. He's worth the cash in light of the revenue he brings in. Oh, and he's a pretty good ballplayer too.
  13. No. It was Duquette: http://www.mikesmets.com/2005/11/key_new_york_mets_free_agents_2.html People like to blame Phillips for the Kennedy Assasination. He had some hits and many more misses, just like most avg GMs. He's not the worst GM I ever saw. He wasn't good, but not the worst as many seem to think he was.
  14. Make that 2.
  15. I may get flamed at for saying this, but I though we missed Uncle Cliffy's bat a bit this weekend.
  16. TruffleShuffle is trying to figure out how a player with the fourth highest VORP among ALL position players can be considered "essentially worthless at his position." B/c there a people around here who bash Ichiro so much its like he owes them money.
  17. I'd be shocked. How many times have we been down that road with those guys? They aren't getting all our good players for him, so unless they are willing to get realistic.... I'd be stunned on two levels: a) The Wolves become more reasonable and take a Gordon-Noc-Duhon-and one of Noah or Thomas type package; and b) Pax shows that he has the stones to make a deal like that. To me, Pax drafted a role player at 9 last week. He has at least one other Noah-type in Noc, who he just shelled out a huge amount to keep. How do you find PT for all these energy types at PF? I hope the answer is that you don't and you trade one of the three instead. I think Thomas is most likely to be gone based on how Skiles and Pax seem to value players.
  18. Again, I don't think this is about Pie's bat so much as the need to showcase Jones for a trade.
  19. That's a ton of cash for a role player, IMO. Color me unimpressed with Pax so far this offseason. I reserve the right to alter that opinion if he trades for KG.
  20. I think Piniella and hendry figured on Jones being long gone by now. Since he isn't they have to do something to make him more attractive to other teams. Unfortunately this has coincided with Pie's struggles and Pagan playing decent.
  21. I think we do have to watch our back; the Cards are lurking, though we're certainly better overall than they are. Crew just lost Hall for 6-8 weeks. Big loss. We certainly set up as the best team in the div. at least. I am excited.
  22. I sense that these fellas are at least in part being showcased. To bad Bob Barker retired.
