Me to, its evidently clear of offense and pitching, offense is the weaker spot on the Cubs. Recent play aside, an upgrade is badly needed in one or all of RF,CF,SS or C. I can believe Hendry is foolish enough to let their recent play indicate no offensive upgrades are needed, I don't want to, but I can. Heck he talked himself to counting on Wood and Prior for the last three seasons...

About the Seattle rumor: I may be mistaken but, doesn't Griffey Jr. have a no-trade clause? And, didn't state something to the extent that he'd only approve trades to Atlanta or Chicago?

Best player, but not the best fit for the Cubs. Of Dunn and Griffey who is the better fit?

Assuming, for the moment, that all of Teixeria, Dunn and Griffey are available, I believe Teixeria should be priority 1 (maybe 2 and 3 as well) for Hendry. Wouldn't you think?

Can't recall the specifics but, haven't we seen this type of rumor before? That is, someone who's supposedly close to the family of a Cubs target hearing of pending trade, 2004 comes to mind, can't remember whom. -
I'd still take his .851 OPS away from home everyday in RF vs. Floyd, etc. in RF...

Wow, you can't possibly be serious. He looked very good at times during his callup last year. You consider a 5+ ERA and a 1.62 WHIP very good? He said at times. Mateo wasn't ready for the major leagues last year, but then again neither were any of the other starters (for example, look at the difference between Marshall this year and Marshall last year). He is 24 years old and has been pretty good at every level he's been at besides his callup to the majors. Either this year or next year, he probably will be ready to contribute to a major league team as either a back of the rotation starter or a good bullpen pitcher. Which won't be enough to net Dye in this case...even packaged with Murton. Why wouldn't Murton be enough? Dye' coming off the DL, his production is down, he's potentially a 2+ month rental, just what does Williams think he's going to get? -
You're forgettin jimbos dumnbess If Hendry can't see the Cubs are still a bat short he's dumber than we think. And by bat, I mean big bat i.e., Dunn, Griffey or Teixeira, etc. not, Matt Stairs - he'd still be good option for bench though.

Was checking out The Sporting News training camp issue, there's a small Thomas Jones piece in which he fires some shots at the Bears. Including this humorus note - "...they (the Jets) have so many great (offensive) players here..." - really? Who are they? I believe the addition of Olsen is going to enable Benson to dwarf whatever Jones and those plethora of great players give the Jets.

I love it. I don't like their points about how the Cubs cannot keep playing this well. First of all, they won't play 19-5 ball the rest of the season, but the Brewers and Padres will not play this hot as well. Second of all, we are winning with opponent miscues and unexpected pitching performances, but we are also winning short handed. Considering Lee is suspended, our closer Dempster just got off the DL, Floyd has been on and off hurt so often that we have no idea whether he's healthy or not, Wood might be coming back soon to improve our pen, Ward is now on the DL, etc etc etc, we should be improved even more. It's just a testament to the will of this team that we are able to stay afloat with all of this going on. Maybe, I'm way off but, don't good teams usually capitalize on opponent miscues?

I love it. tune in later as we make the same comments about the brewers game! :lol: I hear ya, I remember making similar comments earlier in the season when Counsell and Graffanino got big hits. At least you got a good hitter like Aram doing the damage and not journey man flotsam and jetsom such as Counsell and Graffanino.

If Aram keeps this up we're going to start hearing MVP possibilities.

He has an intentional walk and a hit by pitch. That's literally it. I known he's veteran with a lot of mileage but, if regression to the mean counts for anything he'll have hot streak soon.
