  1. Top prospect(s) and a proven pre-arbitration ML regular. The Cubs don't have what it would take. Probably not, but how about Hill, Gallagher, Marmol and Pie? That would give the Twins a replacement closer or a top-flight set up guy if they re-up Nathan (Marmol), two starters, and a replacement for Tori Hunter (Pie) who would very likely thrive on the Metrodome turf. Our rotation: Z Santana Lilly Marshall Marquis Hot damn!!!!
  2. Sullivan (I know, I know) speculates this monrning that Terry Ryan has to listen to offers for both Santana and Nathan b/c they will each get enormous deals after their contracts expire next season. I'd sell my soul to get Santana. What would the Cubs have to give?
  3. Holy cow, you are the King of Hyperbole lately. I think the reason it doesn't seem like the Brewers are choking is that they do not have much credibility or history of winning. If the Yanks had been up 8 games and lost the lead it would be a choke. Same for the Red Sox, Braves, Mets, etc. But when the Brewers do it they are just regressing back to where they should be (at least that is the perception).
  4. I'll Pie myself if we get Griffey. Make it happen, Jim.
  5. Color me confused and unimpressed. I mean, i could see this if it were sort of "garbage in-garbage out" move where we send Eyre or some other undesireable for him. I wouldn't mind having Payton around as a 4th or 5th OFer and PHer. Are we saving Murt for a bigger trade? I hope so.
  6. Some of you are forgetting that most of what is written this time of year is pure unadulterated speculation without basis in fact. Pie is going nowhere, unless someone named A. Rodriguez or M. Cabrera is coming back.
  7. That's sort of my point. Hendry is responsible for a bunch of terrible moves, but he has made good ones also. What has Krivskey ever done?
  8. OK, rather than use the term "team chemistry", just think of the Barrett trade as, "I don't want to play here anymore". If you think otherwise go back and listen to the interview he gave to MJ&H on ESPN 1000. He could barely contain himself.
  9. When you've got GMs like Hendry and Krivskey involved, it might. These little one-off cheap shots are getting annoying. Its not just you who is doing it, but it breaks-up an otherwise intelligent discussion. Is it a cheap shot or a retort based on quotes an actions by our current GM? Fair point. I guess it depends on you p-o-v. It seems like a generalization to me. I think Hendry has done some good things recently and to directly compare him to Krivskey is both irrational and unfair.
  10. I generally agree/hope that the Hamburgler will be able to pull off a decent trade for an power hitter. Hendry is pretty deft at making moves. I don't know. It seems entirely possible that he isn't willing to make any moves right now. I'm sure that he would if he thought he could bring in a good player, but all signs seem to point to the Cubs standing pat. Even with all of the moves he has made in the last several weeks he has kept his best chips. You never know.

  12. When you've got GMs like Hendry and Krivskey involved, it might. Our GM just said last week that he'd look to see how the offense does the upcoming week to see if we need to add a bat or not. I wouldn't put it past Hendry to bring up Murton to showcase him for a couple days. While he could be showcasing him, I wouldn't put much stock in anything a GM says publicly at this time of year.
  13. I guess I'd have to look more closely, but off-hand he is responsible for bringing in Garcia (now with Phils - so add-on Gavin Floyd and whoever else they received), Vazquez, Thome, Iguichi, Podsednik, Dye and a multitude of bench players and relievers. I am sure there are more. He also allowed Thomas, Ordonez, and Lee to go, all with a great deal of acrimony if I recall correctly. Did he draft Crede? Jenks? McCarthy? Anderson?
  14. I cannot believe Hendry will stand still. Remember that he can still make deals within the NL after July 31 w/out first having to pass the aquisition through waivers.
  15. Williams has always been a classless blowhard, but now he is exposing himself as a poor evaluator as well.
  16. I'd say that bridge is burned, ship has sailed....choose your own cliche.
  17. Decided not to trade is typically code for waiting for the last minute offers to fly in just before the deadline. Cincy without any major moves is destined to maintain their level of mediocrity. I think Cinci is slowly becoming the worst run team in baseball. Even taking my post above into consideration I don' tknow where you are getting the slowly from... I was trying not to be dramatic, but your point is well taken. How they have not been able to win with as much everday player talent as they have/ had is beyond me.
  18. Payton is not in his walk year first of all-he also has another year left on his contract. Payton has had 0 seasons in the last 4 over a 95 OPS+, Jones has had 2. Jones has the better chance to rebound to be something pretty good, while Payton is simply an expensive bench player at this point. If you look at 08 (when Floyd will almost certainly not be re-signed) who would you rather have as the 4th OF? I don't think it's a terrible deal for the Cubs, but it's not a good deal either. Is everyone just ignoring my second edit? Are we expected to just keep going back to re-read your posts because you decide to edit them over and over again? Yes.

  21. Payton's not in his walk year. Nor does he get on base at a decent clip. His career OBP against lefties isn't even .350. Check my edits. He's not in his walk year. He's signed through 2008. Once again, check my edits.
  22. Nothing personal, but that would have been a horrendous move. it would be a something for nothing deal But it assumes that the Cubs wil not give Soto a shot. How do we know that? Just b/c they acquired Kendall for almost nothing and in all likelihood will allow him to walk after this year? that's what he said, he's operating under that assumption. whether or not they actually give him a shot is another thing altogether I understand that, but my point is that his assumption is flawed.

  25. I'd love that deal. At least Payton can get on base at a decent clip without first making you suffer through an 0 for 25 streak. Plus, Payton is in his walk year and Jones still has a yr on his contract. Explain to me why this would be a bad deal for us. EDIT: And by "get on base at a decent clip" I mean against left-handers. CRAP!!! EDIT NO. 2: Payton also has a yr left on his K. He's still a better player than Jones, though.
