  1. No kidding. What an incredibly bad trade. This borders on the the Pierre trade in terms of the suck factor. Wow. Just wow.
  2. I agree, unless getting Gagne allows us to spin Dempster off for the OFer we so desperately need.
  3. Make it so, Jim. Gomes in RF would be delicious. Bat him in the 5 or 6 hole and he'll thrive, IMO.
  4. I'd also like to mention that the AL is top-heavy. They have three crap-tacular teams at the bottom of each div, plus a fourth that is on the border: D Rays: 40-65 KC: 47-58 CWS: 48-57 TX: 46-59 There really isn't much depth beyond the 6 "heavy weights" (Bos, NYY, Det., Clev., Halos, and Seattle.) It is worth noting that Seattle's pythag. says they should be a mere 2 games over .500. Likewise, both Anaheim and Cleveland should have three fewer wins than they do. In fact, the only AL contender with a significant "positive" differential between their actual wins and their pythag wins is the Yankees, who should have 7 more wins than they do. Point is that the prevailing view that the AL is head-and-shoulders above the NL may in fact be hyperbole.
  5. Sure, except this Ryan Church bats lefty, can catch a flyball and score from third on a ball hit to shortstop. The only valid argument in that post is that he is a left handed bat. Plus he plays CF and hits for power when he isn't at RFK.
  6. We've all been round n' round on the Hendry analysis over the years. I think you can sum it up Hendry got off to a very good start and inexplicably did poorly during the 04' offseason, 05', and 06'. He's had several great succeses (ARam and Barrett come to mind, Lilly and Soriano look great) as well as some very well documented failures.
  7. I don't care what anyone says about him as a ballplayer, good, bad or otherwise... But listening to him call games with Chip made blood come pouring out of my ears. There was a moment during a broadcast when Ricky Gutierrez, just having been referred to by Chip as "G-Man", cracked a big HR, and Carter screams, "FORGET G-MAN, THEY SHOULD CALL HIM H-MAN!!!" ...and there was just dead air in the booth for a little while. A stronger word than terrible is needed to describe Carter as a color man or announcer.
  8. The lawyer who filed it ought to be disciplined.
  9. Again, in case you missed it the first time:
  10. Dear Mr. Law: There are only 15 teams with currently w/ a record of .500 of better at last check. Accordingly, you are likely to play half your games against teams with a record of .500 or better, and half against teams that are under .500. If you go 40 and 41 against the teams over .500 and 55-26 against the teams under .500 you finish with (**gasp!**) 96 wins.
  11. That's very different from the assertion that he was "terrible", which is what I was responding to. In other words, you completely missed the point of my post or decided that you would ignore it. . Said the guy who posted this:
  12. Near as I can tell he took the first shot. I am mearly responding. But he hit me first!! Don't make me seperate you two. OK, mom, I won't.
  13. Near as I can tell he took the first shot. I am mearly responding.
  14. Let's re-focus to the point of this convo: The guy hit nearly 400 HRs. While this does not mean he was good, it does mean he was not terrible. Why are you having so much trouble understanding this?
  15. you say that as if the Cubs have had hitters go elsewhere and blossom into great hitters since...oh, let's say anytime in the past 20-25 years. Joe Carter wasn't to shabby now was he, I believe he has a couple rings on his finger! I wasn't talking about just hitters I was talking about any player, pitcher, batter and ballgirl for that matter. Joe Carter was pretty terrible. No he wasn't: http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/cartejo01.shtml I hadn't realized that having a baseball reference page made a baseball player not terrible. And I hadn't realized that you are blind and cannot see the link. Makes me wonder how you read the rest of the posts here. Temporary vision? I was commenting on the fact that you simply offered up a link without any possible discussion as to why Joe Carter would or wouldn't be "terrible". If I was 'blind' and couldn't 'see the link', how would I know that it was a baseball reference page? Work on your insults guy. I wasn't being literal, I was simply commenting on the fact that that his stats speak for themselves. Apparently you are not able to understand them. Or perhaps you do not understand or know the definition of "terrible". Shall I post something for you on that also?

Joe Carter wasn't to shabby now was he, I believe he has a couple rings on his finger! I wasn't talking about just hitters I was talking about any player, pitcher, batter and ballgirl for that matter. Joe Carter was pretty terrible. Sarcasm? Terrible might be too much, but he certainly wasn't as good as people make him out to be. He was mediocre for just about all of his career. Yeah, "terrible" would be a bit much. This is terrible: http://www.baseball-reference.com/p/perezne01.shtml And which people would you be refering to? I didn't see anyone in here alleging that he was anything but a tradeable commodity who would have been productive had he remained a Cub.
  18. We would get a shot at him first, no?

  20. A guess: b/c most of the NL contenders would have no where to put him and couldn't absorb the salary? Braves: Renteria Phils: Rollins Mets: Reyes Brewers: Hardy (and no way they absorb the salary) Arizona: Drew (O's would probably take him in a trade) Pads: Greene (O's might take him back in a trade) Dodgers: Furcal
  21. you say that as if the Cubs have had hitters go elsewhere and blossom into great hitters since...oh, let's say anytime in the past 20-25 years. Joe Carter - traded 23 years ago. :D
  22. Yea, I heard that, too. A lot of times reporters don't realize just how absurd and stupid what they're reporting is. I'll believe it when I see it. Even Hendry isn't that incompetent. No? I say "no", but we will see.
  23. I know I don't normally say this kind of thing, but I'd be leading the charge. "Have fun storming the castle!!!"
