  1. Jones to CO might make sense. Do they have anything of interest?
  2. Leave ARod alone. Who cares what he does on his own time. If the press followed the personal lives of every player the way they do ARod the ML divorce rate would be far higher and we would associate cheating with MLB the way we associate crime with NFL (at least recently).
  3. Not-so-bold prediction: Cubs will be 4.5 back come Thursday morning and we'll all be back to wondering what Hendry can do to insure the team gets better so they can win the division. Trammel for manager, if for no other reason than Soriano appears to love him.
  4. I agree he looks like a AAAA player, but man if he could just put that .400 OBP up in the majors with that speed...
  5. OK, point taken. And what is/was Lugo's arrest history? We did not know and do not know. It stands to reason that the Astros would not have cut him as quickly as they did (within 48-72 hours, IIRC) had he not had some sort of history of that type of behavior. My point is that the worm seems to have turned here a bit.
  6. How sure are we that he did this? I recall a few seasons ago that Julio Lugo was released by the Stros after having been arrested for beating up his wife. He was accused, not convicted, and she later recanted her story. My opinion was that he wasn't worth going after b/c of what he had allegedly did, and I was savaged by many on this bd. Now it seems many feel the same about Dukes as I did about Lugo. Why is Dukes different?
  7. Did he really? The Yanks would have to be nuts to do that deal.
  8. I don't see how this deal would benefit either team. The Yanks would free up payroll insomuch as Dye is an FA after this year, but to what end? This year's FA class is pretty weak, no?
  9. I agree with Vance. Olney may have something here. I defended Lou early on, but I think some of his most recent histrionics are over the top. That said, if this is really getting to the players so much that they are giving up or driven to distraction, they need to take a real good look in the mirror.
  10. I read on ESPN.com that texeria will very likely be traded this year. Would you do Z and Murton for Texeria and a pitching prospect? Just thinking aloud.
  11. Wow. We have a member named "The Troll"?
  12. There's a potential flip-side to all of this - the quicker he accrues service time, the quicker he can go free and the Cubs can stop worrying about his med bills without pissing off the fanbase by releasing him. Not saying I agree, just saying.
  13. I voted for Hundley. Easy choice, IMO, though I give honorable mention to Kent Merker for attacking Stone and Caray on a charter flight in 04' b/c they were mean to him and his teammates on the air. Get the waaaaahhhhhh mobile please. And I have me battle gear ready.
  14. I don't have any problem with Lou ripping this team as a whole. They stink and deserve to be told that they do. Calling out individuals is probably not a good idea in this or any case, but I don't blame him for being frustrated.
  15. Hey, good news! Everyone actually wants to win!
  16. I'm all for a fire sale, but if you trade all of those guys (the only one I can understand is Zambrano), then you're guaranteed of not winning anything for at least the next 10 years. And they say I'm prone to hyperbole... Glad to see you have a sense of humor about it. Good for you. Wish I had a sense of humor about how the Cubs are playing.
  17. I don't know about you, but I've lost my appetite for his hard throwing walkathon pitchers. I'd rather employ guys who can find guys who don't issue free passes at will. Agreed, but I don't know that to be Hendry's fault. It could have to with the coaching these guys receive as they make their way up the system.
  18. Of course you would. That's why it's no enough for Kobe, I strongly suspect. Agreed.
  19. How would Gordon, Nocioni and a pick work financially, unless they signed both to massive contracts then traded them. Not so massive contracts. Gordon at $10M a year, Noc at $7M per and the number 9 pick's salary would match up great. I'd do that deal in a millisecond, and throw in a future no. 1 to boot. If the Lakers do agree to that and pick Hawes at No. 9, they have: Gordon Odom Noc Bynum Hawes Walton Whoever they pick with their own no. 1 Not a terrible start, especially of they use their own no. 1 to get a PG (Javaris Crittenton), something they desperately need.
  20. Fire Hendry, and ask him to to take Eyre and Howry with him please. Kidding aside, rather than fire Hendry I would offer him a position in the scouting dept. solely with respect to uncovering pitching talent. If he does not want that he can go somewhere else.
  21. From Olney's blog at ESPN.com:
  22. No - we need a MIFer or corner OFer who can hit. In one of my fantasy worlds, we deal off Jones and Izturis, make Floyd a backup, and make DeRosa the super-sub. We call up Pie to play CF, and start Theriot and Barrett in the MIF.
  23. Wait, what's the reason? Lengthen the productive years of his career for one. I understand that reason. But you said "this is another reason" and I don't know what you were referring to. What does Blanco becoming Z's personal catcher have to do with Barrett changing positions? If he can play 2B or RF then we don't necessarily have to lose his bat in the lineup on days when Blanco is behind the plate. That is, until they convert him full-time.
  24. Michael's last three years: His nos. certainly are trending up. He's not far from 20 HRs. His slugging was higher last year than the no. I would expect. His OBP was nearly equivalent. His BA was higher. If he's at 2B or RF he's facing less physical strain. I don't see why my argument is so far fetched.
