  1. The most frustrating aspect of his success vs. the Cubs is its same MO, inside for show, outside for the out. As a matter of fact, that's been the MO for every LHP the Cubs have faced this season, what exactly does Gene Clines do?
  2. I'm calling for the classic the ball's just not finding holes us like it did for the Brewers today line of excuses from Baker today.
  3. The unforuntately aspect of this lost season is we'll never find out if Murton, Cedeno, Hill, et al are going to effective Major League players or not. With Baker at the helm we're going to see lineups with the likes of Nevin, Perez and Mabry in them, it won't end until Baker is replaced.
  4. Its now or never for Hill, this season is the perfect opprotunity to find out if Rich Hill is an effective Major League Starter or not. He's got absolutely nothing to prove in Minor League Ball, he's 26, time for him to be given the chance to put up or shut up.
  5. Last night I attended the Astros-Tigers game (Clemens was far from dominating however, he pitched well, allowing 2ER over 6+ IP to a very good Tigers lineup) and something Leyland did exhibited the vast difference between a Manager of his style vs. Baker' style. So here’s the situation, bottom 6th Craig Monroe facing Dan Wheeler with two Clemens' base runners. Monroe crushes one, off the bat it looks like a 3 HR apparently, Monroe thought so to for, he paused at the plate, momentarily admiring it. Turns out the ball hit just below the yellow line at the top of the LF wall and Monroe legs out a two run double. Top of the next inning, in Monroe's place, there's a new LF'er, I believe this is an example of Leyland holding the players accountable for their actions. As a result, this Tiger team has played very well, no missed count-off men, getting doubled-off on fly balls, etc. leading to the best record in Baseball. Baker, on the other hand, would make some creative excuse for Monroe' play rather than hold him accountable for his actions. It’s no coincidence the Cubs are 20 games under .500 and stinking while, the Tigers are 28 games over .500 and rising.
  6. Why stop with injuries and suspensions? The Excuse Master has found other resources to use such as the "lite air" in Arizona...
  7. I'm not rooting for the Cubs to lose but, I'm for whatever it takes to facilitate change. Beginning with the removal of the Idiot's Idiot Dusty Baker, if losing a few more series is necessary for this to happen, so be it. However, I'm concerned about what's going to happen after Baker, can Hendry be trusted to make the correct choices or hirings?
  8. Yet another example of what a poor Manager Dusty is, rather than standup, take the blame and admit what a terrible job he's done. Dusty chooses the gutless and cowardly tactic of blaming the young players and basically, everyone else who has played for the Cubs this season. No wonder they're playing like they've quit, they're not good enough anyway, Dusty' so much as told him so with all of his "I want my team back, etc." garbage. Despite my immense dislike of everything Cardinal, I've not read of LaRussa blaming they're current 6 game losing streak on Pujols' just returning from the DL or anything of the sort. Bottom line - Dusty and his whole pathetic excuse for a Coaching staff has to go, yesterday couldn't have been soon enough.
  9. We don't need to let him go; we just have to have other options if he continues to have injury problems in the future. If we can re-sign him to a low salary plus incentives deal, we should. I believe that's a good option, its a win, win situation, if he doesn't pan out, a large sum of money would not have been lost. If does regain his form, that's a bonus as well. However, if resigned I would still go about the building of the staff as if Wood was going to be a non-factor, the same applies to Prior (until he proves he can begin a season of the Active roster).
  10. I believe the applicable Dusty-ism was Guzman' longest start was only four innings.
  11. That, to me, is the most important question. Whenever I see/hear/read about Hendry or Baker being interviewed, I never see anyone back up an assertation with a statistical fact. I always hear too much deference and use of baseball cliches like "Clutch". I want to see someone point out the disparity in runs scored and hits for the Cubs since 2004. I want to see someone trot out Remlinger's R/L splits, or Neifi's statistical crapiness, or Rusch's anything. I want to see somebody use numbers to put Hendry in a position to justify his crap moves since 2004. I agree. This is one of those, "What the hell is going on???" moments for me. When someone get's the answer, "We lack in the clutch hitting department." Why doesn't someone say, "That's not true at all. The fact is you have far fewer baserunners than anyone else in the entire league. Here are the facts..." Why don't people say these things? Maybe it's because most writers know a lot less than Hendry? I think Bruce is in the minority. Or perhaps, most writers subscribe to the "good old boy network" (for lack of a better term) i.e., despite evidence to the contrary they'll refuse to ackownledge that for example, Neifi is a terrible Baseball player. Instead they find something, true or not, good to write or say about a player, manager, etc.
