  1. No thanks. Rather just have Cedeno. What happened to SS II?
  2. I'd rather have Church. Soriano Church Lee ARam Floyd DeRosa Fontenot/Theriot Kendall
  3. To me, Church projects as a better player than Murt b/c he has more power. I wonder if playing cavernous RFK is hurting him? I like him as an everyday RFer rather than just a 4th OFer. His slugging at home (.392) is 60 points less than on the road (.450). That seems pretty significant to me. He's capable of putting up a .360 OBP. If he slugs .450 with the Cubs that's an .810 OPS. Not great, but not bad.
  4. I'd rather see Glaus at 1B - could extend the productive years of his career there, given his injury history. Lee is a fantastic athlete and thus I think could play RF. My only question is whether he has the arm to play out there. Note: I have not waded through all the pages of this thread to determine whether anyone else floated this idea or analyzed it.
  5. Just trying to think along with Bowden here (a strenuous exercise): - Need to sell Dunn on DC - Will be tough to do that through free agency b/c we have never won here and I will have stiff competition in the form of NYY, Boston, and perhaps both Chicago teams. - If I get him here for the final 1/4 of the season then he might enjoy living in DC, playing for Acta and being reunited with Kearns. - He will thus be easier to re-sign.
  6. If he is in his walk yr and would be cheap to acquire (one mid level prospect and a single-A), I'd do it. He's probably a better option than Stairs insomuch as he is in better shape, can play all 3 OF positions, etc.
  7. The Daily News is a rag, but its a rag with teeth. They have much more credibility in the sports arena than most newspapers with back pages. What a year this is shaping up to be for Barry.
  8. I wouldnt doubt that one bit..These guys are young,..Im 22, im the same way, all I do is go and chase women even when I have to work at 9 AM,and theyre ballplayers know they can get whatever they want..And we kno the south american players guys lovvve the blondes even if they have wife and kids..I gurantee alot of these players go out to clubs and have gotten with and cheated on thier wives I am pretty sure I told this story here once before, but I went to law school with a gal who was dating a certain White Sox player. He had a wife and kids (who she had been introduced to). It was explained to her that this is part of the deal when you marry a MLBer. Wait..So your saying the player tells his wife " ok,just so you kno,im going to be out nailing other women" and the wives are cool with it? That's about the size of it.

  10. Yeah, when you think about it: early-20's kid; flush with cash (their min wage is my easy street); probably grew up lower class or dirt poor in a 3rd world country; big-city with a ton of hot women and places to find them. Add to that a manager who apparently looked the other way and made excuses for everything. Its bound to take some getting used to.
  11. Forgot to post this last night after I heard it on ESPN Radio. Levine was talking about Cedeno and the possibility that he is a "AAAA" player. Levine stated that he thinks Cedeno is not such a player b/c of his young age. He also said that he played badly last year not b/c of his skills or talent, but b/c he wasn't rested. He clarified what he meant when he said "Chicago is a fun town with a great nightlife and Ronny didn't get in early enough to get rested." Looks like Ronny might have been spending too much time with these guys: http://www.rochestergoesout.com/mov/n/nighta1lg.jpg Anyway, he said Ronny has his head together this year and has learned his lesson.
  12. Jacque and Eyre are ok if you use them appropriately, which is to say sparingly.
  13. Sweet Moses that would be quite a take for say-Czar.
  14. In all seriousness, until Jones cools off. Jones is hitting .357/.424/.464 in July. The Cubs aren't going to hand Pie the CF job back unless and until Jones cools off. In all seriousness, Jones wasn't hot when Pie was getting jerked in and out of the lineup, and up and down from the minors. To stick with the Cubs, you better be good quickly. If you take time to find your stride, you're out of luck. You may or may not be right, but I think your statement ignores the context of the Pie / Jones situation and the franchise in general. They are trying desperately to trade Jones. This is likely difficult to do if he is picking splinters out of his butt. They also have a GM who is trying to save his job and a manager who wants productive players in the lineup b/c he wants to win now. Whether you or I agree with the "win now" strategy is irrelevant. It informs their decisions. Thus Theriot and Fontenot have survived, Pie has not.
  15. I read on ESPN.com that he was throwing 40 mph in pain, and then out of nowhere and for no apparent reason got his velocity back w/out discomfort. Sounds flukey to me, but who knows.
  16. I am reading into the fact that Cedeno and Murt were not called-up as follows: theya re both torching the ball in AAA, but would no doubt play worse if they were up here. Perhaps their relative trade values are enhanced by their play at AAA?
  17. Let me be clear - I don't view Ward's injury as an enormous loss, but he does back-up Lee pretty nicely and has done well in his PH role. He's a nice player to have around on a winning team.
  18. Gold star Here here. Get a freakin' corner OFer or SS, Jim!!!! Now that Ward is badly hurt and Floyd looks like Glass Joe, Jim's hand may be forced.
  19. This whole thread reminds me of Dr. Strangelove: "Gentlemen! No fighting in the war room!!!" That might be the most underrated line in the history of film.
  20. Levine was on ESPN Radio earlier and described Ward's injury as serious. Says he could be out for the rest of the season. If so, add another item to Hendry's shopping list.
  21. Those who are giving reds44 the business need to get a life. What the hell is wrong with posting rumors in the transactions forum? For the love of G-d the title of the thread begins with the word "rumor".
  22. Me too. Are we ready to declare... http://images.bcdb.com/pictures/other4/bogus.gif
