  1. Nope, he got sent down. Rusch is in line again. That's great for Iowa, they're only 4 back in the loss column to Nashville, with Hill back they may have a shot at the playoffs.
  2. So is Rich "if he bats, I will walk him" Hill up next?
  3. Prior who?
  4. Only 4 BB by Cubs pitchers today? What's up with that? Any guesses on Dusty' excuses for yet another pathetic attempt at Baseball by the Cubs?
  5. How about OBP among all players that have started every game in the season? I dunno about that - it would be hard to check on since different teams have played different numbers of games thus far, but I can tell you this: Pierre's OBP in the leadoff spot is the worst among qualified batters in MLB. Cedeno's OBP in the #2 spot is second worst among batters with 75 AB or more at that position in the order. Our OBP in the 1 and 2 spots in the order is actually worse so far this year than it was in 2005, when we had that fabulous 1-2 punch of Patterson and Perez. hilarious. But, but, but we haven't been dealing with a full deck, it's the injuries!!
  6. Two baserunners in one inning? I didn't think that was possible, I thought it was against the rules.
  7. But does he catch the ball? How fast is he? Can he sac bunt a runner from first to second? Can he play multiple positions in the infield? Is he a switch hitter? Those are the things Cubs look for. But, it appears that he can play Baseball which, is something the Cubs don't look for...
  8. Not having been on the basepaths in such a long time, I think he got lost between 1st and 2nd.
  9. I personally go back to 2002 where we didn't dump Alou to make room for Vlad. Same thing (as you say) in 2003 with Tejada and in 2004 with Beltran. They have done that sort of thing for years. The last time they bit their lip and signed the best and most predictably proficient FA on the mkt was Dawson in freakin' 87'. Recently could have had indisputable upgrades like Guerrero, Tejada, Hampton (he was really good back then but lost it at Coors), Thome, to name a few. EDIT: Instead ofthose guys, we get people like Kal Daniels, Danny Jackson, HRod, Dave Smith, Goose Gossage at age 42, Jacque, Luis Gonzalez (pre HR outburst; I won't speculate as to the cause), Blauser...the freakin list goes on and on. Danny Jackson - I think he managed to pitch only one 3 up, 3 down inning as a Cub.
  10. Expecting anything out of Prior and Wood beyond an extended stay on the DL qualifies as an "I told you so".
  11. What's the address? Went to the official Cubs site, used the Help/Contact Us link to navigate to a Help page, clicked Other. Saw an About the Game-Baseball Basics link-maybe Dusty could use Carlos' laptop during the game to study this page.
  12. But, he's (Pierre) such a hard worker, misquoted or not to him, Baseball will never be just a game.
  13. The mistakes are so glaringly obvious to everyone but the people in charge. One has to wonder if Hendry really does know anything about winning Baseball.
  14. I did too, I never imagined he'd be worse than Patterson was in the leadoff spot.
  15. Along the lines of Pierre working out: Since Hendry seems to apply the flavor of the year approach what if the WS winning team this year has a high OBP and low BB's? Will that finally get him to address these problems?
  16. Well, Hendry ignored Pierre's atrocious 2005 and now it's biting the Cubs in the behind. It's hard to ignore .276/.326/.354. And he had an even worse OPS in 2002 with the Rockies. Pierre was anything but a sure bet. On the plus side, he's actually been good on the base paths. The ironic point is the .276/.326/.354 line would look pretty good right about now, too bad Pierre not even going sniff such numbers this season.
  17. Don't know if it'll get a look but, I just Emailed the Cubs: To Jim Hendry and the whole of Cubs management: Your refusal to acknowledge and address the dual problems of low OBP and high issuance of BB is beyond Baseball stupid. I'm certain many of us have attempted the same perhaps, a steady stream of such will finally get through to Hendry and Company...
  18. Only the Cubs, Pierre lifetime .350 OBP to .270 OBP, I'm convinced that if Pujols became a Cub tomorrow he'd end up hitting .280. Name another team in Baseball which has 9 of every 10 trades implode in such a manner.
  19. The relevant question is how many walks will the Cubs issue and draw today? Maddux is going today so, I'm going with the Cubs issuing 6 walks today. Maddux 1 over 6+ and the bullpen 5 in 2+. As for drawing walks - 2, 1 for Walker and 1 for Murton.
  20. I'm still trying to figure out why someone like Hill with two pitches and absolutely no control was "untouchable" last offseason. Someday he may be an effective reliever, at the moment, he may more valuable to the Iowa Cubs than the Chicago Cubs.
  21. Do you really think we have a chance to score more than 4 runs today with our lineup? If anyone on the Cubs had an active brain cell they would note that Maddux, one of the greatest control ptichers of all time, has walked 3 men in 3 IP, and figure out it might be a good idea to take some pitches.
  22. Can someone please inform the Cub hitters that this Ump's strike zone is the size of Pierre' OBP? And, if they TAKE some pitches they'll get some baserunners - you know, what runs come from...
  23. Buerhle lives and dies on the corners and low in the strike zone as well, if he's forced to get his pitches up, he's little more than a BP pitcher. That's presuming the Cubs take pitches. Highly doubtful. Well, a professional MLB team would take advantage of this situation of course, we know the Cubs are far from such a team.