  12. How "clutch" is a fellow who rarely has base runners when he's up, compared to one who often has base runners during his at bats? It’s a function of opportunity, the more opportunities a hitter is afforded with base runners the greater his "clutch-ness". Once again, it boils down to fact that RS is directly proportional to the number of base runners. Why is something so simple apparently beyond the grasp of Hendry, et al?
  13. I have, save for last weekend, I started watching the Tigers. Perhaps, if Baker is removed, I'll start watching again...
  14. I don't remember the exact verbiage but, blaming the inept base running of Jacque Jones on the "light air" in Arizona is thus far, my favorite excuse this season.
  15. Wait, who says Wood has a stubborn attitude and questionable work ethic? wood has refused to change his delivery (which probably has alot to do with his inability to stay healthy) for several years now. i guess he made some progress on that front this year but it looks like too little too late. as far as his work ethic goes, that is an assumption on my part. he seems to have gotten out of shape the last few years and gained some weight. not every pitcher can be like clemens but he is way too young to be slacking off in the conditioning department imo. that's a pretty baseless and stupid assumption. God this sucks. I am uber depressed. I guess I will always have that game 7 HR against the Marlins to give me chills - "Kerry Wood plays longball" My favorite player ever on the Cubs, and his career with us will fizzle to an end.    I believe its more than just an end to his Cubs career, its an end to Baseball for Wood (as a pitcher).
  16. Reads good to me as well however, its got to start with a removal of Baker. Despite his claims to contrary, he's shown an unwillingness to let a young player play thru his struggles. Pie, Murton, Roit will all, at some point slump, upon which Baker will start pulling the crap he's currently doing with Murton. Pierre, who will "do his thing" gets start after start to bring his OBP up to .300 yet, Murton after a few bad weeks suddenly needs to be platooned because he struggling with RHP, simply amazing. I want last year's "patient OBP conscience Matt Murton" back. The guy who hit and got on base before Baker conveniently told him to be more aggressive. Watch him now and see how many first pitches he swings at. He hardly ever did that in the small sample we had of him last year. I do to but, I don't believe we'll see that version of Murton until Baker' gone. His knowing that playing time is limited and he's got to produce immediately surely must play a part in his recent willingness to swing at first pitches.

  18. I like the idea of going with Hill, Guzman and Murton for the remainder of the season but, in all honesty, Pie is receiving much better instruction at Iowa then he'd ever get from the likes of Clines, Matthews and Baker.
  19. I don't believe payroll is the problem, I believe the people who spent the money are the problem. Even with infinitely deep pockets, Hendry still would have not pursued, for example, a Brian Giles this last off season.
  20. hmmm....nah...Hendry isn't bold enough to do that.. "One NL manager" try 85 percent of the Chicago fans believes the Cubs window is closed. Oh boy.....Hendry is definately a dunce, right now. To me, the use of the words pressured and felt in reference to the need for a table setter at the top of the lineup suggests a lack of Baseball intelligence/knowledge. Hendry, on his own, couldn't recognize what high OBP at, amongst others, the leadoff spot can do for run scoring? Or how batting Patterson and Perez 1 and 2 were directly attributable to their run scoring draughts in 2005?
  21. Losing is one thing but, losing with the likes of Rusch, Perez, Mabry and Niven is extremely frustrating. I'd rather see Hill, Guzman and Murton play the remainder this lost season, let's finally see what they can do. Its now or never for Hill perhaps, Guzman as well.... Love the quote from Baker concerning why he didn't start Guzman last Friday: "The reason [Guzman] didn't start [Friday] was simply because his longest start was four innings," Funny, that's about the longest Rusch has lasted in a start...
  22. Whoa there, two batters, two outs? Ok who kidnapped Guzman? or, is that Marmol in his uniform?
  23. holy cow! A little variation is good, after all, those 4-3's get tend to get boring.
  24. And stranded I wish it were possible for the Cubs to begin every inning with a runner at third, just for experiment' sake. How many runs would they score?
  25. Ok, there's the free-bie, next inning BB, BB, BB,...
